I know you are a skater. I wanted to know if you still compete, and if you compete, do you use this new CoP system or do you still skate under the 6.0 system. Since you are a skater, I would really be interested in YOUR opinion of the new system Vs. the old system, if you have time. I know school is starting soon across the country.

I wasn't sure which section to post this, so I posted it in Random Chat.

Thank you.

Hey Angela!

Thanks for thinking of me! I hope you and your family are doing well and enjoying your summer!

Because the COP is so new, it's only being used in selective competitions (unless their internationals). They are also being used for only the novice-senior level skaters this season and I am currently at intermediate which is one level below novice. Still being under the 6.0 system this year, judges are having the COP in mind and rewarding skaters for having COP savy programs you could say.

I am excited about skating w/ the COP system next season as a novice. I like how it rewards creativity and the overall package. You also get a score sheet after each performance and can see how each judge rated you on each element. That's very helpful. I did like the concept of the 6.0 system though, but I think with tweaking, COP could work really well.

I totally agree with you GMAN. Even though CoP isn't being used for my level (Juvenile), judges have been trained under that system already, and are rewarding the harder, CoP saavy elements in the programs. My coach and I have been working hard this summer to add changes of edges to spins, an inside-outside spiral (instead of two separate ones), a fan spiral, and are playing around with jump entrances (lunge into 2flip, ina bauer into 2toe-2toe-2loop). It's definately a challenging process to add these in, but I know it'll be well worth it in the end! :)

Good luck with your season, GMAN! Will you be at the Minnesota Championships this year? Uppers?

Hi Chipso! Good luck with your training & season! Thank you! Yes, I'm skating at MN State in a couple weeks and am also going to Uppers in Duluth! Do you have any competitions coming up as well?

Yeah, I'm doing Maplewood in about a month or so. I decided not to go to Uppers this year since twisted up my knee in early June. The competition level is really high there, so we decided to start off again at a less "pressure filled" event. :b

St. Cloud, Duluth, Braemar, and Roseville *might* be the other ones that I do this season. I guess we'll just have to wait and see though . . . .:)

Good luck at State and Uppers!

I think this belongs in Skating Chat. So there it goes.
