Hey guys,

Has anyone caught the new RENT trailer that just came out on Friday? It's not online yet and supposedly it's showing before Star Wars Episode 3 in select major cities in NY and LA and I'm uncertain where else. They're talking about it on broadwayworld.com forums and compulsivebowlers.org (rent forums). A handful of people have seen it and one person even describes it in detail. It's not a teaser trailer like Da Vinci Code, but 2 and half minutes long...a montage of scenes from the movie with Seasons of Love playing in the background. I'm totally stoked! I'm tempted to watch Star Wars again just for the trailer. Call your local theaters to find out whether or not it's showing, I'm gonna call around OC, so far it's turned up at AMC theaters. Wish me luck!

Cool!! Good luck!

I haven't had a chance to go see the new Star Wars flick yet, so I have no idea of the "RENT" trailer is playing here in the Atlanta area yet. Any clue where to find it online yet?

I'm shocked that they have a trailer with scenes from the movie already! Last I heard, the production hasn't yet finished principle photography yet. Can't wait to see the trailer!!

Oh, the official web site/blog is here - www.sonypictures.com/movies/rent/blog/ (http://www.sonypictures.com/movies/rent/blog/) No trailer space yet though... I am SOOOO looking forward to this movie! ;)

I had no idea they were making a RENT movie! I've seen it twice on Broadway, but this could be cool. Thanks for sharing.

i've seen the stage version recently. I can't wait for the movie.

"The Producers: Movie Musical" finished filming and had it's official photography last May 21st. I heard that trailers will be attached to the "Bewitched" movie coming out soon. Amazing how fast movies are made these days. LOL. I can't wait for this movie too. the official release date is December 21st.

So I couldn't go to the movies this weekend, but thank goodness for RENTheads, cuz one of them brought in their digital camera into the theater and took a clip of the entire trailer....an usher was right by them, so they only have it half screen, but you can clearly hear Seasons of Love, Jesse L. Martin (Collins) and Tracie Toms (Joanne) do a great job singing the solos.

(i'm hoping this still works i changed the link)

Enjoy! I think it sounds great...similar to the original but the quality and tone of the singing is kicked up a couple notches.

Thanks for the heads-up! Unfortunately, that link is already inaccessible due to bandwidth overload. So, I'm off to try and find other links from RENT boards...

OK, I found a board thread at compulsivebowlers.com here - www.compulsivebowlers.org...c&start=80 (http://www.compulsivebowlers.org/boards/viewtopic.php?t=663&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=80)

Scroll about halfway down and there is a post with three YouSendIt links that seem to be active still. I used the last one and got the AVI video just fine. And the film, what I could see of it, looks and sounds amazing!! Chris Columbus may have gotten this thing right after all!

Now I just have to wait for November... :D

Jesse L. Martin!!! EEEKKKKK!!!!!!!

Talk about sexy! This man is one of the most sexiest people in the world of TV. So handsome, can sing, has such a good personality and really cares about the community.

And can he perform as a lawyer.

Yummy!

I saw the trailer in the theater when I went to se Bewitched! It was really neat, and a lot of the things from the theater production of RENT are still there- at least from what the trailer shows. I'm really excited for it to come out.

I loooove Jesse L. Martin. I can't wait to see him sing the "I'll Cover You reprise" one of my favorite songs in RENT.

Also, if you're interested there's also a RENT website up. Here's the link
RENT website (http://www.sonypictures.com/movies/rent/)

The best part of it is the RENT blog. I believe all of the cast members and even Chris Columbus and Jonathan Larson's sister have had at least one blog entry. The entries are mostly written, but they also have video entries which I especially enjoy.
Here's the direct link if you want to only read the blog
RENT cast blog (http://www.sonypictures.com/movies/rent/blog/)

I'm super excited! They already finished shooting the film. I can't wait until November 11th.

They have SUCH a passion for this story and doing it right and you can almost feel their excitement in their blog entries. Its just wonderful to read and I cannot WAIT for the movie this fall!! *bounces* :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

I saw the trailer this weekend before Must Love Dogs. It looks good. Not sure if Ill see it in the theater or wait until its out on DVD though. I haven't seen the broadway play, and it looks a bit depressing.

The movie comes out on November 11 for those in LA, NY and Toronto....November 23 everywhere else. According to the RENT blog, the RENT film cast is going to be on the Today August 4th. They're also trying to do a search in NY on the 4th at Rockfeller Center to find the biggest RENThead fan so they can get tickets to the big Movie Premiere.

edited: checked today show listings and yes the RENT film cast will be there this Thursday morning. YAY! I'm assuming they'll perform Seasons of Love.

Comcast Digital Cable, you can see the Rent trailer as well. You need to go to an On Demand channel. It's channel 01 here in NJ. From there select movies, next select the "In theatres" option. You can then click on Trailers. They offer about 50 movie trailers. Rent is one of them. You can get a full screen view of the trailer and not the downloaded version.

As a big fan of Rent, I too am looking forward to the film. I can think of another poster (Googoo) who is excited about seeing it on the big screen as well.

The official site has some music clips up!

Go to the official site through Sony, then click on the "Enter the Site" link. When the new window pops up, look in the lower left hand corner and then click on the link titled "Launch RENT Music Player". A small window will pop up with 30 sec. clips from most of the songs from the first act!

It sounds really good! I was very pleasantly surprised by how good Rosario Dawson's vocals were. She really does a great job singing! Adam Pascal's voice however came off as weaker since the Original Cast album (could have sounded off for me since I was using the husband's laptop at the time).

But Wilson Heredia and Jesse Martin sounded really strong. Heredia has been given the lead vocal in the song "Will I?" and he sings it wonderfully! I also thought it was a nice way to connect the song to a central character's fears as he struggles with AIDS. I feared some of the linear changes made for the movie version would impact the film negatively but this change to "Will I?" seems a good choice to help further Angel's story...

Enjoy the clips! And I've got Nov. 23rd circled on my calendar! :D

Thanks, colinmom71! :D I just listened to the clips; sounds great! To me, Rosario Dawson's voice is much more pleasing to hear than Daphne Rubin-Vega's. It'll be interesting to hear more of her singing.

I agree with you that Adam's vocals weren't as strong as on the original cast album, but it doesn't necessarily sound "weaker," just more toned down. He sounds less Broadway-ish.

Thanks again!

Thanks for the headups on the music player! Yay, I've been waiting for the music to come on the site since it opened. It's great finally hearing Rosario Dawson's voice and it validates how she was a great pick as Mimi. I'm not that big of a fan of the raspy sounding Mimis of the past, I do however like the sweetness in Rosarios voice.

For myself, I was dreading hearing Adam Pascal's version of Glory on this soundtrack. The reason being that everytime I have heard him sing it live on tv or at a show, it hasn't sounded anywhere near as good as on the OBC recording. So I agree with those saying his voice sounded weak.

Does anyone else think that Taye Digg's voice has less "bite" in this version of "You'll See Boys." I liked it when he sang with more attitude in the OBC recording.

I love Jesse L. Martin, in "Santa Fe" he sounds even better than before. How is that possible? I can't wait to hear him sing "I'll Cover You, reprise" that's one of my favorite songs in the show.

colinmom71, For Will I?, I don't believe the lead soloist is Wilson Jermaine Heredia, but Aaron Lohr. Next to the song name on the player, it says "Aaron Lohr and Company" But it would have been great to have Wilson sing it.

I hope they post the songs for the second act on the player soon. I want to hear more! Supposedly the soundtrack is coming out at the end of September ahead of the movie release. I hope it's true!

The soundtrack is supposed to come out first?! That's the best news I've heard all day! I hope that's true!!!! I haven't been able to hear the music yet here but I did see the Today Show appearances online a few weeks ago and they sounded great. I cannot wait for this movie!!! :D :D :D :D

Huh... OK, I *swear* "Will I?" had Heredia's name underneath it when I went to the web site a couple of days ago... I'd also read on a spoiler board about the vocal change in that song. Maybe it was a typo from the first day or two the music player was up? I can see that happening since Angel does sing within one of the vocal groups from the "Life Support" meeting in that song...

But yeah, I just opened up the RENT music player again (this time from my desktop) and it does indeed mention Aaron Lohr and Company as the vocal artist. Thanks for catching that UCIgirl!

And yes, last I heard the soundtrack is due to be released September 27th. This *may* be the pre-order listing for the movie soundtrack - www.amazon.com/exec/obido...c&n=507846 (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B000AYEI4U/qid=1124796615/sr=8-4/ref=pd_bbs_4/104-5667699-9947955?v=glance&s=music&n=507846) This release mentions the recording label as Warner Bros., whereas the Broadway cast album lists Dreamworks as it's recording label. Not much info on the new album though... Still, it's being tagged for pre-order over here! :D

Yay another trailer, they played it on Access Hollywood today, which I missed but thank goodness for the RENT blog because they update and provide links to everything.

I like this trailer better than the first one, it even gave me goosebumps, I'm sooo excited. Finale B, one of my favorite songs of the show is playing the background. Check it out and let me know what you think.

Colinmom71,

Interesting sidenote, Aaron Lohr who sings that solo in Will I? is one of the bash brothers from the Disney Mighty Ducks movies. I remember hearing that he was in the movie, but I didn't know he'd be singing the part of Steve in RENT. He sounds great!

WOW!! Simply stunning!

I just watched the new trailer and it sounds and looks SOOOO good... Chris Columbus really was the right guy to helm this work as a movie, wasn't he? Man, and I thought it was going to be a long wait for Skate America this year... November cannot get here quickly enough.

And how pathetic is it that I'm tearing up during the darn trailer? I'm going to need a box of Kleenex to get through the actual movie...

Don't worry, I teared up during the new trailer too!! Its SOOOOOO great and I seriously am almost more excited for this movie than I am the GP series. Almost, its pretty close actually, LOL :lol I hope everyone whose anxious for the movie takes a look at the new trailer because its just wonderful. Is it November yet?! :D

Yay, it's confirmed the soundtrack is coming out on September 27 and you can preorder it on Amazon for cheaper $22.49 instead of the normal list price $27.98

RENT soundtrack info (http://broadwayworld.com/viewcolumn.cfm?colid=4596)

The article also mentions the track listings so you can see which songs are cut out and to see how the changed the order for certain songs. It's basicaly the same except the placing of Seasons of Love and You'll See Boys is much earlier.

Trailer #2 also gets me teary! =) I'm so glad there are other people as hyped up about the movie as I am on the forum.

So does that mean things like "Happy New Year" and such aren't in the movie? Or maybe just not the soundtrack?

SOOOO hyped.

Muhliss
August 30th, 2005, 09:24 PM
I think just the song Happy New Year is cut out, but there is definitely a New Years scene in the movie. You can see it in the trailer when they're counting down.

I remember just missing it when they were in San Francisco filming that particular scene on Mission and 4th street.
