Thanks for the pics. How can I get the Yahoo pics to come up as a slide show? It sued to do this automatically. Now I don't see any way to advance from pic to pic, so I have to go back & forth to each one individually. Thanks.

Congratulations to the winners, but after looking at the pictures on yahoo does anyone know if Irina did anything but the beillman? :?
:bow :bow :bow Please SG's you need to see what is happening to the world of Figure Skating and make a change here or you will be put out of a job. You know not enough attendance so there has to be a cut back somewhere.

3/3-2 Go Irina! You have to give this girl credit she's what 24/25 and she's still upping that technical ante, Irina is not resting on her laurels and for that I applaud her. If Irina skates like that in the Olympics, I've got no issue with her winning.

I have to ditto Bekalc
Michelle will always be my favorite skater of all time. We love her because of her determination, her passion for the sport and her grace and beauty (inner and outer). Irina doesn't have the same line as Michelle when she skates but her determination (after what she has gone through) and her positive outlook (that smile no matter what) is much better than some skaters who think they are entitled and they should win just cuz they are the chosen one. Irina has lots of passion for the sport, she seems to be friends with Michelle and I am sure they respect each other. We should be able to recognize others' attributes even if MK will always be our goddess in our hearts. Good for Irina for pushing herself and I always like the joy I see in Irina when she skates (the thank god I get to do what I love look). Michelle is always my favorite but I don't hate Irina for winning. There are some skaters I respect more than others and I have to give Irina credit for putting her best out there.
On another note...more angels for Michelle

Irina does not have the body line of Sasha/ or Michelle. She's never going to be as pretty to watch on the ice. But Irina can skate. She has good spins, she's fast on the ice and gets great coverage, she also has good edges and great footwork. She's a good skater, she's not just a jumping queen. I'm not saying I don't like Michelle. But I think Irina gets props because she's not just resting on her laurals, and expecting to win on name alone. I respect skaters who are trying to up the technical ante and push themselves.

Irina is on top of the world, literally. She is seriously going to be tough to beat....wow. I really don't know what to say and its really tough to hope for your favorites to beat her when they've been sidelined by injury and she's doing 3/3/2.
bekalc
November 26th, 2005, 03:39 PM
The ice though is slippery. Supposedly Irina was training it for last Olympic season and didn't use it. Really Irina played it safe, and is probably kicking herself. Whose to say that Irina will win it, I mean how many times has the favorite won it. Still I have nothing but respect for Irina. She's been skating consisently awesome for awhile now. She really is the best skater in the world.
This being said my feeling is that the winner, will most certainly land a 3/3. There are too many ladies doing it, and these ladies are catching up artistically. For example, Miki is apparently skating a lot better. I think the winner will land some 3/3's, and that doesn't spell well for Sasha whose been inconsistent in that area. Or Michelle who hasn't done it much lately and is injured.

Congrats to all the medalists - Irina's performance after her illness is really incredible. Her technical content in this program is very impressive. I was sorry to see Emily lose a few spots in the LP, I was hoping she could maintain her place from the SP. And I really wish Amber had been able to move up - she's such a sweet person and I admire her dedication - I hate to see what may be her last year in competition be so difficult for her. I can't believe how quickly the season is going, we're almost to the end of the GP! Nice to see Miki having a good competition - she's really grown on me.

November 26th, 2005, 03:43 PM
Michelle- Gosh I hate asking too much from her now, its good enough for me if she even steps on the ice. If she is able to do a 7 tripple program, that will definetly help. She needs the 3loop back and from what I'v heard around here, its back. I'd also hope she can do a clean a beautiful 3/2/2 because she tried that many times during COI.
She doesnt necessarily needs a 3/3, unless its a 3sal/3loop, that along with a 3/2/2 can seriously help her technical score. If she does a clean skate, combined with level 3 spirals, which she is perfectly capable, and passion, and the bove mentioned jumps......she can possibly do it.

What is it with people complaining about what others post? I didn't see anything in this thread that I consider bashing or beating a dead horse. Sheesh, this is a disucssion forum. Discuss what you want. If all you want to do is congratulate, that's fine. If somebody else has something more to say, that's fine too, as long as it isn't a bash. RANT OFF!!!

Irina may not be the genius of the class, but she's one kid who has studied hard, done her homework, and has perfect attendance. It looks like it's paying off and may finally serve her well at the Olympics at the ripe old age of 26. Gotta hand it to her, even if her skating will never move me.

The scores are out now, these 2 judges scores are side by side. What a contrast.
Reality from one judge:
SS 7
TR 5.75
PE 6.75
CH 5.75
IN 6
Same ol' cheating from another:
SS 8.75
TR 8.5
PE 8.75
CH 8.75
IN 8.75
It looks like a judge who was actually watching and fairly judging Irina finally got randomly selected. I appreciate the comment above about homework, but was the assignment how to get judges to cheat for you? I don't think she should get so much credit for working hard on her COP scores or milking it or knowing how to rack up the points, the tiebreaker will be in the PCS scores or what I call the ordinals of today, and she didn't work hard to get those, they are very undeserved, she got those from dishonest judges.

And, a similar contrast with Ando's scores ~
Same judge that gave IS the low scores gave Miki:
SS 7.75
TR 7.75
PE 8.0
CH 8.0
IN 7.75
And, another judge for Miki:
SS 6.75
TR 5.75
PE 6.0
CH 6.25
IN 6.0
What I REALLY hate is the anonymity! In both cases, a huge discrepancy. I would just like to know who gave what! But, I could probably make a good guess. :)

Pardon me for asking the CoP 101 question--
Are the final scores determined by the average of all the scores given by judges or "randomly selected" from the pool of scores given? I strongly hope that the former is a current practice...

I guess the way I see it 2006 Olympic gold medalist are all Russian.Irina and Plushy are for sure now for gold medal. It look like Japanese skater will get silver or bronze fro FS. Russian really did their work this time. Hurrah for them . But will their popularity will last ? I don't think so because when it come to FS Michelle is still the best with or without OGM . Why ? Because nowadays really look for role model and that is the biggest price in all . Let accept it Michelle is well like and love by most people even though she only have silver and bronze . People will buy the ticket to see her. That drive the ISU nuts because she did not commit GPF for the last two season and that is a money loosing for ISU side. Just a thought!!

Irina is simply using the age-old strategy of every teacher's pet. Learn the rules. Be obvious about your adherence to the rules. Make it look like you LIKE the rules and that they're the best thing since sliced bread. Make sure the teacher sees you sitting in the front row every class.
How could any teacher not give you bonus points and a gold star? It doesn't hurt to be the emotional favorite either.

3 lutz poorly landed off balance back of her blade we have been seeing it for years it used to land her in 2nd place --no more.
3sal/3loop/2toe awkward landing off balance long pause between the 3loop to 2 toe (couldn't tell if it was fully rotated) we have seen it before that wonky body position she gets a la Worlds 2000 and 2001.
3 flip /2toe off balance and pitched forward at the shoulders.
3flip same as above.
3 toe and 2 axel and 3 loop landed cleanly
Spiral sequence wobbliest edges I have seen from her with unGodly free leg positions at the end...
The music was on...sorta like when you are at a roller rink and there are 200 people skating to the music overhead no one really is relating to it....same here.
spins same old and they are boring and of poor position and not anesthetic to watch.
TRAVESTY OF A SCORE!
Look she doesn't even have to go for a 2nd lutz which she could rarely do anyway.
Hair dyed way too dark reminded me of the Godfather.

Wow... it sounds like Irina did not skate crispy clean--and got her personal best scores?! :? Let's see how this would turn out at the Olympic Games.
I acknowledge Irina as a fine skater with great athletic ability. Yet, I couldn't believe she is a world class senior level skater when I saw her doing the fan spiral at the CoC. What an eye-sore.

i couldnt see it too clearly in the video, but it seems that both irina and Miki's triple triples were landed with the same amount of rotations. Why is Miki's downgraded and not Irina's???

I again just saw the broadcast of IS lp at COR.
She was good with her jumps, but her other elements are so so.
Interesting that Susie mentions how her speed lots of time covers up her lack of polish.
I gotta say that this music is the most boring, exactly like elevator music.
Reminds me of the elevator stuff that Soldotova was so fond of (what happened to her?)
It was a good performance, but it should have been a score breaking performance, no way.
Paul also mentions that alot of the japanese girls are getting their 3/3s downgraded. Interesting. IS seem to get the benefit of everything that she does, no matter how unpolished or sloppy they come off.
Oh my god, they showed the clip of Denise doing her spin and it looks perfect. Compare that to IS and it is just night and day. Actually, I most have pointed out, Miki’s Bielman position is better than IS.

Really, if that’s the case, I have a feeling that there’s a conspiracy going on.
If not a conspiracy, the callers are being quite generous towards IS.
I just don’t think her Bielman is a level 4. She may have a slight speed advantage over Miki but Miki’s leg is more stretched up than IS.
Almost everyone else seem to get their 3/3s downgraded while IS get hers ratified. No excuse, they have slow mo at their finger tips now.
I wonder who the caller was? That is not secret is it?

Obviously IS is the highest standard in CoP.
If it's about going from element to element most of Irina's elements are inferior to the other ladies. As stated above in other posts this is not reflected in the scoring. Her jumps have improved, but she is not the ony one who does 3's fully rotated. Ludicrous.
There would have to be several federations to complain or point this out. If the US Federation did it would look like were are poor sports and whinning. It's the International Skating Union, why isn't anyone speaking up. They have been forming the CoP for a couple of years, didn't anyone see it coming? Seeing IS skate shows body line, grace, artistry................ gone.
IS is not 35.16 (one comp) points better than everyone else.
The padding of her scores all along have added up. Does anyone now how much higher her total GP scores are? Last year's?
