Here is the conclusion to my fantasy of the 2002 Salt Lake City Olympics. Be sure to read the long program part posted in a different thread here first! Enjoy! I tried to be poetic here so forgive me if it sounds corny :-) ******************************************** "Please welcome your 2002 Olympic Ladies Gold Medalist, MICHELLE KWAN!" Michelle stepped onto the ice, bowed deeply to the crowd, and skated to the podium. Her heart was in her throat as she stepped onto the top. The claps, shouts, and whistles were almost deafening. She had dreamed about what this moment would be like since she was seven years old but who could have really imagained the intensity, or the joy. She leaned forward as the presenter slipped the red, white, and blue ribbon around her neck. She caught the dangling medal in her cupped hands and stared at it. There it was shining under the bright lights. It finally belonged to her. The key to that elusive, exclusive club of United States Ladies Olympic champions. She was the seventh. Lucky number she thought to herself as she held the medal up to the crowd. Flashbulbs made a fireworks display in her honor. ********************************************* Choosing an exhibition piece had been perhaps the hardest task of preparing for these Olympic games. What music could express her feelings of gratitude and joy at having reached this moment in a dream held for so many years. She finally decided that it had to be "East of Eden," her signature masterpiece. The music steadily flowed through highs and lows in a continuous progression to its rapturous completion. And hadn't she? The music began and it welled up within her soul until her face became luminous peace. Familiar music and yet somehow different. Light sparkled from the gold trim of her white satin spaghetti strapped skating dress. She was a diamond, an angel, a swan, a cloud, the wind. The announcers gave up on finding the right words as words were so inadequate to describe the ethereal grace that was her skating. They just sighed and lost themselves in the moment. A moment that was to be remembered for an eternity. ***************** Thanks to all for their compliments which encouraged me as I completed my story! That was sooo beautiful! Wonderfully poetic. Wow you should send this to her. I think this was my favorite installment! My favorite lines: "Flashbulbs made a fireworks display in her honor." "The music steadily flowed through highs and lows in a continuous progression to its rapturous completion. And hadn't she? " "The announcers gave up on finding the right words as words were so inadequate to describe the ethereal grace that was her skating. They just sighed and lost themselves in the moment."

You picked all of my favorite lines :-) Thanks! The picture I can see most clearly in my head is her cupping the gold medal in her hands and staring at it.

Wish it were longer. BTW, the flashbulbs reminded me of how the '96 Olys ended with a "wave of flashbulbs" from one end of the stadium to the other. Nice to see something like that for MK. But it is the truth when MK performed for COI, there was a multitudes of Flashbulbs going on when she performed, mine included. As for the exhibition, I think she should have an encore after EOE and perform her Rach short from '98 and another encore to showcase new stuff. Can never have too many encores from MK. Again, wonderful story.

I totally love the book cover. AWESOME! I agree that she should have at least ten encores. One I was thinking of would be "Stars and Stripes Forever" by John Sousa. Then the judges will have to give her sevens. I will try to post the earlier parts if I have a chance. I can e-mail them as attachments to any one that is interested if you write me at mbush@bgnet.bgsu.edu Sometime this fall I will get a web page and post the whole story in one place!
