Today I was thinking about the time I went to NYC. It was like my second time of being there and I was walking though Times Square with my sister when we ran into this older woman. Boy did she smell good. Then she said "excuse me" very politely. Then some man grabbed my arm. I wondered what was going on (thinking that I was part of a mugging) and then he noted that I just ran into barbara walters! I almost peed my pants! It may not be anything special but I'll always remember that run in in times square. Barbara heard the man and then smiled when we turned around to see her and she waved at us. Wow.
Well that is about my only run in with fame. I've been on my local Pittsburgh channels countless numbers of times from either standing in line at best buy (after thansgiving), or even giving reporters my thoughts on a christmas light up night...but nothing compares to that day with barbara!
Who are some celebrities that you have met?8)

I've never really met any celebrities, but I was walking in Central Park in November and John Malkovich walked right passed me!
Other than that...nothing <img border=0 src="http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/indifferent.gif" />

Let's see...us older folk have longer to think about!
Muhammed Ali at O'Hare Airport - oddly enough by himself with a gaggle of young boys hanging on him. I'll never forget the look in his eyes, nor the fact that he knew the same shortcut out of O'Hare that we did:) That was in 1968.
Chris Farley on State Street in Madison not long before his death.
Lou Gossett, Jr. at the Breckenridge Film Festival in 1994 for a screening of "Zarafina."
Howard Dean:) last October - shook his hand:)
Senator Paul Simon - I was 14 and campaigning for a new governor alongside one state rep. named Paul Simon. One of the nicest human beings I have ever met.
edited to say: Oh, yes, I had the privilege of watching the greatest skater ever, Michelle Kwan, skate to FOG.
I'll have to think more....:)

pamela anderson (i was once her personal shopper and i also wrapped her christmas gifts... crazy, huh?), charlton heston, jackie chan, michelle yeoh, some members of the clippers, patrick stewart, other star trek people (at conventions),...
once, i ran into john lithgow jogging with his dog...
that's all i can think of for now

Lemme think...
Well, some of y'all are young and may not remember Janis Joplin, a famous singer in the 1960s. She and I were actually caught - by my mom! - in a ... ummm... compromising situation ... when we were teenagers. She wasn't famous yet, then.
Steve McQueen, who was a movie star - Just happened upon him in the street in Paris in the early 60s, shook hands.
Bobby Kennedy. He came to our air base, and met some of us as he left his plane. He was still Attorney-General of the US at the time; it was after his brother had been killed. Met his wife, Ethel, at the same time. They were very gracious.
Ummm.... Well, more modern people....
Al Gore Jr! This was while he was Vice-President. Very good, strong handshake. Sparkle in his eye.
Hillary Clinton, before she & Bill were elected to the White House. Excellent hug, very gracious.
Some years before that, Michael Dukakis, when he was running for President. Met him in Beaumont, then his next trip to Beaumont, he got off the plane, walked right to me and said, "Nice to see you again, Mr Stopher." Cool! And then, coupla months after that, I slipped past security at a rally in Austin, and right up beside him as he was headed toward his car; he put his arm around my waist and said "Walk with me, Stopher." We walked through the park for a ways, as reporters asked questions of him, et cetera. Very cool!
Of course, Ann Richards. Met her before she was even running for governor. And the same evening I met her, I also met Mickey Leland, who was a famous congressman.
Charlie Wilson, the first time he ran for Congress. He bummed a smoke off me. I voted for him that primary, then moved to Houston and ended up voting for Barbara Jordan in the general election. Never met her, though.
And naturally, having voted for him and campaigned for & with him all the other times I voted in congressional elections, the greatest Congressman ever, the man who served our district with honor and distinction for forty-two years, the Honorable Jack Brooks. Now that he's retired, I see him fairly often. Y'all remember the military's $600 toilet seats? Brooks was a leader in finding those things, on a government oversight committee.
I've met some, yes, mostly in public service. Oh, and I almost forgot - Johnny & Edgar Winter! We sang together - we were in the Junior Choir at St Mark's Church here in Beaumont, when we were wee!

Yup. You know Janis was from Port Arthur, right? That's here, in Jefferson County. She went to Thomas Jefferson HS (now Memorial HS), Class of 1960; I went to South Park HS (now SP Middle S), Class of 1961. So: she was a Freshman at Lamar College (now Lamar University) in Beaumont, and my brother Wally (now Wali) was going there too. He met her on campus, and she soon was friends with our family - both my brothers and me, and our mom.
She visited at our house fairly often, and one day, Mom wasn't home, and Janis and I were in my room and... we kinda took a nap together. We weren't naughty, I promise! But we were on my bed, in each others arms... :o Then Mom came home. :eek

The only famous person I ever met was on my honymoon on Paradise Island. My husband and I wound up sitting at a gambling table next to Sydney Potier (sp?) and his wife (an actress I never heard of Johanna something or other). Anyway he was very nice and friendly. My husband had to explain who he was afterward. So it still counts as a famous person, even though I had not a clue who he was.
My brother in law's father used to run a messenger service in New York and was always running into famous people. He met Madonna twice (before and after she was famous)....she remembered him, The most famous was Richard Nixon....walking down the street in New York with secret service men in tow. Other people...Paul Newman, Elizabeth Taylor, etc.
For the person who knew Janis Joplan...I thought I had heard that Edward Bennett (former head of Education) had dated her as a young man. True? (or mabye I was thinking of someone else.)

Edward Bennett? UMmmmm... wasn't it William Bennett who was Secretary of Education once? Reagan Administration, I think. Republican. I think that's the Bennett who was head of Education. Anyway, I've never heard that he dated Janis, and I have no idea where he's from.
Could be true, though. She had a lot of friends, spent time with many different people. She and my brother Tommy were quite close at one point, but there were other folks she knew very well, too. I never tried to get into the details.
I enjoyed her friendship. She was warmer, softer, and much more sensitive than some people seem to think. When I got home from the Air Force, she was the first person I went to see.

Most of my celebrity encounters have been with older people that you youngsters probably don't even remember. Besides skaters, some of the people you might have actually heard of are:
Dan Blocker (Hoss from Bonanza)
Lee Majors (the 6 Million $ Man)
Costume designer Edith Head
Michael Constantine (the father in My Big Fat Greek Wedding)

I haven't "met" many, but I've had some chance encounters with a few "celebrities":
Met Kristi Yamaguchi at an autograph/charity signing at her holiday ice rink in San Francisco. Only skater I've ever met.
Joyce DeWitt of "Three's Company:" Met her while she was in attendance at a theatrical production at my university in Hayward, CA--she was there to see her niece.
Jim Jackson, basketball player formerly of the Sacramento Kings and now plays for Houston Rockets: he tripped over me at a grocery store in Sacramento after a game. I don't think he saw me--he's 6'10", I'm 5'0"!! Glad he wasn't hurt.
Mike Bibby, another basketball player for the Sacramento Kings: he was standing in line behind me at a bank in Sacramento. I didn't recognize him until after I left the bank. I felt like an idiot!

WOW!!! Did you ever go see her in any of her concerts? My dad did, I've only seen her on video (way way before my time).
As for celebs that I have met, well a lot of skaters (COI 2001).
And well one for the older folks I guess: Al Jardin (spelling may be off he's a Beach Boy)
Also got stopped by Whitney Hustons body gaurd in Maui, so that she could proceed to her suite before me and my mom walked accross her path on the beach.
Artist wise I have met Laurel Burch (best known for her beautiful rainbow cats).

I met Michelle Kwan and a bunch of the COI cast when I got to go backstage at COI in 2002! THAT was amazing! Michelle is SO SWEET and genuine. :LP
For you Warriors or NBA fans, I met Adonal Foyle at the mall! He was doing Christmas shopping (interesting thing- he was carrying 2 huge garbage bags. I guess the gifts were in there). Didn't know it was him, but my boyfriend pointed him out, and we went up to him as he went into the Ritz camera store. He was really polite, and very sweet!
Some close encounters: (i.e. got VERY VERY close to them but didn't actually talk to them or meet them)
-Freddie Prinze Jr: His movie "Boys and Girls" was filmed at my school (UC Berkeley) and I was standing about 10 feet away from him because I was an extra... heehee :)
-Kristi Yamaguchi: I'm from the same hometown as her, and when she won the Olympics in '92, the city threw a victory parade for her at the park, and I got to see her riding in sitting on a convertible. Very cool!
-Howard Dean: came to speak at our company! He's not very tall. A GREAT speaker.

dominic hasek at the mall...then he opened his wallet to pay and we saw his license and it said dominic hasek. and then i understood his accent! LOL!!! :lol :rollin :lol That is funny!!! Poor Dom! His accent can be very difficult to understand at times.
Pretty much the only famous people I've ever met are hockey players: Steve Yzerman, Darren McCarty, Kirk Maltby, Manny Legace, Alex Delveccio, pretty much the whole Saginaw Spirit team, though Mike Brown is probably the best. :)
I've met some politicians too: Bill Schutte(?) and Dave Camp. Dave Camp is awesome. He arranged to have the Stanley Cup brought to my tiny hometown for a couple of hours. That was just cool. I saw George Bush from a distance when he came to my university during the 2000 campaign.
We could have met Michael Bolton in Auburn Hills, but my sister and I were more interested in going to the International Figure Skating challenge! ;) :lol
I just don't live in an area where there are too many famous people.

My list isn't very long. I've met:
Adam Duritz
Art from Everclear
Bryan Adams band, but not the man himself. (I don't want to meet him. I would want to take him home)
Kathy Ireland
Maria B
And when I was in Florida Kelly Ripa was at the same hotel and out in the pool when I was there. She is NOT a sweet, humble, friendly person in "real life."
I walked past OJ Simpson at the Football Hall of Fame, but I was too impressed with the JOE MONTANA jersey that I just smiled and OJ and ran to the jersey. :)
I have also met Ray Evans. (if any of you know who he is)
I've also met some Buffalo Bill football players and Buffalo Sabre Hockey players when I go to the clubs in Ellicottville.

When I was in San Francisco in 1967-68, Janis was singing with Big Brother & the Holding Company. When they played a concert, I would go past the ticket-buying line, and tell the guy at the door, "I'm Jerry Stopher."
The answer I got every time was, "Miss Joplin is expecting you. Just go to the dressing room."
And when I did that, Janis's usual first comment was to say to someone, "Hey get Jerry a beer!"
So, yeah, I was there for some concerts.

Dang, everyone has met alot of celebs... I'm just bunk, no major stars for me. :lol However, I did have the chance to meet Jason Rockman, who is the lead singer for Slaves On Dope ( a metal band btw). Met after they played their portion of the show. Man, that dude had a wierd shaped and funny feeling head! Very strange! Also, I met one of the NDN dudes (I'll think of the name later and edit this) from the movie Dances With Wolves at a NDN Symposium at my college. Also, I swear I was talking to Ray Liotta in the elevator of a casino/hotel in Kansas City Missouri. The dude looked and sounded exactly like him. I almost asked him but decided not to cuz he might be like one of those celebs on that E! show Celebrities Uncensored and kick me or something. For real tho'! :)

I have also met Jessica Simpson, Nick Lachae, Paula Abdul, and some others that I can't really think of right now. Jessica Simpson is BEAUTIFUL!

So are we talking about "seeing" or "talking" to celebrities? Do athletes & musicians count?
Talking: Lots of skaters. Johnny Bench, Don Sutton, Benjie Molina & Bengie Gil (all these guys are baseball players) Music: The Eagles, Linda Ronstadt, Johnny Winter, Aerosmith. Actor: Bruce Campbell - love this guy. (book signing and he did Q&A at his movie Bubba Ho-Tep last year)
Seen up close, during different events, at CA Adventure Land. All the Anaheim Angels. A majority of the Soap Stars on ABC. A number of ABC sitcom stars, the old team from MNF and Michelle Kwan. These were events where you sat in on Q&A and, if you wanted, waited in line to get autographs, etc. So I'm not really sure if this counts. Also I've been to about 50 rock concerts but never met the bands, only watched them.

I met John Zimmerman and Silvia Fontana when I took a clinic at the rink. He skated over and introduced himself and shook my hand. I'm surprised that the ice didn't melt beneath my feet! They are going to have some beautiful children, and are a real case of opposites attracting. Very nice people.
And speaking of running into, I nearly ran over James Gandolfini. He bought a country estate down the road from me. I was racing to get my daughter to a field hockey tournament and whom should I see but Tony Soprano, wearing a bandanna, with his son perched on his shoulders, walking in the middle of the road. Yikes.
I also met Ken Daneyko, and so did my son who is a PeeWee hockey player. He was star-struck for sure.

I grew up in Martinsville and they have a Nascar track there and before racing got to be real big we'd see the drivers at restaurants, the mall, etc. all the time and not think twice about it.

Pearl Jam. I think Eddie Vedar used to live in San Diego and we went down to the radio station and met them. They were very cool.
Athletes:
I'm an acquaintance with Green Bay Packer Kabeer Gbaja-Biamila. I went to school with him at SDSU. He's a very sweet guy. We went through this program called "Summer Bridge" together in 1995. I later ran into him at Cox and he remembered me.
Az Hakim. I just had one class with him and it struck me as odd when I saw that he had football photos of himself on the front of his folder. I was only a sophmore at the time and I didn't really know him.
encounter:
Michael Jackson. I was in Orlando for my cousin's wedding. We were at Downtown Disney and we heard a little bit of commotion. I thought that it might have been a Disney character because there was a commotion, not craziness. It was Michael Jackson with a team of people around him. My cousin got the footage on tape. I was mad that I didn't have a camera with me. Behind him were a bunch of people dressed up in Spider Man costumes.:rolleyes I guess they were dressed up to blend in with his kids because they were wearing Spider Man masks.
The following day we went to Disney World. We were on our way back out of the park and someone from our group spotted him coming in. No one had really noticed yet so we got up close but I didn't want to bug him so I just took a couple of pictures of him. (I had a camera that day.) No Spidy costumes that day but someone sent in the footage of him at Disney World to ET so it was kinda cool that I was there.

Most of the famous people I've met have been sports related either skating or baseball :)
Nomar Garciapparra -probably my most "proud" meeting :) Friendly and chatty-nothing like the media makes him out to be. And adorable!
Pedro Martinez-very funny
Trot Nixon and his wife
Jason Varitek
Brian Daubach
Tim Wakefield - soooo sweet. Bought me a drink in the hotel bar after a Red Sox/Yankees game in New York
Rod Beck-funny, more like a trucker than a baseball player
Johnny Damon
Derek Lowe
Carl Everett - another really REALLY nice guy believe it or not
Manny Ramirez
Lou Merloni
Jerry Remy
Dwight Evans
Jim Rice
Michelle Kwan
Kurt Browning-my second most "proud" encounter :)
Yuka Sato
Rudy Galindo
Ingo Stuer and Mandy Woetzel
Artur Dimitriev
Elvis Stojko
Katarina Witt
Nancy Kerrigan
Liz Manley
Todd Eldrege and his parents
Ed Begley Jr.
Lauren Bacall- stunning even at her age now!
Jax for General Hospital (forget his name!)

I will skip the skaters list; I think I have met most of the most reknowned skaters, just because skaters are so fan-friendly and accessible. Kudos to them! :)

There are other people I've seen in passing, but not really met. I once took my brother into Manhattan for the day when he came to visit me, and everywhere we went, we kept passing comedian Jackie Mason on the street. I have no idea why, but the guy was everywhere. It got to be our running joke that he was stalking us, LOL.
Once, I briefly lost my keys at the Y, and while I was squatting down on the floor digging through my backpack to find them, a handsome older gentleman passed by, smiled, and said hello. I thought he looked familiar, and I said hi back, but I didn't realize who it was until just after he was gone. My suspicions were confirmed when I saw a friend later that day, who excitedly said that she had run into Paul Newman at the Y. I replied, "OMG, so did I!!!" At the time it happened, I thought I must have been dreaming that up, but I guess not! :lol

B. Claudia, I ran into Edith Head in the early 70's (the year of the Sylmar quake--'71?). She must've been in her 60's or 70's and was still working at Universal Studios. She was so tiny!
I was completely in awe. She was one of my role models, as she was a very powerful and influential woman in Hollywood at a time when most women didn't even work outside the home. I have a copy of her book, "How to Dress for Success" somewhere.

beegirlw - That's really cool!! :) I'm really glad you liked Paulie - I thought that was a cute movie!!
Anyway, Hallie isn't doing anything with Pepsi at the moment but she is still a very busy little girl - she co-hosts ET (Entertainment Tonight) sometimes and some award shows (i.e. Emmy Awards etc.). She was also on Broadway in NYC last year, in The Women, which was also shown on TV a few times.
She was in a few tv shows lately - Presidio Med, Get Real (actually this one was farther back...her brother starred in this :) ), and some made-for-tv movies.
She's been filming a few more new movies lately but they won't be out for a while. (IIRC though, she has a movie coming out soon called Jesus, Mary, and Joey.) And actually, tonight, tomorrow night, and Sunday night, TNT will be premiering a "new re-make" of The Goodbye Girl, which she is in. I can't wait to see it!!
:D
Other than that, she's been attending SO many movie premieres - she's a big Michelle fan (good taste!! :D ) but didn't know that she was also at the premiere of The Rookie in NYC and when she found out from me afterwards, she was sad LOL!
Oh yeah and she skated with a ton of the big name skaters (though Michelle wasn't at this ice show :( ) at Madison Square Garden recently...lucky girl!! :) And she is indeed in school still haha - 6th grade and having a blast. :)

This is my second time attempting to post. :\
I met several skaters at SC '03.
Other than skaters . . .
I went to high school (Paul G. Blazer in Ashland, KY) for one year with Ashley Judd. She was in my French class. The Judds came to her graduation, of course, but I only saw them from a distance. My mom went to high school with Naomi Judd. Billy Ray Cyrus and I attended sisters churches as kids. I only remember that he sang with a group of boys at youth meetings. Of course, they weren't famous then.
I met Hillary Clinton during the '92 campaign. She gave a speech at my alma mater, Marshall University in Huntington, WV.

Ran into, literally, Franco Harris from the Steelers also:
Tristan Rogers who was starring on General Hospital at the time
Mikhail Baryshnikov and Jessica what's her name
I'm from Arkansas and used to work at the State Senate so Bill and Hillary, although I had seats next to them at the ballet one season. He is nice, she is ice cold.
Wes Clark, of course. Great guy
and my two favorites, Jon Krakauer who wrote Into Thin Air and SIR EDMUND HILLARY, in the hotel lobby of the Fairmont

Not Sarah Jessica Parker, but she who I will not refer to by her name, jessica he was "dating" at the time. Hint: She starred in Tootsie and the Postman Always Rings Twice. They have a daughter, who is an adult now. Yes he could dance. I stood in line many times to get tickets to see him dance. Finally I met the father of one of the girls in the corps and got backstage connections. He was always very charming and fun.

Wow Pauline, you've met Tino?! I'm so jealous! Was he nice? I wanted my chance to meet him, but the stupid Cardinals traded him to Tampa Bay before I got a chance to see him play again. I'll sure miss him, and I really don't know what good my Tino jersey will do now that he's gone!
I've met a few skaters: Elvis, Todd :D , Rudy, Surya and Michelle. Funny story about Michelle; at the 1999 COI stop in Kansas City, she was autographing my program when some guy reached his hand right by my face and said "Hey, sign my hand!!"---she said "Yeah right!" and had the funniest look on her face at that request; we kind of shared a laugh about that one. Elvis actually got down on the level of my then 4 year old cousin and talked to her for a few minutes.
I've met Bruce Michael Hall, formerly of "Passions" and "One Life To Live" when he was in Springfield--Southwest Missouri does not get very many celebrities down this way (although Tim Conway and Harvey Corman are going to be in Branson sometime this year, I'd like to see that).

You mean Jessica Lange. Ok here goes, I'm old too so you all might not know these guys but very famous years ago. I saw Abe Vigoda (Fish on Barney Miller)eating a hamburger a few tables away with his wife at the Farmers Market in Hollywood in the late 70's. My brother in law went over to talk to him but I was too shy. That same day, only an hour later we saw Dick Clark coming out of an office on Sunset and putting stuff in his car trunk. The funny part of all this is I had just told my visiting realatives that I had lived in Los Angeles all my life and never saw a celebrity. Also met Donald O'conner while waiting for luggage at the Philadelpia airport- early 70's. I was visiting inlaws. He sat right down and waited for his luggage. because everyones bags were held up. I said omg and he smiled and asked me what I was doing there. I said I was having a baby-duh. I ment I just found out I was pg with my 2nd child. He laughed. He was so nice. As we were talking, I looked up and saw Cathy Rigby and comics Allen and Rossi. I just started screaming and Donald told me they were all there to do the Mike Douglas show. I will never forget how great Donald was and am always happy to see him dance up the side of the wall in that movie(singing in the rain?) I think he recently passed away, not sure. Btw, Cathy gave me a dirty look when I yelled her name. Also my youngest daughter got to meet NO Doubt on a back stage pass. None of this is important 'cause Jerry layed on a bed with my all time idol JANIS friggin JOPLIN. I can't believe it! How cool is that?

Yeah but, Beachgirl, you sat and talked with Donald O'Connor! Did he sing for you? I remember hearing him on TV back in the olden times, and O! What a voice!
When my younger son, Dylan, started singing at Sulphur High School and I first went to a concert they did, I heard his marvelous tenor tones ... ahhhhh such a pleasure! And my mom said, "Reminds me of Donald O'Connor." So beautiful!
I guess it's this weekend they have the Annual Janis Joplin Birthday Bash at the Port Arthur Civic Center. I never go. It's just people making money off her memory, people who didn't really respect her when she was alive. That's what I think, anyway.

I walked by Rick Moranis in NYC once :) Saw Samuel L. Jackson filming "Unbreakable" and walked by Kristi Yamaguchi in Philadelphia! I've met a lot of skaters too including the KWEEN! My brother works ina sports store and meets people all the time. "I'll be home late today - Ashanti is looking around"

Jerry, as far as I know Donald O'conner was primarily a dancer although he did sing in the movies. I still can't believe you knew Janis, I'm so jealous.

January 18th, 2004, 05:24 PM
O'Connor was both a singer and a dancer. I remember the singing better.
Meeting famous people is cool, knowing them seems cooler, but everyone needs to remember: they're just people like us, except they are well-known for whatever reasons. They still, as the saying goes, put their pants on one leg at a time.
When I met Al Gore Jr, sure, he was Vice President of the USA, and yes, that's impressive. But he was just another human, another Citizen of the United States, which is in my opinion a much higher office than Vice-President. ;) And me, what am I? A Citizen of the United States. So Al and I are equal, and that's what I was thinking when we met.
I complimented his advance team (I'd worked with them on setting up the event), and then told him they deserved a raise. He seemed to appreciate that. :D

I don't know if these count, but I've thought of a couple of other encounters last night when I was re-watching the Burt Bacharach Tribute on Ice:
I sat a row and a few seats below Dionne Warwick for the Bacharah tribute.
I also once sat one row below Kristi Yamaguchi's mother at a Sacramento stop of SOI. I've also talked to her mother on the phone when the Always Dream Foundation (Kristi's charity--which her mother runs) were having problems with my advanced ticket order for one of A Golden Moment shows.
BUT the encounter that could've happened, but didn't, was this weekend because I am the biggest WIMP in the world!!! My absolute favorite basketball player was having a charity event/autograph signing this weekend in Sacramento. Well, I got to Sacramento but I couldn't bring myself to even go near the event. I wimped out! Ugh! Maybe it has something to do with him being 6'10" and IMHO--gorgeous!!! I couldn't do it! Oh well, there'll be other charity events that he'll put on...at least he has one at least once a year.
Yes, Jerry, celebrities are normal people. But it is their special talents that us normal people admire about them. So, we understandably get a little star struck. Everyone wants to have something special about them that people admire, which is why we strive to achieve that; and if we can'twe do what we can to get close to that, and that usually is in the form of encountering a celebrity.

to Skate America in Colorado Springs in 1999, I had supper at an Italian restaurant nearby. While I was in line, Alexei Yagudin walked up with another man and I got to say hello. He was quite friendly.
When we were seated I was put in a booth right in front of him, so I got to hear all his business conversation with his friend. The waiter had no idea who he was, so at one point I turned around and told the waiter that he was serving the greatest male skater in the world!

I was doing some work for my father one day and had to go another town to drop off some plans for a house (dads a builder) and this was when Walker Texas Ranger was on tv. They were filming in this small town called Prosper (texas) and I was just driving along listening to talk radio and I saw something going on ahead of me and had to stop suddenly. I was going slower and trying to look at the same time when Chuck Norris started crossing the street. I just stared at him for a second thinking that looks like Chuck Norris. i guess he saw the look on my face and realized I recognized him and waved and smiled at me. I had almost run him over. I was shocked. YOu dont expect to see a celeb in the middle of nowhere. At the time, it was the middle of nowhere. Now its all built up, but that made my day. WHen I came back around, I had to take a detour because they had the road closed off. I wonder ti this day what the reason was for closing that road. Was it because of my almost hiting their star.?? This was weird to see this because I was thiniing about this last nite when I was trying to go to sleep.
Bwheeler, I like your line "traumatized by cows", I was driving another time in the country and coming up to a turn in the road and had the feeling I should slow down, so I did and thank God I did because ahead of me was 4 or 5 cows in the road just walking like they belonged there. I am so glad I slowed down and didnt hit them. Imight not be here today if I had hit them. I am traumatized by cows too.

I had the opportunity to spend @ 10 hours with Kristi Yamaguchi back in late 2001. The company I work for is an Olympic Sponsor and typically, prior to an Olympic year hosts a series of Olympic-themed events at various cities across the country. There are past Olympic Gold Medalists who participate in these events as speakers. Kristi was the chosen OGM for my city and I was assigned the responsibility for identifying a local employee to escort her throughout the day of activities. Of course, I chose me!!! I met her that morning in her hotel lobby (along with her IMG agent) and stayed with her throughout a children's hospital visit, VIP customer luncheon, local press interviews and introduced her for 2 employee sessions where she made speeches, did Q&A and posed for photos. The evening ended when I rode with her to the airport. It was a neat experience as I got to ask lots of questions and was was a bystander during her discussions with her agent about her schedule, preparations for the SOI opening (this was the year she did the pairs program with Denis Petrov and she was talking about him wanting to practice on Xmas day - he had forgotten 12/25 was a holiday in the US!), etc. Her agent, Yuki, was also a real sweetie and ended up faxing me a note that she had arranged for tickets and passes for one of the SOI stops near my area for that season.
I have seen other celebrities a few times while travelling in Vegas and LA, but, this is certainly my one close encounter.

I interviewed him on the phone twice & met him in person once. He is a very nice, hard-working guy! I've always felt that he was very much underappreciated as a musician; I wish he would have done more producing and writing for others so he wouldn't have been dismissed as a "former teen idol."

I thought I had already replied to this, but I guess not... Here goes:
- Cybil Shepard, when she was doing a signing at my old job.
- two cast members from the short-lived show "Popular" when they were doing another signing at my old job. Their name escapes me, however. I believe they got married to each other in real life though.
- Donald Faison (from Clueless and Scrubs), while they were filming "Trippin" at my high school
- (and this past weekend) Jenna Leigh Green (from "Sabrina" as Libby), while she was signing autographs after watching "Wicked" the musical...
Some notable mentions lol:
- Camille Velasco from American Idol 3; came out to my friend's party in Pasadena a few months ago
- Anthony Fedorov from American Idol 4; at Dave & Busters at The Block in Orange.
- Ruthie from the Real World Hawaii (the drunk one) at a club in West Hollywood

celebs i have met:
-charlotte church (costco book/dvd signing)
-bill nye the science guy (my friend and i went to the UW and he was giving a presentation along with a professor. prior the the presentation we asked for his autograph but he said he couldnt give any out because there were too many kids)
-president bill clinton (book signing) my mom and i were the last group of 20-30 people that got to meet him and then he left. by the time we got to him he was signing really fast but he still kept his signature neat. his secret service were really annoying because we didnt get to give the book to him. the secret service passed the books down to him and then we would watch him sign it and then the secret service would hand it back to us (i think). the process was really fast.
-meg cabot (book signing) she did a talk about her book Princess in Love and described her experience about the premiere of the PD Movie and talked about meeting Julie Andrews and seeing Mandy Moore.
-astronaut, Pinky Nelson.

I saw Oprah Winfrey going up the escalator as I was going down at Marshall Fields in Water Tower Place. She was going to the really expensive designer floor. I smiled at her and she smiled back.
I shook hands with Jerry Springer after I saw a taping of his show. He is really gracious to his fans. He shook everyones hand on the way out and thanked them for coming. He also posed for pictures for those who wanted them.
I shook hands with former Illinois governor Jim Thompson back when he was governor at the community college that I attended at the time. I really didn't want to shake his hand as I never voted for him, but I didn't want to be rude, so I accepted the handshake.
I got tenor Placido Domingo's autograph and had my picture taken with him at Chicago's Lyric Opera. He was very gracious. I have also gotten the following opera singers autographs: Jose Carerras, Alan Titus, Sherril Milnes. Jerry Hadley walked past but didn't sign any autographs.
I also saw Chicago Bull Center Bill Wenington at a Baker's Square restaurant by the Berto Center back in the Bull's heyday.
My sister used to order "Stiff Stuff" hair gel for Jim McMahon, the Chicago Bears quarterback the year they won their superbowl. She has also seen Da Coach, Mike Ditka at the store she used to work at.

Last year I attended college in New York City
I did a work project (internship) at VERSACE where I saw P. Diddy. I was so ecstatic. I started pointing at him to the people I worked with. "Is that? Is that?" was all I could say. One day I answered the phone and it was Kimora Lee Simmons, who later hosted that show Life and Style"
I saw that guy Adam from the first Average Joe in Bloomingdales.
I used to after my morning class hang outside in front of the "Today Show" I used to see Katie, Matt and Ann through the class.I waived at Katie once and she waived back to me. I also saw Lester Holt and Campbell Brown through the glass. I also saw Steven Cojocareau as well. I also saw Al Roker doing his report outside. He is not a friendly guy. He was introducing a performance from Sesmae Street Live and he insulted the characters. I even told him He looked good and he frowned at me. According to a lady who lived in my apartment building he is cranky all the time.
My mother is from a city in New Jersey where they do a lot of outside shots for The Sopranos. One day we were visiting friends and one day they were filming in front of the fictional Satriales Meat Market. We saw Cristopher (Micheal Imperioli), Paulie Walnuts (Tony Sirico), Vito(Joe from Celebrity fit Club) and Steve Buschemi.
I go to Champions on Ice every year and unfortunately I have never gotten backstage passes. But last year during the finale I got high fives from Victor Petrenko, Elvis Stojko and Marina Annisiina.

There's only a few that I can think of right now (not counting skaters)....
- George Takei. He was visiting my school signing his autobiography.
- Oliver Stone. He was at a Starbucks in Old Town Pasadena when I still worked there. He was there with his son and his son accidentally spilt a cup of coffee on the ground.

Dave Johnson. He won the Olympic Bronze medal at the 1992 Summer Olympics. He works at my old high school. He's worked there since my sophomore or junior year.

I'm surprised about Al Roker. He seems so, well, jolly.
Someone mentioned "Average Joe"--not quite a 'celebrity', but I went to high school with Donato from the first "Average Joe". He was the really heavy set guy who made it pretty far. He was then on the Today Show and saying he was going to go on a fitness program and lose all sorts of weight. Well, I love the guy -- he was actually voted "Most Respected" when we graduated -- but I bumped into him about a month ago and he hasn't lost any weight :( Still a nice guy though and we had a big laugh about "Average Joe" -- he said the girl was actually a real b*tch LOL.

I met George Takai at a book signing once. It was for his novel, way back in 1980. He was really nice.
I just thought of this one.
I used to see Socks the cat when he lived in Little Rock! He purred at me once, but mostly he just looked and walked away.

The most famous encounter I've had was Madonna shopping for shoes in SoHo in NYC ... we were both in the same little shop, and I ended up sitting next to her (but not too close, LOL) trying on some shoes :)
For skaters, I've met Brian Boitano, Alexei Yagudin, Todd Eldredge, Angela Nikodinov ... I ran into Michelle briefly once after 2001 Nationals, I was wearing a UCLA sweatshirt, and she commented on it ... I also won an auction to spend a day with Tim Goebel, I skated with him, and had lunch with him.
I've also met most of the stars on General Hospital and the now canceled Port Charles through many soap opera events I've attended.
I think that's it :)

Don't know if anybody here remembers a band called The New Kids On The Block but a few years ago me and my sister and our cousin went to a walmart shopping mall in kissimmie and met joey mcintyre. It was a 5 or 6 hour line and i got to meet him and get his autograph. I still have it and we took pictures of him. :eek . These were close up pics too. He is super super cute :b . He's now doing that show called dancing with the stars.
