Thumbsup Michelle is invited to White House State Luncheon

My Chinese friend told me this news, which may be true. But I have not found the news on internet yet.

Michelle, along with Yao Ming, are invited by the President and Mrs Bush to attend the White House State Luncheon on Apr 20th. The guest of honor is President Hu of China.

This is a high honor for our Michelle, which shows how highly regarded she is by the President and his wife.

Those who live in DC may need to have their VCR ready.

Thanks for the possible heads up. Though she may be invited, she may not have accepted. There is no COI show scheduled for tomorrow so it's quite possible we may have news (and pictures! =D).

I actually just now found an article (posted an hour ago - it's almost 1am here - so 12am west coast)
    http://www.shanghaidaily.com/art/200..._with_Bush.htm

Around 200 guests, including Yao Ming and Michelle Kwan, have been invited to the lunch banquet after the talk, Gmw.cn said.
And yes, a great honor for Michelle indeed!

Cool! I hope CSPAN carries it esp. since I missed the last time she was at the White House.

If she needs to choose between attending state luncheon in the White House and skating in COI, I think she should definitely go for the state luncheon....it's a prestige, a diplomatic way of presenting the US. I am sure Michelle was selected because she's one of the most outstanding Chinese-American citizens that this country ever sees. I am so happy for her!

Yao Ming is a basketball player. He plays center for the Houston Rockets. He is 7'5" (would be a cute picture of him and Michelle standing side by side).

Woohoo..I'm in DC (actually I'm across the Potomac River in Northern Virginia/Arlington area for part of the day). Its nice knowing Michelle will be in town today. Congrats to Michelle. She is a great person to choose to represent the US at a diplomatic luncheon.

The first lady must be a fan of skating. Met with several in Torino, Invited Kimmie to the White House and now Michelle is invited to a presidential luncheon.

How wonderful for Michelle! First Kimmie gets invited to the White House(I'm a Kimmie fan too), and now Michelle gets invited to a luncheon there. : )

And Sasha was just there, too, I think with Kimmie. Our skaters sure are getting their due!

A picture of Michelle with Yao...lol...wonder if she'd reach his waist??? Maybe she'll wear tall heels!

That's interesting. I'll be protesting Hu Jintao's visit to Yale on Friday, so it's nice to know Michelle and I have something in common (sort of, haha).

That's pretty neat. Part of me want Michelle to be invited to the White House because she's Michelle Kwan, not just because she happens to be Chinese descent. But still, to be able to be in the same room with the 2 great world leaders... wow.

Wasn't Michelle also invited to a state dinner at the Clinton White House, when the president of China was a guest?

Not President, but Premier Zhu Rongji.

Aranjuez -- I was thinking of coming up tomorrow but I have to work. Good luck and if you can, PM me a report!

I don't object to her being invited because she is of Chinese descent. I'm sure a number of Kennedys would be invited if the Prime Minister of Ireland were coming to a state lunch or dinner. I think it shows how America embraces people from many different cultures and ethnic groups and still honors their heritage. I hope we see some pictures of this event!

Oh, how could I have forgotten Condoleeza Rice..... and that she used to pair skate. I think Rice once referred to her skating lessons as an expensive child care while her parents were at school/work. Heck, I just want to have dinner with Dr. Rice and pick her brain.

True, jenaj, Michelle is an excellent representation of the melting pot America. Yeah, I hope there are pictures, I want to see her hair and dress ;-)

This is most likely true. Nancy Kerrigan was invited to the WH State dinner some years back when the Irish president (I think) came visit.

Michelle's been to WH State dinner before the last time the Chinese President came. Her escort was Shep.

our CCTV News and HongKong TV showed the White House welcome ceremony, and both mentioned Michelle's invited to the luncheon. the HongKong reporter said "Michelle Kwan, the queen of figure skating, is also invited". and the commentator of CCTV News talked about Michelle's international repute and esp how famous she is in both US and China.

plus, I heard someone screamed during President Hu's speech and then the alarm rang...
