We have been discussing what we adults should be wearing at my rink! Some ladies think we should all wear dresses/skirts and others are all for sweats and a t-shirt. I was curious as to what all of you wear!

I used to wear whatever. Like baggy jeans and a sweater to keep me warm. Then I got the blade caught in my pant leg on a jump and wiped out REAL bad....after that I was all about warm up pants. I think dresses are kind of a dangerous thing to wear on the ice. You never know what might happen.

I did the same thing once- wiping out cause of my pants. But anyways, for practice, you should wear either strech pants or a practice dress/skirt, or a pair of tights and spandex shorts. I'm only 14 though, so most people don't give me wierd looks when i wear a skating dress, it also helps that I really look like i'm 11<!--EZCODE EMOTICON START :lol --><img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/laugh.gif ALT=":lol"><!--EZCODE EMOTICON STOP--> !

For those of you who wear skating tights... Do they actually keep you warm?
Like many other adult skaters, I too am facing the dilemma of what to wear at practice. I just feel a little exposed in skating dresses, but sweats are often so bulky I feel like a snowman plowing across the rink.
I've thought about getting a practice dress, but it just seems like you would freeze out there on the ice with a dress and tights.

I always wear stretch pants and whatever top i feel like wearing. i don't wear dresses unless i'm forced to (i.e. competitions, testing, etc.) At my age (16) i feel kinda akward when wearing dresses just to practice, but i guess since i already look like i'm 12, it wouldn't hurt. i don't think it really matters. i've seen plenty of people my age and older wearing dresses, and it looks fine on them. i just don't like dresses on me. i still like my favorite dark gray stretch pants that i wear everytime i go to practice (they get washed of course):) and i don't like it when my mom tries to tell me to wear anything else (read this week's skating lessons thread and you'll see why). Anyways, that's pretty much all that i wear.

i'm 27 and have JUST started skating... i can barely stand so getting caught up in my sweats while practicing jumps is not even a concern at this point. i'm layering with long johns and sweats at this point...but i see more advance adults wearing thinner leggings or sweats or even modest dresses. i think the more advance you get, the less silly you feel wearing those dresses.

When I used to skate, i would ALWAYS see adult women wearing dresses/skirts. It's totally acceptable, totally cool. I always wore skating tights, footless tights over them (Tara actually used to wear them in competition, in '96, at least...if you have a Nat'ls tape, you can check 'em out there), and a sleeveless dress. I'd layer of course, but once I got into the nitty gritty, I'd always be SWEATING!! So as you advance, you'll see that it is very easy to dress "scantily", if you'll excuse the word. Layering is the best option, and dressing with clothes that hug your body once you are spinning/jumping/working on footwork will be essential. You'll find that you'll move faster, and be able to feel your moves better. Hope this (somewhat) helps!! :)

I'm with the pants folks. I'm 25 and feel strange wearing dresses. Once in awhile though I'll wear a warap around skirt with a leotard and tights. When summer comes the rink I skate at tends to get really warm so then I usually wear bike shorts, a T-shirt and thin tights. Sweats are too baggy for me and I'm afraid I'll get caught up in them. The thing about dresses I don't like is they show off the butt and I really don't want anyone looking there.

I wear a dress and tights but also have a shirt and sweatshirt on that I take off as I warm up. This is what most people at my club wear although some wear exercise pants and shirts/leotards

hi all... a quick ? since i'm just starting... iwanted to buy some protective shorts... the ones where they have the padding for your hips and your tailbone. i found one on sandra loosemore's pro-shop ... but it looked kind of bulky... i was wondering if there is one that you guys could recommend. are there ones filled with gel?

I LOVE to wear my skate dresses :D They make you FEEL like a skater. I like the over the boot tights or the velro stirrup tights. I get too many blisters to wear the footed ones. I'm always stuffing little pads in my skate socks (ankle length trouser socks that is!) when a little blister appears.
Sometimes I'll wear stretchie pants and a big T-shirt when I'm just not comfy in a dress--which is RARE :)

I usually wear a t-shirt that's not too big, and black leggings. If I do wear a dress, it's a plain flat skirt black one and I keep a shirt over it, I like a more athletic look i guess :)

Guys, I can't stress this enough. When you're moving up there in USFSA or ISIA, for the ladies, start wearing tights! Believe me, I know. While socks may protect your ankles and feet a bit more (mine are still really funny looking), You really won't be wearing the right size skates with them. Plus, all the bulk in your boots will really prevent you from moving your feet as freely as you'd like to. Let the skate mold to your foot. Of course, be very cautious of cysts and cuts and bruises and everything (had 'em all). Protect any part of your foot that has become injured in any way, even if you might think it is minor. But tights, for any semi-serious skater, are essential.

I'm on a synchronized skating team and up to five days a week we are forced to wear thin lace dresses and tights, even when you can see your breath at the rink. Know what? I got used to it. And it's good too, especially when you go to a competition and aren't cold which can affect your performance. Also, when you wera baggy clothing not only is it dangerous, but you also can't check your form as easily or accurately.

I just wear skating pants that are skin tight and loop under the boot. Usually I wear a sweater over a T-shirt for cold and hot days.

for comp. I wear my skating outfit and for practice I hear black leggings and a 3 quarter length black shirt that shows my belly it is just like Tara Lipinski's.:) When my feet are really cold I wear my feet warmers:)

hehe, i hate wearing skatings skirts, but i've noticed that you jump better with a skirt so I usually wear khaki shorts and sometimes stretchable capris.

So I don't have any fancy stuff but I always wear some leggings (they're warm and when you fall the ice isn't as cold) and some windbreaker-type pants over them (it doesn't get as wet plus it doesn't snag on the hockey ruts when I go splat :) ) Top is usually sweatshirt..
The more serious skaters at my rink wear leggings, while the young girls have the tights and skirt thing going...

I wear a long sleeved red dress and tights over the boot tights with my dress and my skates. Sometimes I'll wear a bun, or put on mascara, chapstick, lipliner, and lipstick. Usually I wear a ponytail, although I like to wear a bun and I like to wear make-up, so I don't look so tired.
