I saw something on one of the other threads that said Michelle would win medal # 100 soon. IIRC, it was going to be last season. Did she reach it with winning Nats or the Marshalls comp?? I have been wondering for awhile and keep forgetting to ask?

If she has not reached it yet (she will!!!) it would be nice to have a poster or something similiar after a comp to let her know and the audience they have just witnesssed her winning number 100. Would that be too crass to do that? I wonder if she even knows that is approaching, or that she has already accomplished that feat. She is amazing. I admire and respect her and her skating so very much. What an accomplishment.
I doubt there will ever be another skater to reach that number.

just For Fun, I went to the usfsa site and counted her medal wins. Including team medal wins, she is at about 93. I do not know if there are other madal wins that are not noted on that site

She probably has over 100 counting all her medals from childhood, but reaching that 100 mark in her elete amature career would be awesome! Certainly a record!

i wonder where she keeps all her medals. but i think she has mentioned that she keeps her olympic medals in her safe deposit box.

I guess she would have over 100 if you count the ones given for each round at Worlds.

They give medals for each round at Worlds?? I've never heard that.

Yes they do give medals for each round. There is also pewter medal given to the fourth place finisher. I wonder.......did they give Michelle the gold medal at the olys for winning the short programs? If they did, in a sense she has won Oly gold.
Albeit, not as glamorous.

I'm the one who started the thread (it's in the Projects section) and I was counting Michelle skating more and winning more when I anticipated the 100 count being reached. But with that bit about Worlds, maybe she's made it. Jack

Only the USFSA gives out pewter medals, and Michelle has none.

I think that only worlds has medals for rounds, and it may be only for the LP.

The Olys are governed by the IOC and therefore have different rules than worlds which is run only by the ISU.

There are "small medals" given for both the SP and FS at Worlds -- not for qualifying, since there are two groups. These small medals (for SP and FS) are not given at the Olympics. If you want to add them into Michelle's "medal count" then yes, she is certainly over 100 if the previous total was 90 some (that seems very high, but I guess not if one counts the various cheesefests -- where medals really aren't given -- so I guess those would be "virtual medals" for her placements in those).

IIRC, Michelle has 16 "small medals" from Worlds:

1996: 2 gold
1997: 1 gold (LP)
1998: 2 gold
1999: 1 silver (LP)
2000: 1 bronze (SP), 1 gold (LP)
2001: 1 silver (SP), 1 gold (LP)
2002: 1 silver (LP)
2003: 2 gold
2004: 1 silver (LP)
2005: 2 bronze

i think i read somewhere that she keeps her other medals [nats, worlds, etc.] at her parents house.

According to Heather's site, Michelle has won 94 mdeals (including team events) since she has been competing as a senior. As someone else pointed out, there would be significantly more if you count the mini-Worlds medals.

I'd say that she has an excellent shot at surpassing that after this season. If she does the GP, GPF, Nats, Olympics, and Worlds - *and medals at all* - then you've got 100 right there. :)

Wow, that's cool!. Wouldn't it be great if she did it at the Olympics, along with winning the GOLD!!!. I guess she would get it at Worlds though. That would be a great way to cap off an amazing career. What a way to go out. I dread that day though. I hate to think of Michelle no longer skating. That will truly be a sad day for her fans and for the fingure skating world as well.
