For those of you who skate, i have one question, how long were you in rental skates before having your own skates?
I've been in rental skates for 7 months :) but I'm getting my own skates really soon, after this holiday, thank God. You can't imagine how hard it is to practice with rental skates!
I even saw some beginners who are trying to do toe loops with rental skates on!
wow.....how can they land it on those skates?
I'm just curious, cos i think I'm the only person to skate on rental boots for such a long time :)

When I went to my first ever learn to skate class, I had those crummy thirty dollar Sportmart skates on. My instructor took one look at me and said, "You need regular skates" and well, that was that. She was the kind of person you really couldn't argue with. :)

I've seen people who haven't skated in awhile come back and still be able to do jumps in rentals, though. (A girl I knew who skated as a youngster couls still pull off a loop and salchow in hers!) The best option is always your own skates, though, as not only do they offer better support but after awhile they start to mold to the proportions of your foot and keep your feet from moving around as much as they would in a general skate, something that will help in learning things like jumps and spins much faster.
