Hi Vin, I'm not Amar, obviously, but I know that picture was taken during practice at the recent Marshalls' event. I'm not really sure it was a skid, but if you recall, toward the end of the program Michelle held that postition while gliding back to the middle of the ice, and around in a circle there. It was gorgeous!

Those who were there for the practice session at Marshalls-did Michelle do the arm hold as was shown in the picture, or did she start with the Y-catch (as done in the competition shown on TV) and switch to the opposite hand hold like the picture from the practice session? I seem to recall reading sources saying she was doing a COE in a Y-split, but maybe I am totally off...

I'm not sure how to post the picture-but doesn't it look like she has the capability of doing the I-Spin? Her extension is just as good as Sasha's-I'm sure it's much different trying to do it in a spin rather then a spiral sequence. Can someone tell me how to post it?

You mean like this:

http://www.usfigureskating.org/conte...-extension.jpg

All you have to do to post a link is highlight the link, copy and paste to the post. I have NO idea how to post an actual picture, though! I think you have to go to your member set up...

Anyway, I'm sure if Michelle HAD to do an I-spin for whatever reason, she would be capable of doing it as a side-catch (much like this position as a spiral). Her Y-spin is generally pretty well-done, fast and centered. I have no idea if she doesn't try an I-spin like this because it would be harder on her hip/back, or if she just doesn't want to include it in her programs.

I check her bio on USFS about every day to see if they've posted her music yet. She has to have told them if they are going to print it in the program book.

We'll know soon what specifically is MK's Rach piece for her LP, can't wait I have a feeling she'll confound expectations by skating her heart and feet out (i.e. landing all jumps cleanly) to a Rach piece a la Fumie at the JPN Nationals (but of course there is no comparison). Personally, the last time she skated with abandon with the most impact at Nationals was 2004 Tosca (minimal choreography but the technical content was there). imagine a new-look Michelle with "new" CoP-friendly technical and choreographic elements
That was recently at the Marshalls competition (more like an exhibition). That was one of her practices.

IMO, Michelle should be scoring very high on all of her GOE's because her overall skating technique is so good. My question is: Is there a deduction for a combination spin that is done well, but at a speed that would be considerered "as" fast? How would that be done without comparing speed to other skaters? Maybe in the COP for dummies, there is a "speed" factor for spins. Armchair, what sayest thou?

I assume you meant a combo spin considered *not as* fast?

Higher spin speed would positively influence the GOE, all else equal. So a slower spin wouldn't merit a deduction per se, just not as high of a GOE as the same spin done faster.

Default What if????

What if she changed her mind, ditched Rach, and has brought back Salome?

Just kidding. I don't really suppose she'd do that, but it just crossed my mind this morning that I'd loved to see what a grown up Michelle could do with Salome.

Just a fleeting dream but I'd love it if she did Romanza as her Lp. Michelle soars with Spanish music.

I'm listening to the Adagio from Rach's Symphony No. 2 online right now, and the climax gave me chills. Oh man, be still my beating heart...if it's Rach, and it's Symphony No. 2 (ok, if it's any Rach) I will be one happy camper! Rachmaninov is such a perfect Olympic composer -- almost all his works are sweeping and triumphant. I just see it on Olympic ice.

The wait is almost over!

From someone I know in St. Louis who has seen an advance copy of the 2006 Nationals program book, Michelle's free skate music is published in there as... Prelude in C Sharp Minor, Op. 3, No. 2 by Rachmaninoff.

Ooooohhhhh!

*off to find newest MK Rach selection...*

Edited to add: I think I found a page that has this music:
http://www.classiccat.net/rachmaninov_s/allmp3.htm

It's the second thing listed, under "Morceaux de fantaisie, Opus 3".

All I can say is WOW. This music is wonderful.

Added another website (this is a better cut, I think):
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...=glance&n=5174

Oh, Rach #2, Oh I am sure its LOVELY! Probably even better than her Rach # 3 SP. I wish I could see it.

Oooooh - that's "BIG" music! Now I have to try to get used to it because I've been dreaming of Isle of the Dead....

It's a demanding piece....

I have just read in todays paper that MK wont be competing at the Nationals due to a Groin Pull (ouch). She is however petetioning to compete at the Olympics. Any one else heard similiar? The groin pull is a totally separate injury from the Hip tear. I'm beginning to feel that "someone" is trying to tell her to turn Pro. I'd love for her to get the ONLY gold medal she hasn't won. . Olympic.
But I'm afraid she will push herself too hard and do more damage. Anyone else heard anymore on this. . im kinda in the dark

Oh. My. Gosh. I learned to play this piece on the piano after the Nagano Olympics and always wanted Michelle to skate to it for an Olympic season because I thought it would be perfect for her. This is amazing.

Thanks Sylvia! I'm thinking there's probably more to her program than just this friggin' fabulous Prelude, b/c it's under 4 mins in length. I would LOVE it if she combined it with a concerto or symphony.

Anyway, since I'm assuming this is probably still a spoiler, I'll post my recording of Prelude in C Sharp Minor, Op. 3, No. 2 here:

http://s52.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=3...92BFF33RTEYX4X

Enjoy!

(Oh, and BTW, this Prelude is in no way related to Rachmaninov's famous Concerto No. 2 But it's still beautiful!)
