There has been much speculation in recent weeks, from both Democats and Republicans, about why Howard Dean has been shooting his mouth off about Republicans with some rather off-point criticisms.
It now appears that Dean is indeed crazy ... crazy like a fox. He finally goaded the No. 2 Republican in the nation, Vice President Dick Cheney, into making public statements (on Fox, how perfect!) that are even more childish and ridiculous than anything Dean has said:
" "I've never been able to understand his appeal. Maybe his mother loved him, but I've never met anybody who does. He's never won anything, as best I can tell," Cheney said in an interview to be aired today on Fox News Channel's Hannity & Colmes. Dean was elected governor of Vermont five times between 1992 and 2000. "
Pretty undignified comments from someone in a position that is much higher than chairman of the DNC ...
Four questions:
1. Since when does Dean's personal life and/or "love appeal" have anything to do with the important issues facing this nation?
2. Does Cheney really consider five terms as Vermont governor as having never won anything?
3. And if Cheney considers Dean to be that unimportant, why did he even bother to make a response?
4. Doesn't our Vice President have anything more important to talk about?

Lou Dobbs (CNN, 6pm et) had a poll on his show right after a few of Howard's comments and the overall high rating found Howard Dean to be both BOLD and EFFECTIVE.
Lou Dobbs comment after showing the poll at the end of his show was that maybe Dean was crazy 'like a fox'. Indeed.
I saw Howard Dean five times before the primaries. I have never seen people climb over the backs of chairs in an auditorium trying to get to shake hands with a POLITICIAN! But I saw it over and over again. Yep, he's bold, and some of us are right there with him.
Oh, another thing...he wears cheap suits. He's got more important things on his mind - US.
ps: He was raised as a republican, and worked on Wall Street as an investment broker before he decided it wasn't what he wanted, and enrolled in medical school.

I see nothing wrong with the Cheney statement. So what if he has a fact or two wrong???? Bulldog Dean is ranting and raving like a banshee and seems to realize cool fantasy/fiction is way more popular in the 21st century than documentary/non-fiction.All you need do is look at the ratings for the olde Star Wars or Star Trek movies in comparison to ratings for New and Live NASA and you'll see how fiction beats fact to death.Luke Skywalker Dean is on a roll and so now,Darth Vader Cheney needs to squash him. It's part of his job............5 times,eh? Now I'm trying to remember how many times that famous firebrand Democrat who stood in the U of Alabama doorway to stand up against the "tyranny of Big Brother" was elected Governor.Big Brother didn't sic the VP on Wallace. His DC nemisis was Attorney General Kennedy, the younger brother. And yes,it was obvious that Wallace felt like he had scored a huge-big touchdown everytime he got Robert's attention. Only time can tell if Dean has scored one on Cheney.

"I've never been able to understand his appeal. Maybe his mother loved him, but I've never met anybody who does."
Mike: fact, fiction or otherwise, doesn't it seem just plain goofy for a vice president to be speculating on
how many people love Howard Dean?

moxie,
MANY republicans are just plain worried about Howard Dean. Not only can he mobilize people nationally on short notice, but he can raise money in quick fashion, as he did during the brief primaries to the tune of $50 million.
Alas, it was the democrats that did him in, choosing the anointed one instead. And the rest is history.

Yes, indeed.
Kerry certainly wasn't my first choice from among those who were running ...

This is classic Cheney. First he drops the "F" bomb on a Senior Senator (also from Vermont), now he makes a "yo mama" type of comment. I guess the rules of common decency do not apply to him...:rolleyes

If Dean is so good at raising moiney, why is he way behind the Republicans with money being raised. He is not raising enough money for them, whereas the Republicans have raised quite a bit more that him.
You want to talk deceny about Republicans. geez, the dems dont know the meaning of the word decent. Starting with Dean.

Republicans have always outraised Dems. Dean has beat Terry McAuliffe's numbers for the last non election year anyway.
Republicans raise more money traditionally because their voters overall are more wealthy. That's a fact, you can verify it. Businessmen and corporations in particular heavily favor the Republican party in terms of contributions.

Maybe his mother loved him, but I've never met anybody who does. That isn't a "yo-momma" remark.Cheney didn't say anything bad about the man's mum.Hannity showed most of the interview on his show last night.I thought DC was cool.I'm not overly impressed with Dean either.Thank God the Deanomaniacs didn't get their wish for a Dean presidency.

Actually 8th,
Dean is not running in 2008. He has dedicated himself to re-building the democratic party from the grassroots up; in every state in the country.
As far as fund-raising goes, I just got my envelope - it seems they are just getting done to serious fund raising.
OH, and we are not called "Deanomaniacs" - the correct term is "Deaniacs"! And proud of it.
