As a skatefic writer, I could use a little bit of advice for the story I'm working on. I need a very basic description of some kind of figures pattern (?) for one of the characters to perform--something unique which other skaters observing have not seen before.
If anyone wants to take a shot at coming up with something, I'd be appreciative.

well, i dont really know a lot about figures, but as far as advice goes, there is a book, i think it's called the 'official book of figure skating' and in it i think it talks a bit about figures and has quite a few pictures (some of them look complicated) but that is the best advice that i would know for figures. maybe that might help if you have that book or they might have it at a library near you. hope that helps a little.

You could probably have her outline almost any shape you wanted. Like the Oly rings, or a skate boot outline, or outlining the shape of her state.

Though I know absoultely nothing about figures my self, I did however remeber seeing that HBO special talking about how all the old skaters doing figures and how they were judged. If I remember correctly, there was a great section featuring Dorthory Hammil practicing her figures. Maybe you can catch the special if it reoccurs on HBO, I'm sure it will because I've seen it a dozen times. The name of the special eludes me but I think it was something like, Something on Ice: The Diary of Women's Figure Skating or something like that. You might be able to find the name in Heather's TV scheldule. :-)

Well, I don't get "premium" channels. But I will say I enjoyed seeing Dorothy Hamill in the winter COI tour--she skates beautifully, and I can believe her figures are/were excellent.
Thanks for the tip though.
