Perhaps Irina doesn't like American fans because they lie to her...but I digress.

Okay, just so I am clear, Sam, are you the man who handed Michelle the beautiful flowers (and got a hug) after the SP at 2003 Nationals that matched her The Feeling Begins dress? Are you also the man jumping up and down while looking to the right (left side of the TV screen) at the same (I think) competition???

    Thumbsup

Sam's efforts and obvious devotion to Michelle is precisely why he should have been voted Mr. MK Forum.

His Presidency should have no term limits.

No offense to my bud handlem9z (I was NOT stalking Shizuka in St. Louis!... ...) but Sam is THE man of this fine forum!!

TwinnerA: I'm not Sam, but I can assure you that, yes, he is the man who gave Michelle the lovely peach colored roses after the SP -- but I think that it was at 2003 Worlds (not Nationals) in Washington, DC.

Sam: Thanks for the wonderful report -- and I'm happy that you had such a wonderful encounter with Michelle. You surely deserve the kiss. Good job!

Wow! What a lucky, lucky guy! No...I take that back. To say you were "lucky" would imply that you weren't deserving, but rather the whole thing was chance. You deserved it! Congratulations!

    Default Michelle in Kansas City

Hi. I am a new poster and actually just found this site after doing a search regarding her trip to Kansas City. I was also at the ballgame on Monday in Kansas City. My family is big into sports and we were planning on going to the game either on Monday or Tues. night. When we heard that the skaters were going to be there on Monday, we decided to go then. My mom is a big skating fan...my brother and I had taken her to St Louis for the US Trials in Jan. We were hoping to see Michelle there of course and were very disappointed when she couldn't make it.

I've also got some pictures to share but am unsure how to really post them. The event was pretty interesting. We saw the fellow with the roses. My mom was in line for the autograph session about an hour and a half ahead of time. My dad relieved her from the line duty so she could go into the stadium to watch them on the field. She didn't know that there were going to be several other skaters. It was kind of fun for us to try to figure out who all of the skaters were. I know the biggest names but some of them I did not know.

Tanith and Evan played catch for awhile and neither looked like they had done much of that before. At some point, Michelle took the glove from Tanith and attempted to play catch with Evan. She was unable to catch it and looked very awkward trying. I commented to my brother that you would never know these were world class athletes from watching them play catch. The other thing that stood out was how small they were...particularly the guys. Some of the girls had heels on and that made them seem taller. I suppose that's no big surprise but for someone that hasn't been around before it stood out. Tanith and Evan were both wearing Jeremy Affelt Royals t-shirts. I really liked that. Tanith had tennis shoes on and Evan was wearing a Royals hat. Tanith is really, really pretty! I can't emphasize this enough.

Michelle was wearing a green dress. She was more dressed up than most of the other skaters. Her hair is very long! I would say it went almost all the way down her back. Not quite, 'butt length' but easily the longest I've ever seen her wear it. At first, from a distance I wasn't sure if it was Michelle because her hair seemed too long. I forgot, there was a rumor going around, that came from the Royals security, that Michelle might not be signing. This caused quite the controversy in line.

After the opening pitch fesitivies, my mother, brother and I went back in line. By this time there were finally several other people there including many young girls. A few people had brought nice items for the skaters to sign but most, like us, had basically nothing. There was a lot of discussion about whether they would have anything to sign and give to us. It felt like it took the skaters a long time to get in position. And all during this time there was speculation on whether Michelle would really be signing and how mad everyone was going to be if she didn't. As the third inning started, the skaters made their way to the area set up for the signing. Michelle was last and was stopped by Metro sports to do a brief interview. There were two lines formed on opposite sides of a walkway. Nearly everyone was in line for the one that was supposed to have Michelle in it. They also had a sign up indicating that Fujikawa would be signing but I knew I hadn't seen her out on the field. There were several other names I did not recognize. I think there were a total of 6 skaters at the table with Michelle. They had three tables. Michelle's was set-up for last with Fujikawa beside her and Irina on the other end. When Irina got to the table, she took her placard and chair and moved it to the end of the table that Plushenko was signing at. I think she also hugged him or made some sign of affection. When Michelle followed in a couple of minutes, after finishing the interview, she saw the Fujikawa placard and quickly turned it over, so that confirmed that she wasn't going to be there. It did leave Michelle at a table by herself.

(I'm out of time right now but will post the 2nd half of my story hopefully with pictures to share tomorrow...if anyone is interested--also I might need some help on how to include them though or the best way to include them).

    Thanks

Thanks for sharing you're experience, I'm looking forward to part two and the photos. Shizuka, is spelled like that. Hard name to spell, I had to memorize her name in order to spell it right.

Thanks for the report. Regarding this:

I'd like to see Barry Bonds lace up and attempt a triple lutz. If he did that, I can imagine me saying, "You'd never know he was a world class athlete from watching him try to skate." As a participant and student of both sports, I find it infinitely easier to play catch than to land a single jump on ice. jmho...lol...

I figured when I wrote that bit describing their game of catch that someone would take offense. I didn't really mean it to come across as hateful. But it is true that many everyday people could play a game of catch and look competent doing it and at the same time, most of the same people couldn't skate a lap around an ice rink w/o falling, let alone try any sort of jump on ice. I guess it just shows what a different skill set figure skating takes compared to something like baseball. I just thought it was interesting....

One other thing I forgot to relate, when Tanith threw out the first pitch of the game, she actually went out on top of the pitcher's mound to throw it. Usually they have them stand at the base of the mound or in front of it. But she went to the very top. If you've not ever noticed the mound is REALLY a mound, you're up pretty high compared to the rest of the field. I liked it though. You could tell she was a little intimidated by the long throw, because they had been throwing from 20 feet apart maybe and this was 66 feet. At any rate, she threw it high and wide of the mark and it was over Evan's head. It wasn't a good throw but I've seen worse. It was better than throwing it short and having it bounce up there. I'll be back tonight witht the pictures and the rest but I just wanted to chime in this morning about that part of it.

Ok so what's happened to Sam? Sam have you fallen into a deep coma? If we don't here from him soon someone may have to go make sure he's survived the experience and is still living in this world. A kiss from Michelle could have had an other worldly effect on him.

Very cool post, thanks so much for telling us your experience. You too Samchez! I wish I would have known about this on time, I only just found out about it last night I missed the Kween.

Do we know when her interview will air on Metro Sports? I hope I haven't missed that too.

Metro Sports is a local sports channel in Kansas City.

I have no way of knowing when they'd air an interview like this, I don't watch the channel at all. I hope I haven't missed the Kwan thing. With my luck, I have...

You can look and see if the station has a weekly Royals show, they might show it then? It is possible it was shown that day on a daily show, though.

I found the stations site here:
    http://www.kcmetrosports.com/

Maybe someone can email them and ask about it?

For some reason I never opened this thread until today!!!! ... and there was a report from the Fab One, Sam Chez. I should have known that he, of all people would show up to meet and greet the Kween. That's what Sam does, and no one does it better or with more class and panache than Sam Chez. What a great report this is with all its great details. Thanks for sharing this with us.
Sam cannot be Mr. Michelle Kwan because she is the Kween and he is the King. All hail King Chez.
