...And a little frightened of who our dear President will pick as her replacement. This is a man who says that Clarence Thomas and Antonin Scalia are his templates.:x

Salute to O'Conner! :hat She is an icon. It will take a really good judge to fill that seat.I have condidence in our President to make a wise choice.

I can't say whether he'll choose someone I like, or not. Although if its someone extremely conservative, that'd be a definite not.

Nominate Michelle Kwan :lol ......the law stipulates that to sit on the Supreme Court one does not have to be a judge or even a lawyer for that matter. :eek

There was a humorous quote from some lobby that said....." The President could nominate George Washington and the democrats would reject him for his environmental record of chopping down a cherry tree."

This is going to be a heck of a fight.

It will only be a big fight if our President decides to ram a minion of the Far Right down our throats: Someone who will help to undo the concept of Roe v. Wade, recriminalize consensual sex, or help decide in a future case that Pharmacists don't have to issue Birth Control cuz it violates their religious beliefs.:rolleyes

The Prez has the opportunity once again to be "a Uniter not a Divider." Remember that line from his 2000 campaign? Will he choose someone mirrors the genreal populations' beliefs? O Will he squander it once again??

....." The President could nominate George Washington and the democrats would reject him for his environmental record of chopping down a cherry tree."

Based on the way my party has been fighting in response to the Bush Administration, I'd say that won't happen. :rolleyes The only two that seem to be firing back are Ted Kennedy and Howard Dean.

I like Sandra Day O'Connor, but I'm scared who her replacement is going to be.

Emerald -- this will certainly be the test for the Dems.

Olympic -- Bush's "uniter" statement has been hollow since he took office. So has his "compassionate conservative" statement.:rolleyes

I wish I could honestly say that this isn't scary, but I would be lying.

At some point, you just have to accept that national policy is going to be rather hopeless for the next couple of decades at least. Welcome to the Second Gilded Age! Sigh, the New Deal was fun while it lasted.

I highly suggest that all the progressives on this board become involved with local/state politics, save their money (cannot emphasize this enough) and accept the things that they cannot change.

The quote about George Washington was from a conservative lobbying group.

I am a Democrat but I don't see President Bush nominating Bill Clinton.

I saw it on the news and was instantly worried about who he was going to choose.

These are scary times and I am deathly afraid of the impact this will all have in the future.

The stopping of the killing of Babies, the stopping of executinG Persons convicted of a capital crime and denying homosexuals race/class status should prove to be a contentious issue(s).
