    Heart

FYI-Using Google, I found this article that describes what one individual experienced. Of course, everybody is different, but it gives you an idea of some of the symptoms and amount of pain that can be involved.

    http://www.hss.edu/Newsroom/Sever-Hip-Pain

"For seven years, not a day went by that I didn’t feel that pain," Suzanne recalls. "It felt like something was catching in the joint -- a 10-second shot of pain that was almost immobilizing. It happened if I crossed my legs, got out of a car, sometimes seven to 10 times a day." Suzanne sought help from numerous physicians, trying everything from physical therapy to acupuncture and massage. The pain always came back. "Some doctors said it was in my head. I had almost given up hope of finding an answer," she said. Then she was referred to Dr. Buly. "Suzanne’s problem was similar to that of many of the patients who come to us," said Dr. Buly. "Most MRI’s don’t pick up a labral tear and it can go undiagnosed for years. As the joint deteriorates and the pain worsens, some people even end up with a hip replacement."
    Bless Michelle!

Torn labrum, Isn't that the same injury Tara was first treated for? In any case, it is good to finally know something. Mr Pru, it is good you realize we need to apologise, but, unfortunately, the person who gave us the news was not a regular member, but a visitor who was thoughtful enough to share some information with us that she thought might alleviate our state of not knowing and worrying---and was treated shabbily. So she probably will not see your apology, but it is nice you have offered it. Your mother might have been disppointed in your behavior, but at the same time she would be proud that you saw the error of your ways and might say (lol)---just don't let it happen again, son. We all need to be kinder to each other.

    Thanks, iceman.

Why do I have the feeling that my apology will be the only one?

I hope Michelle has a great year at Denver. A year off will give her plenty of time to figure out exactly what she wants to do. Here's to a full recovery Michelle!

I think this is best for her. Lets not forget this is only a sport, she is a human being and has life goals, and going to school is one of them and everyone should honor that. I am also pleased to hear she had surgery and all is going to be well and she will heal. Good for her!

I knew this was coming bu t am teary-eyed all over again. Nobody has made me shed more tears of sadness and tears of joy in any sport as MK has. I am glad she has kept her options open but the sport will not be the same for me if she is unable to compete in '07-08 for a long long time. She has done more for this sport than anyone who has preceeded her and certainly than those who will follow her. The up and coming skaters have some mighty big sh oes to fill both athletically and in kindness. I wish her all the best in whatever choices she continues to make and can't wait to see her in exhibitions. I am glad to know that she will fully recover from the surgery also.

Thank you so much for posting the link. I had suspected that she had already gotten surgery, thanks to graciesk8 and mmg for their information, among other MKF friends, and it's really nice to see this official confirmation. I wish the best for MK and get a nice 4.0 . And wow, poli sci and minor in international relations. I wonder if we'll see MK in politics as her second career. Oh, how fun to speculate.

    * hugs * to MK. The best for her recovery and I'm glad she'll have lots of friends around her to support her. Those exhibitions she will perform in - I can't wait!

I wish Michelle a wonderfull recovery. Best Luck to her in School. If her school work goes anything like her skating then I know for a fact she will bring home those A's. I hope in the future she can come back to competitive skating, I will definately miss watching her.

"In August, following the Champions on Ice tour, Kwan underwent elective arthroscopic surgery to repair a torn labrum in her right hip, an old injury which she sustained during the 2004-2005 season." (emphasis added)

IMO, Michelle is due some apologies from all the critics who assumed that her failure to make the podium at Worlds was due to an unwillingness to adjust to the new system (rather than a physical inability to do so)

It's good to hear that she will still consider returning to competitive skating next year. I hope she goes to Vancouver in 2010 and end her competitive career on the Olympic stage. She would not have to win to win everyone's hearts again. It would be an exit a la Agassi....It would be an unforgettable moment regardless of how she places.

I feel an incredinle sense of relief and joy. I needed for everything to be confirmed. This way I can find closure and learn to appriciate what she's given us the past decade+....I can also keep some hope alive, maybe I'll go to COI again this summer and see her. I wish her the best because I love her so much and she's my idol. I will still miss her skatign bt knowing she's ok and her hip will be fine feels so good!

    Good Luck Michelle, <3 YOU!
It breaks your heart. It is designed to break your heart. The game begins in the spring, when everything else begins again, and it blossoms in the summer, filling the afternoons and evenings, and then as soon as the chill rains come, it stops and leaves you to face the fall alone. It is a relief to know for sure about Michelle. I will miss her this skating season, of course, and I hope she feels better soon.

I had suspected that some medical intervention was underway; but was not going to add to the rampant speculation about it.

I am grateful for the confirmation, hopeful for her recovery, and happy that a world of possibilities - including skating, should she choose to, - awaits her.

Thank you for the confirmation. Heal fast, Michelle! We all love you. I really do hope to see her on the ice again (I would LOVE for it to be competitively...), but it's all up to her. I wish her a speedy recovery and a GREAT year!
