These are the only 2 clips I have converted from tape. I have the ladies SPs and LPs on tape, but won't get to convert to vid files for at least a week.
Nancy Kerrigan came back from her disastrous 1993 Worlds to win Piruetten in October 1993 on Olympic ice in Hamar. All the top ladies were there except Baiul and Harding, who had competed earlier at 1993 Skate America. Nancy looked very confident and competitive, and skated the best I had seen her to date. She did not let mistakes get to her as she had in the past. When I saw her here, I knew she was ready for the 1994 Olympics. So did Tonya. :eek

Hi everyone! Does anyone know what happened at that competition. I know Nancy Kerrigan won and skated well against a tough field of ladies. Would anyone care to elaborate and provide a few details? Is there any video of this competition? Thanks!

You're welcome. :) Your timing is perfect. I had just uploaded these clips an hour earlier for posting at another site.
Will try to get Lu Chen, Surya, Yuka, and Josee up ASAP. Oh yes, and a very charming Tanja Szewczenko was there.

This was a great competition and one in which Kerrigan unveiled the new, emotionally stronger Nancy. She fell on the 3lz in the SP and was 2nd behind Chouinard heading into the free skate. She pulled out all of the stops in the LP and completed a clean program with a 3t/3t. She doubled her 3l, but the rest of the program was clean and beautifully executed. I was so proud of her for bouncing back and showing just how hard she had worked on her skating and her mental game over the off-season.
Chen Lu of China completed six triple jumps and also skated very well, finishing second to Kerrigan in the LP. She managed to jump from 5th or 6th in the SP to win the bronze. Chouinard held on to win the silver medal. Surya Bonaly had a surprisingly mediocre competition and finished fourth.

Kerrigan was ahead of her time attempting a spread eagle into a Triple Lutz/Double Toe in the SP. She did it in the warm up. Very COP friendly and she was also doing a spiral into the Loop and a spread eagle into a Double Axel in the LP.

What I remember about Piruetten is how proud I was that Nancy skated so well in the long. Also, it was the first time I got to watch Ina and Dunjin skate, and I fell in love with their skating right from the start.

What I remember about Piruetten is how proud I was that Nancy skated so well in the long. She was amazing wasn't she? She completely turned herself around from the 1993 Worlds disaster. It's not easy to just make yourself become that mentally tough, but she did it.
Emdiaz, just wanted you to know I haven't forgotten about posting vids - just haven't had the time yet. Unless something comes up, I believe I have some of the weekend free to convert my tapes to vid files and upload. I'll start a thread in Downloads and post a link here.

TongueNCheek-I am never able to open any of your videos. Is there some special instructions on downloading them?
Re Nancy at 93 Worlds, I don't know if this was an excuse or the truth, but I heard Nancy in an interview saying that she had a very painful ingrown toenail at that worlds & that she had the nail removed between the SP & LP, which had to contribute to her disasterous skate. During the 90's Nancy wasn't my favorite skater but I don't remember her as being one to make excuses, so I believed it. Does anyone else remember this story?

I remember that story and I agree: Nancy tanked but there was something else going on there besides nerves

Finally getting the 1993 Piruetten vids up here (http://p216.ezboard.com/fmichellekwanforumfrm20.showMessage?topicID=385.to pic).
Includes a link to a wonderful profile on a very young Michelle Kwan. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v53/Tongueincheek/Chickens/clap.gif
Taf2002, there shouldn't be anything special, just the normal YSI download. I've never had anyone else tell me they had trouble. Can you describe exactly the problem you have, the message you get when you try to download? We'll figure it out.

Very interesting preview to the Oly season.
Nancy: well done and very well constructed programs. Shame about the fall inthe SP, but the judges didn't seem to ding her too much for it. 2nd after missing the combo is pretty sweet. It's nice to see Nancy with the fire in her eyes, it's obvious that she was determined that year, makes the Olys outcome all the more sad though.
Lulu: Sometimes I think that Lu just didn't get any respect. Interesting LP, but I think Scott is right that the music didn't fit her style that well.
Josee: Also great to see her with fire in her gut. She was such a lovely skater, and it was great to see her not crumble under pressure for a change. I agree, the move to Toronto paid off.
Surya: I was surprised to see her with 2 programs that were not what she took to the Olys a few months later. Did she get really bad feedback from the judges here? Much as I love her individuality, she really is a mess skating wise. Her programs are always changing and one never knows when she'll throw what jump where, it's really makes a mockery of the whole idea of choreography. Did Annick do her programs? She must have been hard to work with I fear. The fact that she did 3 3ts shows that she was kinda making it up as she went along I feel, and if I was a judge I'd be unimpressed witht he "I'lljust wing it" attitude. Nice try on the 4Sal, but did she always cheat so many jumps? I thought jumps were her raison d'etre.
Tonja: cute, but she really was kinda juniorish compared to the others. With others doing 3/3s and 2 3z programs, how can you expect to advance with the 3loop as your hardest jump.
Was it just the six ladies, or where there more?
