I was wondering how much it would cost to have MKF 2006 Olympic pins made. Anyone know about that. That might be fun.
edited subject title to hopefully get more people to read the thread
Another note from Heather: There is a poll posted in the Projects section asking if you would be interested.
Please vote here:

Oooo that would be fun. Katie Courick collects those pins by the way. Anyway, I'd be happy to help organize if anyone knows how to get started.

Sounds like a great idea. Does anyone know how to get(assuming we need) approval to use the olympic rings?

I don't know how to get started but here is a site that produces pins.
Called PinPros but the site is cheappins. Looks like they know what they are doing.

Actually, in my other fandom, a bunch of boards have been making pins for their own board. If there's enough people who want them, the pins come out pretty cheap (I think $2 or $3 a piece.) I can ask for the vendor info and such, if people are interested.
I really don't think we could have Olympic pins though. The Olympics are very strict about how the word Olympics, and the Olympic rings are used.

Count me in I am totally interested!

If it isn't possible to make official Olympic pins, maybe we could work on MKF pins for the Olympics? I looked at the links above, and it seems we could find a good match for what the forum wants in a pin. :)
We'll need to start with a design, then go from there.
Ideas anyone?
:D

Maybe we could incorporate "2006 We Believe" from Erin's banner in our design.
lillyfly
June 9th, 2005, 08:53 AM
That would be nice with the MKF logo.

nice, the pins would be a cool idea :)

This all sounds really good. maybe we should have Erin, or anyone else who wants to, work out a design for the pins to incorporate her banner with MKF. Then we can see what it would actually look like on the pin. Does this sound good? Any suggestions? ;)

OK, I have the vendor other boards have used (the results have been great.) I don't know if we should start thinking about design, or if I should start an actual poll asking if people would be interested, other than the 10 or so of us here in this thread. ;) Maybe I'll wait until ezboard is back for good (so they say, about a week), and then start a poll, and then I can contact the vendor.

I love the idea! "Kwan 2006 We Believe" would be perfect for this coming season. Erin, Kim Aggie?

Heather, are you going to move the threads in this Temp spot to their respective sections or should we open new threads?
Heather
June 18th, 2005, 02:59 PM
lillyfly-On Monday I'm going to move all threads from the Temp thread to their right places on the board, so no, new threads don't need to be started.

Thanks Synnabun :) I believe the minimum order is 100, and then after that, the pins get cheaper the more you order. I'll st up a poll in the next few days, and see how many people are really interested.
If we want to be quick about it, we could do something like just the MKF Logo. From the MKF Logo page:
www.locarbdesign.com/MKFL...ldleaf.htm (http://www.locarbdesign.com/MKFLogos/whitebackgrounds/pages/goldleaf.htm)
And maybe add the year or something? Or we could open it for more designs. Well, we'll decide that after we know we have actual interest. ;)

True that the rings and the word "Olympic(s) are (I'm pretty sure) registered trademarks.
However, "Torino" can't be trademarked - so you could have "Torino 2006 - We Believe". Just a thought.
I would buy several.

Ooooh! Count me in as someone who would LOOOOVE to own an MKF 2006 pin! I already collect Olympic pins--I have about 50 from 2002!

This is a rough mockup of just the logo & the phrase (2006 We Believe)
heatherw.com/test/pin_rough.gif (http://heatherw.com/test/pin_rough.gif)
Do you guys like something like that? We could pick different colors for the logo and phrase or something like that. The pin company works on the proof until you like it for free, so they could tweak it and such.
Or other suggestions! I just really want to stay away from any kind of Olympic term, even Torino. 2006 I think works best.

Thank you, Heather and others for all your hard work! :)
I like the suggested design very much. It would be nice if we could have an option to choose from two or more different colors (like the MKF bracelet). But if not, then, how about red or gold?
Thank you.

Heather I like the mock up you made with the logo and We believe. It looks very classy. I agree it's best to stay away from anything Olympic oriented. I'd wear one!

I like the 2006 We Believe with the logo. That way we could wear them to Nationals. I would definitely but one.

Heather, the design looks great. I don't know if it would cost more to have different colors. The PinPros site had some gold silver and bronze pins that looked nice. I would buy cloisonné and gold ones. I don't know how many I could afford but I would like many pins.
Thanks for making the thread title more explanatory. You're the greatest.

OK, even without much promotion, I think it looks like we should have enough interest for a minimum buy (100 pins) once it's really promoted on the board and such.
To be sure, I've started this poll. If you are (and even if you aren't!) interested, please vote in it. And if you definitely will order more than one, please vote for that option.

I don't mind working with the pin company on the design, etc, but hopefully another poster or two (violinstarfish and Synnabun both mentioned helping, so, maybe one or the two of you could help?) could do the actual sending out/collecting money part of it. I had my fill of that during the MKF Ribbon thing. :b
lillyfly-I've seen several pics from the company (not one that was linked already, I don't think?) and they have many colors, and are beautiful. :)
So, anyone have any suggestions for colors? Once we figure out that, I'll e-mail the pin company, and they can work on the actual proof of the pin.

I think Lyra Blue or Rach/Spartacus red with gold outlining would be pretty for a pin :)

The design is lovely!! I love the font and the swirl graphic. I do think the pin should say "Michelle Kwan Forum" somewhere (maybe around the edge) in addition to "MKF" because a lot of people probably won't understand what it means.
Does anyone know what the Olympic colors/graphics are for Torino? It would be cool to use those colors and font for the key chain.

Re: Oly colors and graphics for Torino, Baby!:
The USOC Torino team logo (or whatever you call it!) I've seen is sort of snow-flake-ish - a throwback to the late 70's early 80's if you ask me. Very geometric and using the colors black, navy blue and Lyra blue, with white in the back of course.
I wish I could find a picture...I'm working off my return address labels here:D
