Sorry don't know how to do a link, but a new yahoo article entitled "Arakawa topples Cohen, Kwan" (actually a good article despite the title) says that Kwan plans on going to the Olympics in Turino as well as comments about her long program in which Michelle describes her LP as "brilliant" Good for her, she's happy, I'm happy!!!!!:YS :CHO

"I felt it was brilliant," she said. "I felt really good. I skated well and I don't care about anything else."

Kwan, who skated after Arakawa, will probably go down in history as the last skater to have earned a 6.0 at world championships.

The 6.0 marking scale, a symbol of the sport for nearly a century, is due to be buried in June and replaced with a less subjective points system.

Loved the article. She wins the bronze and still makes history with the 6.0's. What a laugh! What a woman!!
Long live the Kween!

Great news!!! I'm looking at Michelle's final standing as a signal from the judges that had she nailed it in qualifying, they were more than ready to award her the title. The real problem was the low placement after qualifying. The deduction for time was a lousy call, and the guy on the ice right before she skated capped what has been a really weird Worlds for her! I think many other skaters would have really been thrown off their game by that incident right before their free skate! Pity about the doubled lutz at the end, but she was brilliant.

I've watched the videos several times over - Arakawa's jumps were terrific, but I don't know - her style strikes me as being somewhat heavy - it doesn't have the lightness of Michelle. I found her program labored. I'll have to wait until the TV broadcast to really be sure. I'd be interested to hear what people who were actually there thought. But with those jumps, she deserved the win. I wouldn't be surprised if she doesn't match that performance next year, though. I think this was her moment in the sun.

Michelle's okay for 2006. Plenty of time to regroup, refocus and strategize. I really think a few GP events outside the U.S. will help her in the eyes of the judges. Perhaps there might be a little resentment that the greatest ladies' champion of modern times prefers to skate in North America only? You can't ignore the anti-Americanism that is rampant in Europe, unfortunately. Now she's been 'humbled' (in their eyes) they may look more kindly on her - who knows? Once again Sasha didn't come through with a clean program - it's possible the judges are getting a bit tired of this. Her performances in the long are almost becoming predictable. With Michelle third, a lot of people may make the very big mistake of writing her off.......big mistake, HUGE mistake (to quote Julia Roberts from "Pretty Woman")!!

'Nuff said. I say roll on Torino!!!!!!!! And watch out next season, people! The skating world won't know what's hit them!:FL :SC :angel

She will go down in History to recieve the last 6/0s in Skating. How ironic. Big belly laugh. Makes my heart sing. Even when she doesnt win she goes down in History.

Michelle said her skate was brilliant?

That's my girl! Way to go, you certainly did!

So nice to hear Michelle say something like that!!! She is usually so careful with her words...saying she skated well, or she had fun, she skated her best etc. Finally she was able to say she was brilliant! If anyone else said it, it would sound arrogant, but not her. She deserves to say that because I heard her Free Skate was brilliant!

God, I just love her!:SJ

Look! another world record for Michelle Kwan!!! Unbelieveable.. whatever they do, she still manages to leave her mark!

Well, and we all know she'll be back with the 3/3's in a big way in the next two years. She's knows what she needs to do now-- I think this was a big wake up call in regards to her jumping and choreography. I guess we'll know better after tonight's broadcast, but reports are that it was probably the intricate choreography PLUS the jump content that kept Arakawa ahead of Kwan in the SP and FP. Arakawa has excellent basic skating (awesome edges-- I wondered what was keeping her below Cohen during the GP; probably the construction of Cohen's programs pre-Nats), so Michelle might not be able to rely on her usually superior skating skills against someone like Arakawa who is superior in overall speed and spins, as well as also having excellent quality of basic skating skills. Good luck to all the skaters shooting for Turin!
