I don't think I remember a skater going into a layback spin like the first girl. I really liked it, obviously it needs more speed and a better possition, and needed to held longer, but it was really a cool spin. who was this girl?

That was the only one i really liked-the others not so much. They all looked the same and I am so tired of all the catchfoot anythings! Wibble-wobbles. I can't believe the scores for them.

I'm getting the hang of the levels in the spins. It's basically like every position that's held for 3 revolutions equals a level; and then I think to get the level 4 you have hold one position for 8 revolutions if I'm not mistaken.
Now if you want to see an interesting spin, check this out. It's a video from 1993 of this skater named Nathalie Krieg. She's an awesome spinner; right up there with Lucinda Ruh. Go to the 1:57 mark of the vid and check out her variation of the Biellman spin. Someone should try to incorporate that into skating today. If I was a skater, that's what I'd do. Go back and watch some videos to try to find some cool things that people used to do that aren't being done right now...vintage moves!

The Nathalie Krieg spin is awesome! Caroline Z did something similar in this video at the 3:00 mark: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RMJNkPfzc-0. Both of them are amazing and such GREAT variations!

Entering a spin in a backspin is a feature that can raise the spin level in IJS. It's especially hard to do with a layback position, which is why we almost never see it in the solo layback spin. Suguri's the only skater I can think of offhand who has done it. I've seen a few skaters do laybacks in the backspin part of their combination spins, but even that is pretty rare. And much harder to get both the turned-out attitude position and the upper back arch at the same time in the backspin. But it's a good way to be creative in earning levels without having to go for the Biellmann position. |
