I FINALLY LANDED THE TREACHEROUS SINGLE AXEL!!!!
Well....I felt that since I haven't skated in a month because of exams and term papers, I really ought to get back on the ice as soon as I can. So I did, after my marketing exam on Tuesday, I went to skate on Wednesday morning. I have started to learn the single axel during this summer, but fell too many times and still never landed it like the way I did today!!....Thus, feeling discourage, I stopped practicing it. Today, I went with a close friend of mine and he gave me the confident to do it. He really believes that I can do it and he says that I am just focusing on "Am I going to land it" instead of thinking how an axel is supposed to be done. So, I kept on practicing it and of course fell several times, and then it just happen! I was elated to find out that after a split second of forward takeoff, I am landing on my landing foot and no fall. Then I continue with some really nice axels and I was completely surprised by what I could do if I just think of how it should be done and not how or where am I going to fall on the ice.

NEEDLESS TO SAY, I FELT GREAT AFTER THE SESSION!!!!

Sorry, I accidentally pressed enter and it posted my incomplete message....heheh
I will keep everyone on this forum about my progress. :)

Bugg44: Until I have perfected the axel, I really dont have a lot of advice on doing an axel on ice. What I do is practice the jumps off ice. Then when I get on the ice, I attempt to imagine that I am off ice and just apply what I can do off ice on the ice. For instance, I can easily do an axel on land, from there I start practicing an axel on ice because I know how to do it mentally.
When you get on the ice, warm up with as many waltz jumps as you can and try to really use that toe-pick to get enough high and forward-force. I hope this helps. Let us know when you land that treacherous jump. :)

Congratulations jackylutz! That is a great accomplishment. The closest I've come to landing an axel have been some rather pooh-pooh 1 1/4 attempts on the jump harness, so I know first hand how hard that jump is! :) :)
