Although figures are no longer required, some coaches still have their skaters practice them--for edge control, etc. Do any of you practice figures?

My instructor has me working on edges and three turns in figures, and I actually really enjoy it, because it gives me a way to keep track of my edge control.

Just curious if any of you always think so, and what figures you practice...

I passed the preliminary figures and 1st test (pre-juv) when I was 10. They started using movies in the field a couple months after that. i haven't done figures since, and I can't say I miss them! :D

I don't but I would like to take Moves in the Field classes because they really help your overall skating and presentation.

Did anyone know that the U.S. is one of the only countries in the world that REQUIRE Moves In The Field?

that explains why US skaters tend to have more polished skating, i guess. just compare MK's and irina slutskaya's spirals.

I actually got an old figure skating book from Amazon.com where they have a section on figures. It looks really hard, LOL, but it's interesting. I like practicing edges but I think doing perfect circles and stuff (then retracing the thing) could push my patience level over the limit. :p

MITF seems like it could replace figures, since it's footwork and stuff, but I think it all depends on whether the skater wants to focus on it or not. :\

From what i've read and seen about figures, they seem so evil! I'm glad I never had to do them!
