Hello again all!
Well, Saturday's practice went great -- I did run-through of the new-improved program, and landed everything -- a lutz/toe/ballet jump, a waltz/half loop/toe, and a toe/loop. I am hoping the toe/loop will again become a flip/loop, once I get the jump back.
We tried some flips on Sunday for the first time in 3 1/2 weeks, to my surprise they did not hurt my ankle at all. I landed two out of the three I tried, but once I tried doing one in the program it was a total disaster. Oh well. I still have six weeks before State Games...by then, I hope I'll have a lutz/loop/ballet jump, as none of the other ladies in Bronze that I compete against currently have that combination. I am hoping it will help hide things that aren't so great, like my sit spin (which is improving but is nowhere near where it should be)....
Happy skating this week, all! <!--EZCODE EMOTICON START :D --><img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/happy.gif ALT=":D"><!--EZCODE EMOTICON STOP-->

That's great AEHodman. Good luck at the State Games!<!--EZCODE EMOTICON START :D --><img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/happy.gif ALT=":D"><!--EZCODE EMOTICON STOP--> <!--EZCODE EMOTICON START :D --><img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/happy.gif ALT=":D"><!--EZCODE EMOTICON STOP-->
Well, i was practicing my technical for my competition on friday, and i'm very inventive, so i was sort of adding to my ending(which is just sliding across the ice on one knee).
so i decided to slide across the ice on one knee (going forward), turn around while i'm still on one knee (so that i'm sliding backwards) and end up in the splits, like Michelle has done in some of her programs<!--EZCODE EMOTICON START :) --><img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/smile.gif ALT=":)"><!--EZCODE EMOTICON STOP--> well, i was practicing this saturday when i SLIGHTLY went out of the coned area which is for the figure skaters. one of the guys working there was skating by and said, 'if you're going to do that, do it in the middle'. <!--EZCODE EMOTICON START >: --><img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/mad.gif ALT=">:"><!--EZCODE EMOTICON STOP--> Needless to say, i was a little mad, because it was also his job to make sure that anybody not practicing figure skating stayed out of the middle (which there were like 10 kids in the middle w/ rental skates just talking to each other) i tell you, it's just not fair.<!--EZCODE EMOTICON START :( --><img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/frown.gif ALT=":("><!--EZCODE EMOTICON STOP--> ok, i'll stop whining. but it was actually a very good practice though. i did what had to be the highest and farthest loop jump i have ever done <!--EZCODE EMOTICON START :D --><img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/happy.gif ALT=":D"><!--EZCODE EMOTICON STOP--> I even did a camel spin and a sit spin, and then a camel/sit/upright combination spin. Well, i don't think it was the best, but it still felt good to do it<!--EZCODE EMOTICON START :D --><img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/happy.gif ALT=":D"><!--EZCODE EMOTICON STOP--> then i practiced my technical program and my footwork program<!--EZCODE EMOTICON START :) --><img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/smile.gif ALT=":)"><!--EZCODE EMOTICON STOP-->
Keep safe and Happy skating to everyone<!--EZCODE EMOTICON START :D --><img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/happy.gif ALT=":D"><!--EZCODE EMOTICON STOP-->

Hey Brieanne,
Don't you just hate that when some guy tells you what to do and tries to push you back in the middle where there are a zillion little kiddies and where you're more likely to hurt one of them there. So it's been a real exhausting week for me. I have an occasional axel/loop combination. Michelle has inspired me to try more jumps in combination. But I run into the classic problem, sometimes I'm so set on the combination I forget that I actually have to complete the first jump! I saw this kid (he must have been 10) try and almost land double axels. I was quite amazed. If I can get a better landing edge off the axel, that would be nice.

Hi guys,
My life long dream came true one week ago today when I had my first skating lesson! <!--EZCODE EMOTICON START :eek --><img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/eek.gif ALT=":eek"><!--EZCODE EMOTICON STOP--> I have skated just for fun without help for a few years, but have never been able to take lesson. Now I can! My second lesson was today. I skate at the rink Rosalyn Sumners trained at! At least I assume so... it has a big sign that says "Home of Rosalyn Sumners." I've been going with a couple of friends and my sister, and I love it!
I'm not sure what level I'm at but today we worked on T stops, hockey stops, two foot spins and waltz jumps. I'm pretty choppy, not terribly graceful, (although my friends insist I look like Ekaterina Gordeeva out there... <!--EZCODE EMOTICON START :lol --><img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/laugh.gif ALT=":lol"><!--EZCODE EMOTICON STOP--> yeah right!), but I am having the time of my life. <!--EZCODE EMOTICON START :rollin --><img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/roll.gif ALT=":rollin"><!--EZCODE EMOTICON STOP-->
Here's a question (and I'm dreadfully sorry if it sounds completely dumb!): We're doing waltz jumps from our left foot, but I'm having a lot of trouble getting turned around. <!--EZCODE EMOTICON START ;) --><img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/wink.gif ALT=";)"><!--EZCODE EMOTICON STOP--> When I take off from the right foot I can do it just fine. Same with left and right 3 turns... great on the right but I can't turn towards the left. Should I ask about this or just get over it?
Thanks <!--EZCODE EMOTICON START :) --><img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/smile.gif ALT=":)"><!--EZCODE EMOTICON STOP-->

Most skaters spin and jump in a counterclockwise direction. So on a waltz jump, this means taking off the left skating foot and landing on the right foot. It's kind of a matter of handedness. You may skate better the other way...look at Sarah Hughes, she does most of her jumps and spins in that opposite direction from most skaters. Definitely ask your instructor about this. However, on three turns you'll need to learn three turns in all directions and orientations so they're exempt. And many skaters try to learn jumps in the opposite direction after they master it first in the direction that they're more comfortable with.

Hey evrybody!
axelkid-it does annoy me when people get into the circle and just stand there talking, but maybe they don'y know any better. <!--EZCODE EMOTICON START :) --><img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/smile.gif ALT=":)"><!--EZCODE EMOTICON STOP-->
Amelia-wow. this was you're 2nd lesson and you're working on waltz jumps? <!--EZCODE EMOTICON START :D --><img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/happy.gif ALT=":D"><!--EZCODE EMOTICON STOP--> i didn't start working on those until 6 months after i started skating. the best of wishes that you'll continue to do well in your skating. i'm glad that you like it<!--EZCODE EMOTICON START :) --><img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/smile.gif ALT=":)"><!--EZCODE EMOTICON STOP-->
you know what is really stupid? i have a competition this Fri. and i sprained my ankle mon. night. <!--EZCODE EMOTICON START :( --><img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/frown.gif ALT=":("><!--EZCODE EMOTICON STOP--> i can actually walk on it fairly good right now, but i have to do 2 programs and i still have yet to learn the last half of one of them (hopefully i will learn the rest today.) Please pray that my ankle will heal in time for me to do my programs<!--EZCODE EMOTICON START :) --><img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/smile.gif ALT=":)"><!--EZCODE EMOTICON STOP-->

I went to practice this morning.....worked on my spins(camel and scratch). I felt really dizzy toward the end after all the spinning........ <!--EZCODE EMOTICON START :) --><img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/smile.gif ALT=":)"><!--EZCODE EMOTICON STOP-->
I did all my single jumps except the horrid axel.
Got compliments on my spiral again... <!--EZCODE EMOTICON START :) --><img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/smile.gif ALT=":)"><!--EZCODE EMOTICON STOP--> which makes me really happy.....because thats one of the few things that I get compliments on.
overall, it was a good practice. Thats it, how about everyone's?

Brianne -- Thanks for the well-wishes. I hope I can still compete -- I am leaving for a trip abroad in a few days and will have very little time to practice until I get back -- which only leaves me about two weeks to get ready. We'll see what happens....
I practiced yesterday, and gawd!!!...were my spins HORRIBLE! I couldn't even center my scratch spin (which I can normally do in my sleep), and my sit spin looked like a geriatric Magilla Gorilla impersonation. Yikes. Thank goodness my jumps went well -- I managed to land about 3 of the 5 lutz/loop/ballet jumps I tried, yay!, and some flip/loops as well. My ankle is still a bit sore from my injury last month, but I am hoping that the time off will fully heal it so I can get back to work when I return from my trip.
Oh! And if any MK Forum-ers are going to Adult Nationals, please cheer on my friend Kim Morgan for me. She is a FANTASTIC skater who will be competing at the highest level of the competiton, Adult Masters Ladies. Yay Kim!! <!--EZCODE EMOTICON START ;) --><img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/wink.gif ALT=";)"><!--EZCODE EMOTICON STOP--> I wish I coud have participated this year at the Bronze level but my spins are just not up to snuff yet....
Happy skating all! <!--EZCODE EMOTICON START :D --><img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/happy.gif ALT=":D"><!--EZCODE EMOTICON STOP-->

Since everyone was talking about their lessons, I thought I'd tell all about my lesson yesterday.
WE worked on MIF's for half the lesson- I HATE moves!! Anyway, those went pretty well even though they are really boring and I never pay attention to what I'm doing. So then we worked on my program- I have a xom in 2 weeks. However, we didn't do anything hard cause the competition ruled said that in my level we couldn't do any axels or doubles, which makes the program the easiest one I've done this season. Anyway, so I nailed the program because the hardest thing was a lutz/loop/loop. Then, for some reason we decided to work on my spins. The camel/catch foot went really well, and the camel/back camel was just okay. But for some strange reason, my scratch spin was totally off center!arrghhh!<!--EZCODE EMOTICON START >: --><img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/mad.gif ALT=">:"><!--EZCODE EMOTICON STOP--> !
So my next practice was this morning- I skated really well, but only centered every other scratch spin! It's driving me crazy!<!--EZCODE EMOTICON START :eek --><img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/eek.gif ALT=":eek"><!--EZCODE EMOTICON STOP--> ! but everything else was good, so I was happy.

Well....its sunday, and thats when I usually skate. :)
I did mostly single jumps. Did some spins, some of them are just horrible.....cant find my balance whatsoever.......Im wondering if not enough of sleep effect centering or not. I only got 4hours of sleep last nite, which is very little for weekends. But I did my spirals inside and outside. Backspiral, and the charlotte my "coach"/friend wants me to do it. I will get a real coach this summer.
Toward the end of the morning public session, one woman came up to me and complimented me saying that I skate like an olympic skater when I do my spirals....so I said thank you, and I was really happy because I always work on it in my ballet class. :)
Overall, it was a fun practice.....Now im exhausted. Going to eat and catch up w/some ZZZZZ..... :)
Happy Fun Skating Everyone.........

I hate axels today.
So I thought I got to the point where I could land them consistently. Then my teacher said that for the group program (in a month), she wants me to do TWO in a row. So I was like...oh no, I have to start practicing religiously. So I go out on the ice on Saturday and start practicing. It was like a bird got away from me...I could not land a single axel. And the problem wasn't that I was two footing them or touching the ice with my hand...they were outright SPLAT in your face axel crashes. I hurt a bit today..ouch. I'm hoping that I was just tired and a bit stiff and that my axel will be back tomorrow....I hope.
