I've been following your story arc and it's funny how you included all the MKF posters in there like GMAN does in his stories. Just wondering though how many more parts there are going to be 'cause you can actually put all the parts in one topic like GMAN does. He gets over 600 posters reading it and he posts all his parts in one topic. It's easier that way 'cause people can easily read all the parts in one topic instead of having to go to another topic. Also, it saves space in the Fan Fiction area. Thanks.

mano
September 30th, 2000, 08:09 PM
no, you're won't be copycat for doing it. It's being space innovative or something to that effect. BTW, thanks for the offer about being in the contest, but right now I'm enjoying watching everybody else battle it out. It's funny. :)

Shouldnt the next round be floor skating. Garrett where are you, practice, practice, practice. Now since jkovner and GMAN are both ice skaters, I hope they will be strong in this event. :)

SL a reputable free lance journalist on f.s., floor skating and roller skating filed the following practice report.
From Sandie Lutzmoore:
Round 2 of the win MK contest is floor skating. Here are the 6.0 technical requirements: jump combination, axel jump, * an element into a solo jump, foot work, swan dive entry charlotte spiral, and an * in between element.
* one of the following choices: shoot the duck, back flip, spread eagle, ina bauer, besti squat
GMAN coached by skatingfan:
Garrett looked very strong with his jumps: 4t/3t, 3a, shoot the duck into 4s. His footwork lack a bit of speed otherwise fine. His swandive entry charlotte was SPECTACULAR, he chose shoot the duck as the inbetween element. He did his run through once, and spent most ot his time on the quad jumps. He practiced about 1000 shoot the duck.
Jkovner coached by Super Goo:
His jumps were also strong : 4t/2t, 3a, shoot the duck into 3s. Foot work is fantastic, he generated speed out of no where. The swandive entry charlotte was fine, not as secured as Garretts. Jkovner has the best musicality among the contestants.
u2 coached by LizD: Jumps : 3z/2t, 2a, shoot the duck into 2s. Footwork was not at Jk or Garrett's calibre. He too chose shoot the duck. His swandive entry charlotte was WONDERFULLY spectacular, almost a totally split. Strong and competitive program
Barang coached by Beth: same jump as u2, also chose shoot the duck. Footwork was relatively simple but secure, floor coverage was less than the above 3. Swan dive charlotte was insecure, fell over 5/6.0 tries.
Ansrwebgru coached by Felictiy: Same jump contend as u2 and Barang, also chose shoot the duck. Footwork was similar to Barang, simple and pleasant. The Swandive charotte again gave him a lot of problem.
SL's general impression is that Garrett should do more r/t , it was mostly quads, quads and more quads. But since judges heavily reward jumps, he will probably come first or second. JK is the complete floor skater. The other 3 guys are a toss up for third. SL was surprised that they all chose shoot the duck as connecting move and as the inbetween element . What happened to moves like back flip, ina, spread eagle and besti squat? SL tried to interview the floor skaters about this, and none of them were available. All their coaches gave the same answer, " no comment".
-----------------------------
Audience to Mk4ever, "when will the competition round 2 begin?"
BTW, the RULE: Only mk4ever is allowed to write about the outcome of the contest. So coaches, contestants, judges, referee, lurkers, mkforumers can not write about the outcome. :) ;)

October 5th, 2000, 08:32 PM
The lengthy report above was the morning practice report. SL went back and watched the afternoon practice and made some observations.
Beth was cracking her whip, literally was holding one in her hands threatening Barang. Poor Barang had so much pressure that he fell on all his swandive charlotte attempts. He finally told Beth, " I feel like throwing up, please let me take the rest of the afternoon off. "
Garrett did not even do one single r/t in the afternoon, it was quads, quads, and more quads. Poor skatingfan was pleaing with him, "son, you need to do more r/t, remember you can only win with the whole package." Garrett did not hear a single word. He kept on doing the quads, and of course more shoot the duck.
Super Goo had the easiest time among the coaches, JK was right on target doing r/t and his program had the best balance of tech and artistry.
Ansrwebgru made some improvement on the swandive charlotte. Felicity was talking with Michellesmom, asking about what judges were looking for in a program.
The most improved floor skater was u2. He upgraded his shoot the duck into 2s to a shoot the duck into 3z. WOW how did that happen?
SL noticed that all the floor skaters put the swandive charlotte at the end of the program, why? SL was not going to let the floor skaters get away w/o an interview, so she hurried on over u2's corner, since he was the one who made the most improvement.
SL, "u2, good practice session, you upgraded your jump."
u2, "yes Liz my coach told me I have to land it or else she too will get a whip."
SL, " So that was the key to your improvement?"
u2, "That plus my diet ."
Sl, "what did you eat today."
u2, " Duck for breakfast and lunch."
Liz saw SL was interviewing her skater, and she did not want u2 to give away too much of their practice secret, quickly walked over and took u2 away. All the coaches did the same. Of course Barang tried to sneak away long time ago, everyone heard Beth shouting, "Barang you get back here to practice." Barang did not heed Beth, so she chased after him with her whip in hand. SL said to herself, oh well to be continued tomorrow.

Beth was worried about Barang, it had been 2 days, since he won the bronze in the contest. Garret asked him to be his best man after the contest, Barang agreed but confided in Beth that his heart was broken. Beth being the full time coach and part time mom to Barang flew him back to Atlanta GA, and treated him to her home cook meals chicken soup and all to mend his broken heart. Beth has plans to introdce Barang to some of the prettiest single ladies in her church. Barang still did not have much sign of being cheered up. So Beth tried some strong herbal tea, a family recipe. Barang drank the tea and fell asleep, he slept for more than a day.
Beth was worried so she knocked at the door to his room, no answer, she went in and found him smiling and talking in his dream. He kept saying "I do". Beth knew that Barang must be dreaming about his wedding with Michelle...........
To be continued

Time flies, BEth introduced Barang to a very pretty and nice Christian girl in her church, and Barang fell instantly in love and got engaged, he forgotten all about Michelle. When Gman called and reminded him to be his best man for his wedding to Michelle, Barang asked Gman, 'Michelle who?"
Then Beth has a bright idea, why not a double wedding. Planning a double wedding is so much work that BEth fainted the day of the rehearsal, so MK and BArang's fiancee rushed to Beths home to attend to her.
Barang then decided to show up at rehearsal and teased gman a bit. For the rest of Barangs teasing we read in the above message from Barang. ;)
Barang, please do not try to ruin mk4ever's story, s/he did not interfere with yours. :) Otherwise Beth will come after you with 2 whips. ;) :)

story #1
wedding scene....
minister-do you michelle kwan take... (interruption by
barang)
barang- barang as your lawful husband?
michelle- yes i do.
gman- who said that? never mind that minister, let's
continue the ceremony.
minister- do you....(interruption by barang again)
barang- barang take michelle as your lawful wife?
gman- who's keep on interrrupting? minister, let's
just ignore who ever that is.
barang- yes i do.
gman- who's that again, ah! never mind.
minister- okay, you may now kiss the bride.
no sooner than the minister finished his sentence,
barang came running up and pushed gman aside and
lifted up michelle's veil and kissed her.
gman- hey barang! what's the big idea of you kissing
my wife?
barang- what are you talking about, she's married to
me now.
the minister step in and cleared the confusion.
minister- gman, barang is michelle's legal husband.
gman- but why, i was with her at the altar?
minister- true but she said i do to barang when i
asked her if she'll take barang as her legal husband.
gman- but that was barang interrupting our wedding and
keep inserting his name just before you mention my
name.
minister- exactly, and you didn't object so she is now
legally married to barang.
gman- waaaaaaaaaaa!!!!!!!!
*barang blows a raspberry at GMan*
michelle-barang honey! let's go get the reception ready!

I vote for Baroque, but please consider substituting JS Bach's Air in G string or Sheep may safely graze for the Pacabell?
Package: 4 Plum Blossom Dreams
Processional: Adagio of the 4 goddess (from Gliere's Red Poppy)
Bridal Processional: Butterfly Lovers Violin Concerto (theme of the lovers)
Recessional: Prelude to Yellow River Canata ( a bit of a stretch) :)
BTW, are you ready to buy the cds yet?
K99, I think not only you should play in her wedding, maybe you should consider as replacing yours truly as the music consultant to Littlepebbles production of Ice to Ice ( story of MK and PK). :) I am willing to give up my pay check and recommend you. B/C only the best for our girl. :)

Thank you for your help and advice, skatingfan!
I am truly flattered to be recommended as your replacement, but I couldn't take your job and paycheck!
:eek I can, however, work as a part-time consultant on a temporary basis in conjunction with your main consulting. But your years of experience in the field and on the job certainly cannot be replaced ;) that easily.
BTW, contracts are being negotiated with Amelia, Scheherezade and violin to complete the quartet for MK and G-Man's wedding (cello, violins1&2, respectively. It's nice getting to switch to viola once in a while). Oh, there's also talk of expanding this to a chamber orchestra, so KeithB, angelofmine223 and Mordecai71 are being consulted as well.
With respects to buying those cds, I think I'm going to wait until after Christmas to see how the funds situation is! :lol

What do you mean by contracts being negotiated with Amelia, Schery and "violin", do you mean HeatherV23, aka red background Heather who is a violinist?
Expanding this to an chamber orchestra is wonderful! :)
I still vote for baroque
Since I am here having fun I have further suggestions:
Suggestion#5 : Celeste Michelle ( aka move over Aida ) :lol
Processional: Interlude from Rusticana Caverlleri
Bridal Processional: Celeste Aida
Recessional: From La Traviata ( you know that group eat, drink and be merry song)
Now everything here at MKF is not complete without hitting a 6.0 :)
So for suggestion 6.0 :
K99 was busy semi buried in the medicmicro notes and a copy of a Dentist guide to out smarting the Dental HMOs, when the phone rang.:lol
Gman, "Hi, K99, I need help with the wedding music, and my coach skatingfan told me to call you"
K99, " Garrett, you found the right expert, but first thing first we need to talk about my honorarium."
Gman," I am penniless currently, do you take an I owe you?"
K99," No I am in school, and I need the $"
Gman, " How about I name my first born after you, even if my first born is a girl!"
K99, " OK, and only if I can be godfather to all your children.
Gman, " Wonderful, now K99, I was reading the suggestions in the wedding thread, and I want some different kind of music."
K99, " What do you have in mind ?"
Gman, "The carpenters' Close to you, I'm on the top of the world and We have only just begun."
K99 almost threw up, and quietly thought, oh no MK is going to marry this guy who loves the Carpenters! Well, the more important that I should be the godfather to his children, to help them cultivate a love of the great violinists like Nigel Kennedy, and Vanessas Mae! ;)
K99, "Well, I will try to transcribe the Carpenter music for the chamber orchestra then."
Gman, " No, not a chamber music version of the Carpenters, I want you to sing those songs, but in the background, out of sight, and let me lip sing it to MK."
K99, " No way! I don't care if you name all your girls after me!"
Gman was becoming desperate. Lucky for him his coach, skatingfan dropped by for a visit, and saw that Garrett was in great distress.
Skatingfan, "Garrett, who are you talking to, you look worried"
Gman, "K99, he won't agree to let me lip sing the Carpenters to Michelle."
Skatingfan talked to K99 on the phone and found out what happened.
Skatingfan to both Gman and K99, " K99 help Garrett out please, but only do this in the rehearsal. For the real wedding Garrett you have to let the MKF online vote for one of the packages!"
K99, "There is no way I will sing the Carpenters!"
Skatingfan, "Will you consider it if Garrett promise to let all his children learn violin and viola before they even learn how to walk?"
K99, "OK coach skatingfan"
After the phone conversation K99 was scratching his head, and thought what have I done! Now I have to shop for a Karioke ( spelling machine). Oh well, at least I can take a break from study now.

What skatingfan and Gman did not know is that K99 actually is a huge Karaoke fan. He even auditioned unsuccessfully for a role as an extra in the karaoke movie, DUETS, with Gwyneth Paltrow. What a disappointment that was. This was his BIG second chance, but he was going to need some help on this one... Could he and Gman pull this one off? Would Gman be exposed as a lip-syncher?

So back to the story.
Klier99 looked high and low for a karaoke machine and recordings of the Carpenters' accompaniment for "Close to you, I'm on the top of the world and We have only just begun." Unfortunately, all he could find were 8 tracks of the released versions with Karen Carpenter's solo voice.
"I'm sho sorry, sir, these 'r all we got," said the rental store manager. "Howeva, since this IS for Meeshell Kwan, I'm a gonna hep you out a bit."
The elderly gentleman disappeared behind the counter and into a back room to reappear shortly. In his hands were some old, tattered sheets of paper tied together with some frayed string.
"These, sir, are O-rignal scores that Karen Carpenter left wi' me many years ago for safe-keeping." He slowly proceeded to blow the thin layer of dust off the top sheets and gently untied the strings.
"You rememba she had some drug probbums and tried to stawve herself?" he asked, half mumbling to himself. "Way'll, she kinda got herself in some debt. With all dem creditows afteh her, she left these w' me for safe-keepin'... You know, I'ze her dentist a long time back, but sold the practice to ma daughtuh aftuh I retired and hepped out hea at ma wife's store."
The aged gentleman proceeded to ramble on as he leafed through the pages.
"These music sheets are the O-kestal pawts for thayu hits, 'Top of the world,' 'We've only just begun,' and 'Close to You.'" He proceeded to put on a rectangular-framed set of reading glasses and pointed to some scribbled scrawlings on a page corner of the scores.
"You know these AWE O-rignal's, dontcha? See hea, Karen even signed 'em befo' she left 'em w' ma wife. So ya make sho ya take good care of 'em, ya hea?"
Dazed and awestruck, Klier99 thanked the old dentist and headed out the door. Now all he had to do was try to get copies of the parts to the contracted orchestra members and practice up the solo lines.
Things were not going well with rehearsals, though. Not being blessed with a very wide vocal range, Klier99 was struggling a bit with the higher notes. ...The problems of a designated 2nd tenor trying to sing Karen's mezzo-range lines... That wasn't the LEAST of the problems, however. The orchestral musicians were not taking this seriously, either.
"I am a CLASSICAL cellist!" Amelia exclaimed, "How do you expect me to play this 70's pop-fluff?"
"WHAT vibrato?!" Angelofmine223 added in a shocked tone, "Any self-respecting, classically-trained clarinetist won't reduce themselves to USING that technique!"
At least the violinists were happy, though. As usual, the orchestral writing left them with the lion's share of the melody, and they fiddled away without any regard to Mordecai71's conducting and tempos.
"If I have to put up with these prima-donna's any more," he grunted, "you're going to have to find another conductor."
The bickering got to the point that it seemed everything would fall into shambles. It looked like a disaster in the making until Michelle Kwan, herself, stopped by the studio to see how things were going.
"Listen guys. You're just going to have to put these petty problems aside and GO FOR IT! We can't think about competing against others, but we've only got to prove this TO OURSELVES that we can do it. It's definitely time to UP THE ANTE. Don't think you're better than anyone else, because you're not. Look, this is for the man I love, and if you can't do this for me, can you at least try to do this for him? It would mean so much to both of us." The room fell silent, and the orchestra seemed to realize the importance of this moment for Michelle. This was a once-in-a-lifetime event for Michelle, and they certainly were NOT going to let her down. "Good. That's the idea." Michelle smiled again (she finally had some braces removed to correct her anterior maxillary crowding, and was so glad to be done with her orthodontic treatment). Unfortunately, she didn't have time to talk for long, but flashed her beautiful smile, wiggled her ear, and rushed out the door. (She was already late for her 8:30 a.m. practice session with Frank, and those 3salchow/3loop combinations certainly weren't going to make themselves happen...)
Well, the first wedding rehearsal rolled around, and Gman was shaking with excitement. As the orchestral introduction to "We've only just begun" began, his face suddenly dropped. He realized that he had forgotten the lines! Now what? Klier99 was about to begin with the first line when Gman spotted, out of the corner of his eye, a prompter holding up flash-signs with the lyrics from some of the pews behind Michelle.
"Phew! What a relief!" he thought to himself, as he, having regained his confidence, pretended to belt out the lines.
"Who was that lady?" He thought to himself. "God bless her, whoever she was!" The face seemed vaguely familiar, but it wasn't until the rehearsal dinner when she proceeded to bring out prescription pill bottle after pill bottle, that he remembered who this "medicated one" was. It was none other than MANO, herself!
[Okay, so now I REALLY have to get back to studying, but I'll try to continue this later!]

The aroma from the kitchen was exquisite and was enough to make anyone's mouth water. Just as the waiters were bringing out the rolls and salads, the minister stood up to say a short prayer of thanksgiving. A slight look of nervousness came over G-man. Maybe it was just the realization of what an important day this was going to be. Maybe it was the thought of forgetting the lines of those Carpenters' songs he wanted to sing for Michelle. Maybe it was the fear of someone barging in unexpectedly to stop the wedding. What if barang suddenly appeared again? What would he do? But let's be serious about this, people. It was probably just the fear of contracting Mad Cow Disease from the filet mignons that were about to be served!
The tinkling of glasses could be heard throughout the elegant French restaurant as Michelle stood up to make a toast. "I just wanted to thank you all," she began as she held up her sparkling burgundy wine glass "for all of the support you have given G-man and myself. I know there's a lot to be nervous about tomorrow, but we just need to go out there and have fun. Pretend like we're going through this just as in practice."
The rest of dinner went by smoothly and Michelle and G-man couldn't have looked happier... or more nervous...
************
I'm getting a case of writer's block. Well, maybe this is too big of a thing for me to write about. I'd feel badly writing about your "big day," G-man, and since I don't know you, it really wouldn't be my place to do so. Okay, so maybe I'm backing out of this :)
But if anyone would like to pick this up, please, by all means do so!

Well, there was a last minute change in the wedding plans: The minister agreed to perform the wedding ceremony in an ice rink. An anonymous benefactor in Seattle donated the use of her estate's private ice rink to Michelle for the wedding. Sources indicate that fashion designer, Vera Wang, had convinced this wealthy CEO to reserve her ice rink for the day. Vera Wang, famous for her "brides on skates" images, had designed an original wedding dress for Ms. Kwan: simple, elegant and flowing lines. She wanted to capture Michelle's pure edges and grace in the design of the dress, to emphasize her smooth flow over the ice yet retain enough mobility to prevent any physical restrictions -- don't ask me how, but you get the idea, right? I think there was some form of a hoop used to prevent the dress from getting caught up in the skates, but I'm not exactly sure how this works.
One wall along the entire length of the rink was almost completely glass -- the tall, wide windows overlooked a cultivated English garden through which a babbling brook ran. The high, vaulted ceiling created cathedral-like acoustics, perfect for a chamber orchestra which would be seated on the opposite side of the rink, on a stage similar to the aristocratic ballrooms of Austria. The finest Orchids and Irises of Vancouver Island in British Columbia were shipped in specifically for the wedding.
The orchestra arrived early to rehearse the music, dressed in tails and the finest ballroom gowns that one might see in a New Year's Ball. Mordecai71 looked dapper in his tux and white gloves, although they made it a bit more difficult to grasp the baton. On a couple occasions the baton had slipped out of his covered fingers only to clank against Amelia's end pin. That brings us to the cello section... Beautiful as they were, the gowns certainly made cello playing a bit more complicated, which was eventually solved by the ever-resourceful Amelia, "If I may suggest to the ladies," she began in her elegant European mannerisms, "it might be simpler to remove these hoops if we are to balance our cellos in a more dignified manner..." That problem solved, and with a little bit of sticky wax and rosin on Mordecai's gloved fingertips, the orchestra looked to be in pretty good shape... except for angelofmine223, who was frantically searching for her box of reeds. Apparently one of the caterers had picked them up, mistaking them for bamboo shoots that chef had requested. The wedding guests were in for a crunchy surprise at the dinner reception, but that's a later story! Luckily Mordecai71 had some extra VanDoren 3.5's in his briefcase.
Now back to the wedding prelude: Although Silverstein and Pekarek were no longer competing together, they made it a special point to put together a program for Michelle's and G-Man's wedding. Elegant as ever, Jamie and Justin twirled across the ice as floating wisps of notes from Waldteufel's "Skater's Waltz" echoed throughout the rink.
**************
...Now G-man was only scheduled to lip-synch Carpenters' tunes during the rehearsal, so I don't have to worry about putting that in here, right? Okay.
**************
G-man looked as handsome as ever in his tux as he, Ron Kwan and the ushers, glided out to center ice to join the minister before the altar. Karen Kwan, simply stunning in her maid-of-honor's gown (also designed by Vera Wang to compliment her long lines) was exquisite as she and the bridesmaids one-by-one floated across the ice to Bach's celebrated Air.
**************
Du Pre's peformance of the Elgar cello concerto is absolute perfection -- just got a recording for Christmas. Anyway, back to the story...
**************
Not feeling too confident about skating his daughter down the aisle, Danny Kwan accompanied Michelle as he walked along a red carpet that the ushers rolled out for him. Michelle was gorgeous in her wedding dress. It was almost as if time stood still or went by in slow-motion as Michelle gracefully glided across the ice to Bach's Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring. The noble, pure tone of KeithB's trumpet filled the arena as if all the choirs of Angels in Heaven were singing. (My sincerest apologies if you aren't a trumpeter, KeithB -- please fill in whichever instrument is appropriate).
The whole wedding went by as if in a dream...
"Do you, G-man, take this woman, Michelle Kwan, to be your lawfully wedded wife..." the minister asked.
G-man, overcome with emotion, answered, "I do" with trembling voice as tears of joy ran down both his and Michelle's faces. They had been through so much already, and could not believe that this day had finally come true.
"And do you, Michelle, take this man, G-man, to be your lawfully wedded husband..."
"I do!" she said, trying desperately to hold back further tears...
There was not a dry eye in the assembly when the minister finally announced, "I now pronounce you man and wife! You may kiss the bride..."
One would have thought Michelle and G-man were Olympic speed skaters as they quickly recessed down the aisle to the grandiose Hornpipe from Handel's Water Music.

Okay, so now I'll have to figure out what happened to those clarinet reeds and bamboo shoots with the chef in my next post...

Salads, soups, hour'doevres (sp), finger sandwiches, spring rolls, caviar, sushi, filet mignon, chicken cordon bleu, french rolls, patte, hummus, and every variety of gourmet delight were served. Course after course were brought out by the "tuxedoed" waiters and waitresses as they deftly swirled trays in the air, skating from table to table. [You knew the reception was going to be held on ice, too, didn't you?] Amazingly, not a single toepick was tripped over or any serving dish spilled. Hectic as it may have seemed in the kitchen, things amazingly came together without a hitch... almost...
Remember angelofmine's stolen clarinet reeds? Well, one of the cooks didn't catch that mistake in time, thinking they were bamboo shoots, and so they ended up in the stir-fry. It wasn't until some of the guests started complaining about some undercooked vegetables that the high-fiber delicacies were carefully gleaned from dish after dish of not-so-mushy moo-goo-gai-pan.
What could the chef have been thinking? How could such a simple mistake be overlooked in the kitchen? Didn't he taste each dish individually before serving? Well, I must put in a good word for monseiur chef. Touted for his excellent culinary skill and innovation, he was one of the most sought-after gourmet chefs in Seattle. But alas, even the greatest of chefs are only human, and this human had become infatuated. She was the most perfect angel he had ever laid his eyes on (...well, second only to Michelle Kwan...) and ever since he had seen her at church reading a scriptural passage from the lectern, he was totally captivated. He first noticed her almost a year ago, but it wasn't until the past few months that he had been unable to put her out of his mind. Not a day went by that he didn't think of her angelic voice, so tender and pure, or recall her beautiful flaxen hair falling in soft waves down her marble-sculptured shoulders, her soft eyes, so innocent and sweet. Her face, a masterpiece that could even eclipse the perfection of the legendary Helene of Troy, who's face had purportedly launched a thousand ships, haunted his thoughts day in and day out. How could he, a simple chef, approach such an "Aphrodite?" Would he even be worthy to occupy a moment of her heavenly time? So many times he had seen her by the Journalism department or in the mall or waiting for the bus, but not once had he summoned the courage to approach her. Surely such a woman would not be one to know loneliness, but oddly enough, he had never seen her with anyone else. Even in church she would sit alone by the pews, as he gazed on her heavenly form from the choir, violin in hand. Every note he played was for her, desperately hoping that if he could move her, even just a bit, with his music, that she would take notice. Was this a sin to play for her alone, even though he played for the entire congregation during the liturgy? Was it a sin to play with her in mind, instead of prayers that the assembly was singing? He MUST find a way to approach her, but finding an excuse to do so was the most difficult job he had ever been challenged with. How does one approach a dove without scaring it away? This obsession of his had even driven him to change around his schedule, just in the hopes of being able gaze once more upon her, even if only from afar. Others might have thought he had become more fervent in his belief and faith, attending 2 services on Sunday instead of one -- the one he normally played at, and another one later in the day that she usually attended. He played at every Holy day that he could, in hopes of seeing her there again. Alas, for all of this longing, he still did not know her name, her major, or anything else except for her readings that she read every Sunday...

Ahh, for all of his longing, the chef would have to swallow his disappointment like bitter herbs. How cruelly ironic was this, that he had become Berlioz' tormented artist brought to life through his programmatic symphony, Symphonie Fantastique. There it was, a grand ball, put together anually by his church, where the artist saw his heart's love from across the room, so radiant, so stunning. Overloaded with catering and restaurant commitments, the chef had not intended on going, but attended anyway in the hopes of seeing his heart's desire. Several times he past her, trying to find the right moment to speak to her without scaring her away like a startled song bird. Finally, having taken leave of his friends for a moment, he approached her to boldly introduce himself. That angelic voice, her sweet face, so tender and pure, were a sight to behold. Enchanted by her docile gray eyes, the chef found himself searching for words, and after a brief (albeit amicable) conversation, departed, for fear of being lost for conversation. All evening long he would glance across the room for another glimpse of her, brain-storming for new excuses or reasons to speak to her again. But alas, his fears were soon confirmed as he noticed her more and more often captivated in the company of a gentleman by whom she had been escorted. Those soft gray eyes were not his, but remained fixed upon her companion. Her sweet face smiled not for him, but for her escort. Her voice spoke not to him, but to this other gentleman. Although he never saw her embrace this man, her demeanor was enough to let him know that she was already taken. Reluctantly he drove home, knowing that he would have to wait, to put her out of his mind, to focus on his jobs at hand, and perhaps to look elsewhere even though his heart belonged to one that he could not have. The melodic strains of a waltz drifted to his ears from the car radio. It was Berlioz, and the unfortunate character from the music was all too familiar...
Meanwhile, the chef had once again been called upon by Michelle Kwan for another catering job: the wedding of her sister, Karen and a Mr. Peter Oppegard. Apparently the sauteed clarinet reeds had long been forgotten...
