Great picture and very interesting article. It really gets you geared-up for her.

I had no idea that she took Nagano so hard, she tried to be so up-beat in the press.

    Awwwww...

Well, of course she was crushed. But Nagano was nothing to be ashamed of.

I'll definitely look for the article. Thanks for the notice.

What does the photo look like? What is Michelle wearing? Is it a skating photo or one taken for the magazine?

Not skating, taken for the article.

MrBG's comment was "She's thinking ahead to what she's gonna do after she stops skating.".

She's wearing a deep blue top (jewel tone), raw silk perhaps, that's kinda a haulter top. She's wearing dangling gold earrings kinda Indian style, and she wearing several gold necklaces similar to the earrings, Indianish. Hair is down. She has her hands akimbo.

There is a graffitti filled park in the background.

    It's edgy.

It's very close up and cropped.

Default Elle Magazine Interview (Feb 2006)

You guys have to get a copy ASAP. I should've bought one but I read through it anyway. It was so interesting! (and reassuring). Here are some highlights:

    1. Tatiana Tarasova was very strict with Michelle; coreographically-speaking, TT made sure that there was no more "girl" in Michelle, only pure womanly sophistication. Apparently, TT was very concerned that the international judges need to view Michelle as the "sophisticated" skater (sans the lyrical aspect to her skating). For example, with Totentanz, Michelle was coreographed to skate as if she were "clubbing" and having the night of her life, hence the use of techno music. According to Michelle, she is JLo on the ice.

    2. Because of the musical pieces, Vera Wang's designs had to be "extreme" and "severe", maybe bordering avant-garde.

    3. International experts were flown in to make sure that Michelle was skating to the most technical programs among the ladies (including Irina S's.), so much so that Michelle "does not need a triple-triple".

    4. There might be more truth to the rumor that Michelle is dating an Abercrombie model. (hahaha)

    5. Michelle, if given the chance, will most likely skate her last program at the Olympics.

Wow. Um, last program at the Olympics.....no worlds, abrocrombie model, and strict coreographer. Wow.
It breaks your heart. It is designed to break your heart. The game begins in the spring, when everything else begins again, and it blossoms in the summer, filling the afternoons and evenings, and then as soon as the chill rains come, it stops and leaves you to face the fall alone. Oh man, I desperately want to see Michelle skate her programs this season. I hope Michelle can stay healthy.

Neato. I'm going to have to get this article. Sounds like TT has done some good things for Michelle, and sounds like Michelle is happy with them. Thanks Totentanz!

This definitely is a must read article, because it gives you insight into Michelle the person, and not just Michelle the skater. However, I didn't really see the points that Totentans brought up.

For example, the article said that Michelle won't comment on who the guy was that she showed up to the MTV Awards with (the blonde guy with the sunglasses), I didn't see ANYTHING that referred to an Abercrombie model, or who Michelle is currently dating.

Also, Michelle mentioned J. Lo when she was talking about maybe trading in her Chevy Tahoe for a sports car. She said that when she was younger, she said she would buy a Lamborgini when she won Worlds, so she should have 5 Lamborginis by now . However, $250K is alot to spend on a car, but she wants to "bling bling" or "J. Lo" it for a little bit so that she could tell her grandkids that she did it at some point.

I did not read anything that said she wanted the Olympics to be her last program.

Anyway, definitely still a very good read.

The thing is, at times, one has to read between the lines. Michelle not commenting on the guy issue is neither a confirmation or denial. Maybe the guy was a close friend. I put the (hahaha) at the end because I remember there was a thread before that talked about Michelle dating an Abercrombie guy (and for sure that guy was blonde).

As for her last skate, if you read closely, she says that she has now definitely realized that there is life after skating, something which she had not known when she was 17. That's why she chose to train in the LA area so that she could be closer to her family and friends, and also so that she could have more of a nightlife (unlike in Lake Arrowhead where felt so secluded). She knows she has to enjoy her bacholorette years. She even said that she loves to go clubbing, and that she does not need much alcohol, if any, to start dancing on the dance floor. She loves Hip Hop music. She also said that at the end of the Games, she will finish her schooling and move on to other things. As of present, she has been doing rounds in the entertainment sector.

Anyway, another interesting note from the article: when Michelle is pumping her hands in the air during her SP, she is trying to say "this moment is mine; no one can take it away from me!"

Overall, Michelle came across as a completely changed individual. The mistake before was she put to much emphasis on the Olympics. According to Frank Carrol, he said that there was almost a mystical angle between Michelle and her Olympic dreams, that it was not normal. Now, Michelle is completely over it. She knows that there is more to life than the damned Olympics. She even knows that she is the utter underdog, and that for her, being there is a real gift in itself. This time around, she will treat the Olympics as if it were an "adventure" - a kind of place to explore. But sports psychologists believe that this year she will bring home the bacon because she is completely liberated from the lie. Her mood now is that of "attack".

The only slight contradiction I found in the article is when Michelle states in the beginning something along the lines of "I need to be extreme, severe, because I am behind." She seemed aggressive to get her gold medal. Whereas in the rest of the article, she seems to care less about the gold, and the Olympics overall.

Ahhh, I just love Michelle because... just because.
