View Full Version : Trying to keep this section alive! Let's talk agreements!

I'm trying that maybe we can all come to a concensus on agreements that we can live with while we are here on this section. It seems that this section is pretty partisan and alot of people get heated and then they get personal. Is there a way we can make agreements that we can refer to now and then without censoring ourselves and without us bashing each other to death.

My suggestion for one!

1. Opinions not bash. Phrase comments about a politician's character in a way that you are making an opnion and not a statement. For example,

"I think President Bushton terrorizes more people on other countries."

rather than

"Bushton is an a$$hole terrorist who needs to be shot in other countries."

Well that's an extreme example, but I think there are agreements we can all make between all of us. Heather and Ashley, please don't giv eup on us yet. Give us a chance to solve this on our own...

I believe if people could stay away from personal attacks and name calling, in general, things would be fine.

Posting a link to an interesting article often encourages some discourse.

I did one (about drugs being confiscated and destroyed) and a few People got in on it with some observations. Maybe we should do some more.

Bashing fellow posters, whether I agree with them or not, as never been my cup of tea.

I don't know who has been pestering the unmods of this section, but whoever it is: if you want this forum shut down, just keep on bugging them. If you want the rest of us to be free to post our opinions, then leave the unmods alone, darn it! You don't need to get us all shut out here, do you? And if you can't stand the heat in this forum, well ... it's a kitchen! Run! Fly for your life! It's hot as Texas in here!

As for me, I have not bashed anyone, I have not gritched to the unmods, and I have not gone into otherside threads. I do post some in the leftie thread(s), but not a whole lot. I've got other places to express myself, among likeminded folks. But I like to be able to come here and participate, by reading and/or posting.

Now if I, one of the most opinionated people you know, can hold back and keep my acid tongue in check, surely all of y'all can, too!

So: all it takes is for everyone to make a conscious decision to behave. Just do it, okay?

Jerry - ITA -- I don't know who could possibly be bothering the moderators. If they are posters on the political threads they certainly should know the rules about bothering the moderators. :rolleyes If these are posters who just see something they don't like then they should steer clear of here... > Just behave as if you are watching televiision and turn the channel.

I didn't contact the moderators, and I don't think they should be down here moderating. After all this place is called Politics - Unmoderated.

Yes, and when posting, behave as if you WERE on television
-- maybe on one of those political talk shows.
If you wouldn't use certain language in a TV debate, don't use it here.

Pretend you're actually in a debate, in which people can certainly disagree strongly, but must be civil and polite while doing so.

It sounded like their problem is getting personal messages, not actually watching & moderating the content of threads.

moxie,
My understanding is that they (the mods) were not to be contacted w/complaints, either. So I haven't, and I can't think of anyone in the political discussions who may have, either. If the complaints came from someone who doesn't post here, well, I thought the whole deal was that they were just supposed to ignore us, and that's why RC and the Political sections are separate.

Also, there was to be a 3 month trial period. Are we past that now? I think so.

Right. They didn't want either complaints and/or personal messages. I also don't know where any of that could have been coming from lately, except for that one post with the bad language.

And in that case, any complaints would have been not about political disputes but about general standards of the board being violated (which should be watched even if the threads themselves are "unmoderated").

Well, I did complain about the use of what I thought was a pretty foul word for a family forum, but I did it IN the thread, and only said that the poster "might want to change it maybe". I didn't bother the mods with it. I also thought that we were unmoderated. And unless there was a very obvious outrageous troll, they frankly didn't want to be bothered by us over here! There have been a few "ify" moments but as far as I can tell they've all been resolved by the posters themselves. I'm not clear on what there was to complain about other than this ONE incident.

ITA Jerry! I leave threads that are distasteful to me.

My philosophy has always been to "turn the channel, leave a thread, etc." I've never complained to a moderator on any board. Figure it's the internet and "ya ain't goin' like" everything you read, so I just avoid crap when I see it.
