My parents bought one a couple of wks ago and I have heard a few news stories about how their are problems with the car. I looked on the abc news web site and toyotas site and there is nothing about it on either site. I am just wondering if anyone knows about problems with the car.So far my father and stepmother really like the car. They have not had problems with it. They say Toyota is saying they have not heard of any problems with it and have had no complaints of problems. WHy would there be stories on the news about it and Toyota not being informed of the problems. I would appreciate hearing from any of you about the car. I love it, I think it's cool. You start the car by pushing a start button and pressing the accelerator. It does not even sound like it started and it runs smoothly. My husband is thinking about trading his car in for one.

I don't have a Prius, but this is what I read...

The problem with the Toyota Prius wasn't a mechanical issue, it's a computer software issue. In some late end 2004 models and some of the first groups of 2005 models manufactured, there was a software error. Toyota is looking into the issue and has notified those owners that a software patch is available to address the problem. The problem may have caused some Prius's to stall at highway speeds.

Odds are, if your parents just bought and/or recieved their Prius within the last month, they won't have to deal with the "recall" as the software problem has been corrected in newer 2005 models. If their car is involved, they'll likely get notice from Toyota within the coming month to bring their car in for the software upgrade...

I've known a Prius owner and she loved it! Hope your parents enjoy theirs too!

In fact we own 2 of them! We had a 2003 that we love so much that we bought a 2005 a few months ago. There was an article in yesterday's L.A. Times about how few problems they have. We did have a computer issue with the older one, but they fixed it immediately. We get great mileage in both and the 2005 really feels like a luxury car. Congrats to your parents, I'm sure they'll be very happy. The biggest problem in the beginning is to remember to watch the road and not the energy and consumption display!
