I think all of these skaters are great, but Michelle is the best. She is the most accomplished: 4 national titles, 3 world titles, an Olympic medal. And beyond those accomplishments, I believe she has a special uniqueness to her skating that makes her the best.

Though Michelle is clearly my favorite, I set this aside and look at this objectively and conclude she is truly the best.

I believe that greatness in sports comes from the ability to keep on competing and trying to be the best that you can be in your sport. To me the best person that represents that is Michelle. Although she never won Olympic gold she's competed at this level for about nine years and has not been lower than silver since 1996? To me that's amazing.

I picked Michelle b/c she is still competing and isn't giving up.
For Michelle to stay at the top like she has is amazing. I love it :) It has got to be hard and yet Michelle is still skating and having the time of her life.

I think it might be a little biased to ask this question at the MICHELLE KWAN Forum....:hat :lol

I also couldn't vote in this one either, so I'll just comment. Being a great ladies figure skater has more to do with just accomplishments. It also has to do with the skill and the love from their fans. If accomplishments were the only criteria, then Carol Heiss-Jenkins name would have been mentioned. Also, Sonja Heinie (who won 3 consecutive Olympic titles and 10 consecutive World titles).
I would have to pick someone that I never get tired of watching. Someone who is so breathtakingly beautiful on the ice that there is no doubt about her being the greatest skater. The person that I would pick never even won a World or Olympic title. My pick would be Janet Lynn.

I say you have to have the overall package the jumps and footwork artistry etc. I think in order to be in this category one you have to be great and have a mark on this sport along with titles. I also think longevity which takes off oksana and tara, dorothy as an possible answer. they obviously are superb skaters you dont just win the titles they have by not being at least good but greatest ever? nah. I think you also have to be a favorite. I mean how can an underdog be considered greatest ever. there is a reason why they are the underdog like tara and oksana in this poll are examples. so I would have MK, Lynn(only reason had no world and olympic titles was because of the unjust rules), Witt, Henie, as being part of this poll.

... :lol :lol :lol
Given the above choices, I voted for Michelle, of course, who is the equal of no other skater in history in terms of her abilities and accomplishments put together. However -- and don't kill me for this -- given the ability to name any skater I wanted, I would have named Janet Lynn; after all, Michelle's goal for the 1998 Olympic Games was to skate like her. She was truly in a class by herself, and it's a shame the rules were the way they were in her time.

Michelle Kwan is #1 in my book.
Michelle has a wonderful line, grace, elegance, beauty and a whole lot of talent. That is why the Great Miss Kwan ranks #1 with me.
GOD BLESS AMERICA
GOOD LUCK MK IN GOING FOR THE GOLD IN SLC!!!!!

Kristi Yamaguchi was a champion in both ladies and pairs. She also can still do a better 3lutz than many of our SLC hopefuls.

I had to think about this "?" a little bit. The other ladies (i.e.Yamaguchi and D.Hamill) were great; they each won an Olympic gold medal. But, I think with Michelle Kwan's perseverence, joys and some heartaches, and her incredible championship record: six national titles, four world titles, Olympic silver and bronze medals, etc., I'd have to choose Michelle. She the type of athlete who seems to never give up or keeps going. I think she still has a pretty good future ahead of her. Her grace and her wonderful smile are what makes her so unique and special; she's too irreplaceable.
MICHELLE KWAN, ALL THE WAY! NO. #1!

MK is my final answer as well.
Of ALL those skaters, Michelle has had the most masterpieces.
:RB :SP :MV :SAL :CH :SE
She has touched the hearts of millions. She has shown perseverence and courage. Her artistry is the most "real" of all the skaters. What do I mean by this? It seems to ME that the other skaters seem to be choreographed and beautiful (but unnatural). When Michelle skates, there seems to be no artiface there. She embodies the character, she becomes the music and she takes flight.:FL

I voted for Michelle. Yes I am a huge fan, yet I also love all the rest including Oksana Bauil to a great extent. However, I think all the rest of the field has made their mark and built on a career that they established by winning a Gold Medal at the Olympics. With Michelle, it seems as though every year she gives the figure skating community a new reason to love everything she does. I also feel that Michelle has given us time to get to know her and her skating. Tara was really only on the scene for three years before she won the gold, Oksana 2 years, Dororthy and Kristi were there much longer (yet I do not believe they were amateurs as long as Michelle.) For me, longevity is important.:RP

If you would have put Peggy Fleming I would have voted for her instead of Michelle - for the time she was skating she was just a bit above Michelle in terms of artistry.
