    Default NCAA College Football Thread

Are any of youz interested in college football? I love it........ am a big longtime fan of the U of Alabama and SEC football in general.

I'm glad Texas moved up and Alabama moved back to 3rd just in time for their big game with LSU. Alabama can beat LSU but they need to get hungry again as they were earlier in the season. Perhaps a week off and a drop from 1st to 3rd has restored their "want to". Roll Tide!

Anyways, that's my 6 or 8 cents worth. I welcome your comments. Can anyone stop Tebow???

I LOVE MY TEXAS LONGHORNS. I am a longhorn thru and thru. Hook em Horns.!!!! Number 2 now, but soon to be number ONE!!. Colt McCoy ROCKS!! .I'm glad Texas moved up too. They won't be there for long. My family and I have a friend who is a played for Florida (# 1) so we joke around with each other a lot about football and the BCS rankings. I also like Texas A&M, and TECH. I am a fan of the Georgia Bulldogs because of their coach, Mark Rich is such a special person. He made a cameo in a movie that was put out by a church in ALbany Georgia, called Facing the Giants.

Since my Buckeyes are out of the chase for the big game, I'll pull for Alabama for you Mike! I'd like to see Cincy continue their great season, too.

I admit, though, that a McCoy-Tebow showdown would make a great title game, too (so long as Florida loses -- I am just bitter about them kicking our behinds in the BCS title game a couple years ago).

I like the way you think Nicole. I am all for Florida losing. Although we have a family friend who played for Florida many yrs ago and I am a Longhorn. We have fun together taking jabs at each other.

I am upset that we were kept out of the BCS title game last year because of our loss to Texas Tech. Our only loss last year I am not mistaken.

I don't like the way they choose who goes to the final game. I think they should have playoff games like they do in the Pros.

Agreed. A playoff would be a much fairer way to determine the national champ. There are rarely only two clear-cut teams that deserve a shot at the title.

    Hello Nicole and Rollll Tide!
The LSU game was a nerve racker! The SEC is the toughest conference........ but they are all tough.

I was also pulling heavily for Georgia Tech who barely survived Wake Forest today.

I wouldn't mind a Texas vs Alabama shootout for the Nats title. If Bama doesn't win the SEC title, I wouldn't mind a re-match with Utah. Alabama & Florida both still have tough conference games to play before they lock up in the Georgia Dome. Strange things could happen. Texas isn't a shoe-in for the title game either. They have Tex A&M and probably Nebraska in their own conference title match. It could even come down to Ga Tech vs "fill in the blank" for the big 1.

Thanks for the posts and letz keep this one alive. College football is almost as much fun as the US Nats.

I agree with everyone that there needs to be a college playoff to decide the National Championship. I'd like to see the top 8 teams battle it out. Heck I'd even settle for the top 4.

I think it will be the SEC Champion playing Texas. That match-up would make for a good game and hard to argue too much the National Champion.

You still have TCU, Boise State and Cinn as unbeatens. I think Cinn will lose either against West VA or Pitt. TCU still plays Utah which will be a tough game.

Someone mentioned GA Tech slipping in to the Big Game. I don't see that happening. They would give it to one of the unbeaten schools over Tech (TCU or Boise State).

I was hoping Navy made it in the top 25 after beating Notre Dame at their place.

The biggest drawback to a playoff system is that it would add at least one more game for the two teams who survived it. What I do believe is that the final NCAA top 10 teams should all get BCS bowl games.

My scenario for Ga Tech "going to the dance" would be if Tech wins out and there are losses/upsets amongst most if not all of the top 5. LSU won the 2007 Nats title with 2 losses. In reality, I think it will be 2 unbeaten teams going for it this time.

Yeah, I can go for that, as long as it is Texas and another team at the final dance. !!

Barring a huge meltdown, Georgia Tech is out of the BCS title match. They can, however, "win out" which would include beating Georgia and taking care of business in the ACC title match. Then a match in their big bowl game with one of these 3 teams......... TCU, Bosie St. or Cinncinati. Go for the highest ranked opponent.

I'm already seeing key bowl game matchups........ Texas vs Alabama in the Big 1. Ga Tech vs Boise in the Orange Bowl. Florida vs TCU in the Sugar Bowl. Okla.St vs Cinncinati in the Fiesta. Rose? Up for grabs. LSU vs Nebraska in the Cotton Bowl.

If you are fans of Boise, TCU and or Cincy, you have to hope Auburn, Fla St and Nebraska spoil it for the Big 12 and the Mighty SEC. Unlikely, but stranger thangs have happened.

Well, Nebraska's up 3-0 on Texas right now & the Blackshirt Defense is rolling, so Boise, TCU & Cincy fans are feeling kinda happy right now.

UHM, Not so fast there Moxie. Seriously, I don't think my Longhorns are going to pull this one out tonight. They are making tooo many mistakes. We are only ahead by one when we should be ahead bya couple of TD's IMO. I am so disappointed that Florida lost this afternoon. I was pulling for them to win.

what, he tripped at the one yard line .Good Grief Longhorns. Pull it together for goodness sakes.

    Veryhappy

WOW WOW WOW, We pulled it out literally at the last second. WOW. I thought Colt McCoy had let too much time run off the clock and we lost. WOW. I am shocked. I was screaming and clapping my hands so hard. I hit my finger on something and I think it's broken. I also scared my poor dog.!!!.

Congrats to the Nebrasks Cornhuskers for a very good game. You guys certainly played a fantastic game. I don't think the Longhonrs deserved to win this game at all. I think Colt McCoy must have thought there was more time on the clock. WOW, I am so happy and excited. Were off to Pasadena now to face Alabama. I guess now Mike, we will be rooting against each others team Jan. 7th huh. The Horns are going to have to get it together if they want to win the game though. Alabama played an outstanding game today. The Longhorns have some work to do to get ready.

Congratulations to your team Mike, BUT GO LONGHORNS.

Texas probably will be the #2 BCS Bowl/Title Match team, but I was frankly more impressed with Cincinnati.
Alabama saved the best game they have played since the 1993 Sugar bowl just for Tebow. A total butt beating. Number 1 Babeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!

Yes, Bama vs Texas for the title game. Florida vs Cincy in the Sugar. TCU also deserves consideration for the title match but will more likely face either Ga Tech in the Orange or Nebraska in the Fiesta.

I thought Mark Ingram made a good statement today for the Heisman. He followed a brilliant season with his very best against a great defense.

Bring on Texas! Bama tamed the big stallion today(tebow), surely they can handle a colt. I still vote for Cincy, but it will be Texas.

    Default BCS game

MIke, I wouldn't be counting out the Longhorns so quickly. True, they did not play their best game tonight by a longshot. They also didnt' go UNDEFEATED all season long by luck. They have their work cut out for them against Bama, but no team is unbeatable. If I am not mistaken, Florida was favored to win today.

It's not a done deal yet for Tx to head to Pasadena, but I think it is done deal for Colt not wiinning the Heismann now though with his performance tonight. 3 interceptions and 8 sacks. They are a much better team than the one who showed up tonight to play. I am so happy that they were able to come back and win though. I hope and pray that they are choen to got to the Title game. GO LONGHORNS!!!!!.

Yes, up until the last minute, when the defense made very silly penalties that made it too easy for Texas to get into FG position.

But it was a very good game & congrats!

I think the 'Horns are very happy they've got some time to recover
from the Blackshirts. None of their potential Bowl opponents has a
    guy on defense like Suh!!

I still hate this whole BCS system and think it's so unfair to the other unbeaten teams. We need a college playoff system.

Someone mentioned TCU playing possibly Nebraska in the Fiesta. Thats not going to happen. Nebraska lost to Texas and will not get invited to any BCS Bowl Games.

Here is how I see the possible BCS Bowls (Selections are made tonight):

    BCS Title Game
    Texas vs Alabama
    Winner: Bama

    Rose Bowl
    Ohio State vs Oregon
    Winner: Oregon

    Fiesta Bowl
    TCU vs Boise State
    Winner: TCU

    Orange Bowl
    Georgia Tech vs Iowa
    Winner: Georgia Tech

    Sugar Bowl
    Florida vs Cincinnati
    Winner: Florida

Your potential big bowl lineup mirrors the ESPN predictions. When I suggested Nebraska-Fiesta I had wrongly assumed that the Big 12 had an automatic slot in the Fiesta. Boise and TCU are way more deserving and it would be a fine match.I await the official pairing which airs on ESPN............i think......in about 15 minutes.
If any of the non-usual suspect conference unbeatens get the shaft I will be amongst the 1st to send an e-mail of protest.

My Ga Teck fanatic brother was jumping and hollering for joys late last night after GT finally subdued Clemson...... I called him and he answered the phone with a loud WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO........ GT and Iowa would also be a cool match.......I'd prefer GT vs LSU but let's not get greedy SEC fan.

I am hearing rumours of Okie St vs Ole Miss in the Cotton. Booooooo! Why not Nebraska vs LSU, after all, Okie St is 9-3 with a season ending stomp from a stumbling Sooners team and Ole Miss was blasted in their final SEC contest by a not so hot Miss St.

No playoffs please! Be careful what you wish for. That could well do to NCAA div I football what CoPs have done for the USFS. Get too fancy-technical and complex and you could lose a lot of casual fans.

The BCS Bowls as well as the other Bowl Games have been annouced. There are some very good match-ups. While I think it's unfair that some undefeated teams are denied a shot at the title, I do believe that the two best teams are playing for the title. I'm looking forward to the TCU vs Boise State game as well.

Here is a link to all the Bowl Games to include the non BCS:
    http://collegefootball.rivals.com/co...sp?CID=1025450

Games that caught my eye and should be entertaining to watch:

    Capital One Bowl
    Penn State vs LSU

    Sun Bowl
    Oklahoma vs Standford

    Holiday Bowl
    Nebraska vs Arizona

Thanks for the bowl games link. How in the heck does Florida St get the Gator????? When there are far more deserving teams for this plum of a bowl. They are 6 and 6 with 4 conference losses as well as losses to all 3 of their in-state opponents. This is the bowl and CBS wanting Bobby Bowden regardless of record and the team's merits this season. Va Tech should have gotten the Gator.

I love the Penn St vs LSU match. I mostly like the bcs bowls lineup, but would rather see TCU and Boise facing Ga Tech and Iowa than each other. I'm glad the two unbeatens are getting an excellent bowl, but would rather see them get cracks at a couple of ACC and Big 11 powers. Cincy vs Florida is cool.

Alabama vs Texas is fair, imo, and will be a great game.
I hope Coach Saban can keep the Alabama players focused on hard work for a rather hard game. I know a lot about NCAA div I title matches and that in battles of 1 vs 2, 2 has often beaten 1. Alabama has never beaten Texas. I think they are like 0-7-1. I expect every player to be fully motivated. At their very best, they can do what the Bear's Bama teams never did. Beat Texas. So what if Texas was a bit lackluster vs Nebraska? Auburn almost whupped Bama just before Bama rode Tebow down.

Nebraska is my fave amongst the Big 12 teams. Cool to see them improving. I'd love it if the Cornhuskers and the Tide would schedule a couple of seasonal games.

Thumbsup Mark Ingram wins the Heisman

    http://www.huffingtonpost.com/.../ma..._n_390042.html

Mark Ingram showed plenty of class in his acceptance speech at the Heisman award show. He was humble and I don't think he expected to win. All of the finalists are great college players and fine young men. It is a first for an Alabama football player. I posted a link to a good article about Ingram and the Heisman. Now he and his team need to get ready and get after some fiesty Longhorns.

Mike, I don't know what is going on with my Longhorns now, but I think your team is going to take the title this year. I am not really ready to throw in the towel yet, but it is not looking good. Losing Colt so early is not helping.
IIRC, we were in this kind of jam the last time we took the title 4 yrs ago and came back to win so, maybe we will again. It is still doable but we have to pull it together NOW. Thevfirst couple of plays, I thought we were going to take this game easily. How things can change in an instant. lol

Come on LONGHORNS. You can do it. GO LONGHORNS.

Well, I was hoping they would be able to do it. Unfortunately. a young inexperienced QB has made some mistakes and Bama was able to capitalize on them. Congrats to Alabama on your victory. You deserve it. Congrats also to the Longhorns. they had an excellent season and have nothing to be ashamed of.

I am worried about Colt McCoy. He hurt his shoulder and said it is "dead". He wants to make it to the NFL. I hope this does not hinder his goals. I admire him so much for his faith. How is he speaks up about it. He waited 4 years to play this game but got injured in the beginning of the game instead. He stills gives God praise regardless. I admire him very very much.
