I love all her choices but I would love her to skate to Beethoven's second symphony. That girl is amazing. She could skate to hip-hop music and make is graceful and beautiful.

Well, based on her latest interview, we know that she doesn't listen to classical music, and she let's the choreographer pick the music. If she likes it, she goes with it.
Well, I wish for the Olympic season, Michelle's LP would be one of two things:
Richard Wagner
(blending selections from)
· Tristan and Isolde
· Gotterdammerung, Mvmt 1
· Der Ring Des Nibelungen, Mvmt 6
or
Beethoven's
· Moonlight Sonata, Op. 27, No. 2 - 1st Movement

Piano Conceto #2. I know it has been done before, but it is such a long piece that she could skate to a different selection of clips.

emdiaz - which composer's Piano Concerto #2? Rach?
LP/SP:
Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (for Hayls, but I absolutely adore this piece)
Joy Luck Club
The soundtrack to Winter Sonata (korean drama)
Chopin's Nocturne in E minor (I think it's minor..)
The special version I have of Vocalise with cello
Dvorak's The New World
what about some soundtrack music? The Piano, The Hours, Pirates of the Caribbean, LOTR even :P
Something with funk -
I love the Body Rock she skated to in her Princess on Ice special and more specifically, the way she skated to it
What about some rave/techno music that she could really move to?

Well, I got my wish with Tosca and Roxanne...
Now I would have to say anything LOTR, Riverdance, Final Fantasy VIII (or any of them actually!), Beauty and the Beast (cuz Nancy Kerrigan hardly did it justice!), or even Hollie Vise's floor ex tango. THAT would make a HOT short program! Can you imagine the footwork?
Did you mean "exhibition" program there?

May This Be Love by Jimi Hendrix
The Game (HHH's theme music) by Motorhead
I Try by Macy Gray

ooh, forgot to add, it would be really cool if Michelle would skate to rock, like Lifehouse or Coldplay. Oh dear, I would be so thrilled if she skated to them.
Or what about something like Smashing Pumpkins/Zwan? of course I'd cry my eyes out listening to it, but she'd do such an awesome job..
Exhibitions of course.
I really want a piece that is extremely moving, such as Rachmaninoff's Elegie (that Katia skated to) - not use that piece, but something that evokes the same feeling...
Hm.. what else.. my brain really is flown away today. I apologize to all who have to read my ramblings today. I think I'm on edge :P

candygirl and DCskate,
excellent choices! I met Charlotte Chuch on April 21, 2001. I had her sign my CDs and I bought her autobiography. She signed it too.
I also saw the Lion King on broadway 2 years ago. The music is BEAUTIFUL.
I think she should skate to "Can you feel the love Tonight" for an exhibition.
I really can't think of any competition songs (okay, maybe good artist's music...Josh Groban, but for exhibition:
Serenade by Haydan (I only say that b/c I'm playing it on flute)
Anything by Celine Dion
Brandenburg Concerto No. 5 (Theme for 3rd movement) by Bach
I'll think of more....

I was just going to post about this song. This song is SO Michelle. I would LOVE to see her do this as an exhibition. What a powerful, beautiful song! (I didn't know there was a non-vocal version. Is it on their CD? I may just have to go buy that if it is.)
As far as competitive programs, I'm so tired of classical, overused music. Here are some soundtracks I would like to see her skate to:
Pearl Harbor
Riverdance
Much Ado About Nothing
The American President
El Tango de Roxane (I have been dreaming about this since I saw Mulan Rouge. I'm hoping my dream comes true :) )
I'm sure I'll think of more later.
Oh, and I'm still waiting for the Eminem medley that we heard about earlier this year :lol

Romeo and Juliet, I think her style is so suited to this peice of music. It would be my dream to see her skate to this with the right choreography costume and music cuts. I think she would live up to the music and do it justice. Sadly it's so overdone I don't think it's ever going to happen.
I would like to see her skate to something fun, light and almost comical like Die Fledermaus but it's not really her style.
Sleeping Beauty's "Rose Addagio" would be nice. Nessun Dorma would be nice too.

I was thinking along the lines of a couple of other posters here, apparently. For a competetive program, I'd love to see Michelle explore her Chinese heritage. The composer who wrote Crouching Tiger has written other symphonic works, and Yo Yo Ma has a CD of Chinese music. Michelle has had several visits to China lately, and might feel connected to this type of music if someone presented it to her.
For an exhibition, I've imagined Michelle skating to "Finishing the Hat," a song from the musical "Sunday in the Park with George" by Stephen Sondheim. The lyrics remind me of how Michelle must feel sometimes, constantly being tugged back to the ice while the rest of the world beckons. She seems to prefer female vocals for her exhibitions, and I don't know if a female singer ever recorded this song. But the original Broadway version by Mandy Patinkin has a wonderful impressionist undercurrent with a soaring melody over the top, which could make for an interesting skate (great place for the spiral, for instance). Just a thought.

omg Vocalise98!!! If Michelle did something from Smashing Pumpkins/Zwan I'd cry my eyes out too, she would just do an amazing job I think...wow I can think of several songs that would just be great!
Long Program:
I would love to see her do something Asian....
kinda like Last Emperor or something....
or something from the Pianist
ooooohhhh!!! or something from Lord of The Rings!
I still think Lux Aeterna from Requiem for a Dream would be amazing.
Short Program:
something fiery or just something that uses alot of energy

I would like MK to skate to more Pop and Rock music with intricate choreography and a classy cut of music. As she has shown before ("A Day in the life" "Rush") her dynamic skating style is perfect for that kind of music. Michelle is so cool! :)

I have all three LOTR's CDs composed by Howard Shore. If and when she goes to the games, I think it would be cool if she did the triology CDs, sorta a tie into her triology of Olympic appearances.
The short can be a song from the Fellowship of the Rings. Personally I like the 2nd track called Concerning the Hobbits, it's cute song with a lot of violin. The Long, she can go with a song from the Two Tower CD. I don't have a favorite yet. And for her Exhibition, she can finish the trio with Annie Lennox's Into the West from the Return of the King CD. It's an awesome song!

nice angel-
For the Long Program, I completely agree. That is one piece of over-used music that never seems over-used to me and I would love to see Michelle skate to it. It has MICHELLE written all over it. (This is also Puccini aka Tosca, hint hint, wink, wink..):rollin
As Vocalize and angelofmine pointed out, Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon has some sections that would make an awesome SP. :eek
The "Cider House Rules" soundtrack has some wonderful music that could be edited into either an SP or LP.
Finally, for an exhibition, there is another wonderful Eva Cassidy tune from her "Imagine" CD called "I Can Only Be Me" that also has Michelle's name all over it. However, I could live with Michelle skating to some Enya music too such as "Only Time.":D

I would have to add any song from Sarah Brightman's new CD, "Harem". The first track is awesome, and if it weren't for the fact that she's skated to middle Eastern themed music before, this track would be so powerful and a wonderful choice. Or she could do wonders with "what you never know."

I know Turandot (Nessun Dorma) has been overused, nonetheless it is grand beautiful music and perfect for Michelle. It's about a Chinese Princess! What could be more appropriate?
If not, I think some of the Westerns' music has that larger than life quality that would look good on Michelle. Maybe 'The Magnificent Seven' (perfect for when she goes after her 7th World Title, lol). Silverado is also great. When skating to a Western, the key is to capture the grandness, the freedom, the sweeping grandeur of the those songs. It is not necessary to wear a cowboy hat ,stirrups and try to rope a cow ala Slutskaya.

1) Il Souvenir de Florence by Tchaikovsky (please, oh please, it builds so splendidly in the last movement)
2) Love the Barber Violin Concerto, great suggestion
3) Mendelssohn Octet
4) A big Choral work such as Beethoven 9, the Messiah, or the Creation, not sure this is allowed though, but can't you just see her in the final movement of the Beethoven, that would just bring down the house...
so much great music out there...

Vienna Teng - www.viennateng.com (http://www.viennateng.com)
My picks: "Gravity", "Lullabye For A Stormy Night", "Momentum"
OK, I'm willing to bet that no one on this board has heard of her, but every time I hear one of Vienna Teng's songs, I imagine how Michelle would skate to them. Vienna's music is melodic and emotional, with thoughtful and expressive lyrics and with the right choreography, I think Michelle could skate an absolutely incredible exhibition program to any of her songs.
Plus, what a way to support your fellow Asian-American! :p

The BARBER VIOLIN CONCERTO!!!! Oh, please use Josh Bell's recording with the Baltimore Symphony and David Zinman. Clips from the first movement alone would have plenty of material for a long program, and the closing 15 seconds of the 3rd movement/finale would be an incredible finish.
Barber's "Medea's Dance of Vengeance" would be a nice dramatic role she could bring passion to.
Okay, I'm on a Barber kick, here...
But chambermusic would be great, too -- love Tchaikovsky's Souvenir de Florence sextet and the Mendelssohn Eb octet too.
Maybe the Sibelius and Korngold violin concertos too...
If she could bring back Bartok's Miraculous Mandarin, or if she's daring enough, the opening movement of Bartok's VIOLA concerto... (drooling... better stop here...)

For an exhibition:
"Silence" by Delerium feat. Sarah McLachlan
That song is so haunting, yet uplifting. I can totally imagine Michelle flowing to the music. If she did her I/O spiral during:
"In this white wave

in this silence"
That would be one of the most spine-tingling moments since Aranjuez.
That genre of music is also largely ignored by the skating community, so it would be a comfortable stretch to her repetoire.

Scheherazade- I am Mine is great.
I'd love for Michelle to skate to any Pearl Jam (because they just rock), especially Thumbing My Way, You Are or All or None, all from the Riot Act album.
I'd love for Michelle to revisit the Red Violin and skate to a shortened version of the last song Chaconne for Violin and orchestra. It just starts out softly and the end is a powerful climax that she could really bring to life (perhaps with a long, lingering change of edge spiral?):SP

:SP I don't know if any of you have heard of these two classical music violinists, but I love:
:SE ANDRE REIU & ITZHAK PERLMAN! These two guys have been my favorite and they write such PHAT violin pieces.

Now that we're on this topic, here goes......
Limelight, by Charles Chaplin
Francesca da Rimini, by Tchaikovsky
and lastly......
Violin Concerto, Jean Sibelius (for those of you who loved Michelle's Red Violion music......this was the inspiration for the film's music. It's bold, it's LOUD, and it takes you on a journey. Go listen to this music!)

I'm at a loss right now as to what I think good SP and LP music might be, but I know what I'd like to see her use as exhibition music:
1) "Mi Mancherai" by Josh Groban (I've always loved the instrumental to Il Postino).
2) "Oh, How the Years Go By" by Vanessa Willliams. The lyrics of this song are appropriate for Michelle--she's had her ups and downs, but no matter what, she's still going strong.
3) "A Love Before Time" by Coco Lee (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon). Since Michelle is such a wonderful, emotional skater, I think she could skate to this song and do it justice.
4) "One More Time" by Chante Moore w/Kenny G. Once again, I think Michelle could really shine in this sexy song.

There are some great selections here. However there are some beautiful pieces that have been used for skating suggested that I have never thought was skating music: Ave Maria, Moonlight Sonata, Pacabel's Canon, Vivaldi's Four Seasons, for example. They are just a snooze for me a skating music-just not enough highs & lows I guess. Music that seems to be all lows just doesn't generate excitement in skating for me.

Im still thinking about the sp and lp music, but an exhibition I would love to see is "The River" I think its called. Its the Theme from the movie Working Girl. Really powerful and moving piece of music. Michelle would really do well with Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story's music as well. It has such a joyful sound. Could be a Homage to Elvis Stojko ;)

Good choices, DMB! The theme from Working Girl is "Let the River Run" by Carly Simon. It's an excellent song! I love it because it's so uplifting. And the Dragon program is my favorite Elvis performance. Once, I thought, "Hey, Michelle can do skate to that!" I'm still crossing my fingers. :D

ooh, I love Carmina Burina.
I came up with another piece - Barber's Adagio. I heard this once and my friend whom I went with downloaded it after he got home. It was so absolutely beautiful and it just built up.
And haha, just because I'm a nut, I have to again pop in my head and say Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. I would die happy if she skated to that as a LP.
And then a spanish theme for her SP.
As for her exhibitions, I've already named my choices. And preferably nothing female :P Male rock bands all the way!

Confidential theme, the theme from An Affair to Remember by Emile Pandolfini as well as Ennio Morricone's theme from the Love Affair and from The Cutting Edge sound track, The Race by Yello, these are for either SP or LP. for her exhibition either she brings back to life East of Eden, Mariah's My Saving Grace and Gloria Estefan's Reach or Coming out of the Dark with the latter being a very good exhibition program.

I have said before that this would be a PERFECT piece of music for Michelle to use. It is SO powerful and emotional... I am shocked that nobody in the skating world has used it (at least recently/to my knowledge), which makes it all the more perfect for Michelle

I would opt for musical taste reminiscent of Lori Nichol's -less frequently used compositions mixed w/ innovative choreography. I would co-choreograph w/ David Wilson and of course MK herself. Still the whole picture will tell a story. If it were not for this forum as a source of info., I would choose the following music:
SP: Rhapsody on a theme of Paganini
LP: "Concierto de Aranjez, allegro moderato" by Rodrigo + either "Romanza" by Bacarisse or "Cavatina" from "The Deerhunter" sountrack.

Here's some stunning original music from the "Ladies in Lavender" soundtrack.
www.djdchronology.com/lad...rvideo.htm (http://www.djdchronology.com/ladiesinlavendervideo.htm)
The 1st track is a much, much softer version of the lush and dynamic "Fantasy for Violin & Orchestra", the highlight of the whole CD IMHO. Joshua Bell puts so much emotion into this piece, especially the last 2 minutes which rises to an unbelievable crescendo. Everytime I listen to it I can see Michelle doing some gloriously passion filled footwork. I wish I had the technological knowhow to make all of track #4 available. A choreographer of Nichol's skills could edit track #1, #4 and even a little bit of #2 into a wonderfull lp.
I forgot to add the link to Joshua Bell's website :

My wish is for Michelle to skate to El Tango de Roxanne. I've been waiting for that moment since I saw "Moulin Rouge". This piece is absolutely brilliantly perfect for Michelle. It's stong, passionate, powerful and struts with attitude and beauty.
I agree with everybody who suggested Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. This soundtrack has tons of stuff that would suit her very well. She hasn't done too many Asian themes other than Mulan, and I think it's one area she should cover. Oh, and I love the drum sections!
Fantasia on a Theme by Thomas Tallis is one of the most emotional and beautiful pieces out there. I feel Michelle could do wonders with it.

Random Music Musings
Vaughan William's "The Lark Ascending" (Romance for Violin and Orchestra) would be incredible, something about this music gives me chills. The same with Elgar's Violin or Cello Concertos.
Following with the Khachaturian theme of last year, MK could always do his violin concerto ;-), or, actually ...
I think the perfect music for her short program would be either the Nocturne from the "Masquerade" suite (almost everyone recognizes the Waltz from the same suite used by EVERY dance team), or Gayane's Lullaby, both by Khachaturian.
Tchaikovsky's Violin Concerto gives me goosebumps everytime of course. Korngold and Sibelius were great suggestions too! And, The Miraculous Mandarin.
Well ... how about ...
SP: Anything from Joshua Bell's Romance of the Violin. How about the Massenet Elegie or Borodin Nocturne?
LP: Miaskovsky's Violin Concerto or "Un Bel Di Vedremo" from Madame Butterfly
Oh well, too much good music. I'm sure whatever she chooses will be incredible. Can't wait till next year!

I would love to see Michelle skate to Yanni’s music, Until the Last Moment, off of the In My Time CD. I really think that Michelle would be able to capture the soul of this piece of music and skate beautifully to it, in either competition or exhibition.
<img border=0 src="http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/glasses.gif" />
Besides in both the winter and summer opening ceremonies, when the athletes walk into the arena, they use Yanni’s music “Santorini” , so why not stick to the same musician as the Olympic committee does?
In case you have never heard this piece of music, here is a link that I found. Hope you like it.

Underhill and Martini (Canadian Pairs from 80's and 90's) skated to a vocal rendition of this, which happened to be the first time I had heeard it even though I watched the miniseries. They were wonderful, but I don't know whose rendition it was. I have Placidigo Domoingo's, although it is badly scratched from overuse, but I don't think it was his. I haven't read this entire thread so I'm not sure if anyone mentioned this but I would love to see Michelle skate to the Hero Soundtrack. The music is beautiful and has the great violinist Yesak Perlman playing on many of the tracks. I'm not sure if I'm spelling his name correctly.
It's a great classical peace that reminds me so much of Michelle's skating. It would be a great peace of music to check out. I actually decided to listen to the album because a famous R&B artist Bobby Valentino sampled it for one of his songs "Tell Me." The violin was so beautiful I did some research and saw that it was from this movie which I've seen a million times I'm surprised I didn't guess it right away.
By the way I read the replies on this forum but I have never posted. I actually been reading it for a long time. However, I figured I should stop standing on the sidelines.
