Tights and the shades of ... tan

OK, now I understand why Surya Bonaly skates without tights. I have been looking for skating tights for MONTHS. Online, offline and all over town and the only ones are can find come in the following colors: SUNTAN and LIGHT TOAST and NUDE (whatever the hell that is). Are these the only shades people come in??? Because last time I checked, my skin tone was more like pecan. I had pro shop folks tell me: "Oh, you can just wear black." I don't wanna wear black, thank you very much.

But what really makes me angry, is that Mondor and Danskin make tights in varying shades but the stores DON'T carry them and I have had no luck on special order requests as I was told they had to have a specific number of orders before making a committment. That is, unless I want to buy 20 pair of tights.

I fired off several angry letters because most of the companies assume that everyone looks alike. How boring the world would be if we all did.

Do the stores need a minimum of 20 pairs to special order them, or do you need to order that many if you order direct from the company yourself?

Will the companies sell to you directly?

or

Will the companies help you locate someplace that does sell the color(s) you want? For example, if you live in Oregon and a big store in California carries them the store in California might let you mail order from them, rather than the company.

I know what you mean, but to the other extreme of Surya Bonaly. I am possibly the palest person on earth. I don't burn and then tan, I burn and then burn more! I've seen pale tights on skaters, but have never been able to find them! I look horrible in my sleeveless backless competition dresses with nicely tanned legs! Argh!

Thanks for feeling my pain. I was just watching my Nationals tape the other day and Deanna Stellato was two-toned. It just looks weird. I'm thinking about joining a sync team but I'm dreading the costumes because of tights and "flesh-toned" dress material. Booo!

I agree, join a sync team, it is soo fun. What the did on my team (for part of it) was to take the flesh colored part off for the girls with dark skin.
