Glad to hear she is active in promoting worthy causes.
Another mention:
"The five-time world figure skating champion and two-time Olympics medalist will be part of the U.S. delegation for the opening ceremonies at the Special Olympics World Summer Games next month in Shanghai, China...."
Here is a very short article from the Seattle Times, 9/25/07:

"I still believe"-Michelle Kwan
"I want to be a legend..." - Michelle Kwan
Michelle, you ARE a legend.
That is wonderful. The Shrivers' commitment to the SO is inspiring. Michelle will have a great time.
I found this today when doing a search:
World Wrestling Entertainment issued the following press release this afternoon:
WWE Stars Open Sports Experience Center At Special Olympics World Summer Games In Shanghai
October 1, 2007 - Mick Foley and Torrie Wilson joined Special Olympics Chairman Timothy Shriver, Special Olympics Founder Eunice Kennedy Shriver, Coca Cola CEO Mutar Kent, and other celebrities, including Vanessa Williams, Michelle Kwan, Bianca Jagger, and Disney star Brenda Song, in opening the new Sports Experience Center on Monday, the day before the official start of the 2007 Special Olympics World Games in Shanghai.
WWE is among the sponsors of the new Sports Experience Center. The Center provides the Special Olympians at the Games the chance to meet celebrities and dignitaries to share a laugh, or have a game of table tennis, basketball, tennis or badminton, among other activities, providing a very special personal experience for all involved..
The rest of it decribes the WWE folks playing table tennis with Special Olympians from around the world! I hope Michelle got the chance to have some fun and play some with these great Olympians!!!
I came across a Chinese article on the workings behind yesterday's opening ceremony, and it carried a quote from Michelle. Article includes a non-recent picture of her at the 2005 Worlds.

Translation on the bit from Michelle,
Another photo of Michelle in Shanghai,Michelle Kwan, goodwill ambassador for the Special Olympics,
"I was in China early this year in my capacity as goodwill ambassador for the international Special Olympics committee, my goal was to engage in dialogue with youths, sharing with them some of my experiences from skating. I would like to tell all the Special Olympians that I believe that as long as you work hard towards your dreams, you can be successful."

Caption says 'Oct. 3rd, Special Olympics goodwill ambassador, figure skater Michelle Kwan cheering on the U.S. team in Shanghai. Kwan says she has always admired Yao Ming, it's just too bad she has yet to have the chance to meet him'.

refers to Michelle as former ice-skating star
She looks lovely; and judging by the microphone, is as "in-demand" there as she is here!
Hope Chnholly doesn't mind, but I thought I would link the MK pic she posted in the "Where's Michelle" thread here, since it relates to her trip.

Ohhh thanks for the vid. She is so happy.
She sure is "in-demand", as shown in another mention of Michelle in a Chinese article. No quote or photo this time, but it did mention how she was the most popular, highly-sought-after guest at a BBQ party held yesterday afternoon at the U.S. consulate in Shanghai. If Michelle was not pulled aside by the special olympians for a chat, she was dragged off for photo opportunities.

There are no MK pics in this link, nor mentions, but beautiful pics from the opening cermonies. If this is any clue as to what the Olympic ceremonies will look like in Beijing, it just makes me want to go to Beijing even more next year. Though, the Chinese always put on an incredible show, and I wanted to go knowing that it was going to be amazing. But this, this just shows me for sure, wow. Alas, no $$. What a treat it must have been for Michelle and others to see it.

The opening ceremonies are on TV right now, on ABC Family.
I just saw Arnold Schartzenegger march in -- no Michelle sighting yet.
Wing Nut #1
Ooh, I completely forgot it was going to be televised! Thanks for the reminder!
That act with the lady in the boat was just fantastic. The method of makeing the ocean waves was really effective.
I don't know how that stadium stacks up against others we have seen but it really looks huge as it must be since the people and chairs in the infield looke sooo tiny.

The video was a pleasure, in every way!
OMG I have chills! Michelle is incredible! She's just a natural for this type of thing. Watch out, Katie Couric! Here comes the Kween!
