OK, folks, you've heard me talk about them, here's your chance to win a free one. (I'm posting here because the trolls are less likely to come here, and all trolls should by law be tivoless.) Tivo is giving away 10 free Tivos a day based on an essay contest. You can only enter once per person or household, you're limited to 250 words (they mean it), and the contest is not open to residents of certain states (AZ, FL, etc.) which have contest restrictions. If you win, you will receive an e-mail letting you know, and you have 72 hours to claim your Tivo. In order to claim it, you must sign up for at least a mandatory one month subscription fee ($9.95), although you could sign up for yearly or lifetime service if you wanted, but after that, you can cancel and just use it as a digital VCR.
The topic is why you should get a Tivo (they're the 14 hour models, by the way). The essays are judged based on (1) mentioning Tivo exclusive functions, (2) creativity and originality (I figure Mano is a lock on this one), and (3) sense of humor. In the event of a tie-breaker, (1) is most important, (2) second and (3) third. You've all heard me mention the basic functions, like digital recording, pausing of live TV, the 30 minute buffer (where Tivo records everything you watch and keeps 30 minutes in the memory buffer), fast forwarding at 60x through commercials, etc., but here is a basic description of the functions/features EXCLUSIVE to Tivo:
