I'm glad about the move. Phil will make a big difference for the Lakers next season. He's said that his "wounds" have healed, and now he and Kobe are back on track. He also said he won't write any more books. A lot of L.A. people are very happy.

I'm an LA person, and I am not "very happy".
I think Jerry Buss (the owner) hired him in an effort to make SOMEONE in that organization likeable. The press surrounding Kobe has been less than favorable, the radio and tv ratings are down, the jersey sales are down, and the attendance in the pricey areas is kaputs. (Let's just say last season was the first in a long time when tickets couldn't be scalped for $20,000). In addition to the above, the owner has been blamed for breaking up Shaq/Kobe/Phil, the general manager doesn't know his a$$ from a whole in the wall, and they didn't make the playoffs.
To me it's damage control.
And I'm not fooled, the first time they have a 4-5 game losing streak Kobe and Phil will turn on each other.

All that remains to be seen. I hope not.
