Hi,

I had Strained hip/muscle ligament before, it is very painful and it took months to heal.. Michelle can try some natural therapy like Arnical oil or the Chinese Zien Koo shey or the Japanese Salonpaz spray. There are many natural products out there in the health food store... :)

Would taking prescription medications speed the recovery along? ie. non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs

It really depends on the specific type of injury to the hip and which ligament is affected. The main ligaments of the hip are the Y-shaped Bigelow ligament (considered to be the strongest ligament in the body), the ishiofemoral, illiofemoral and ligament teres.

A "strain" is a very broad term. It could very well be Trochanteric bursitis or mild tendonitis around the illiotibial band (the IT band). Treatment for this would be a shot of cortisone and anti-inflammentory agents such as Naproxyn.

I am no doctor (all this info was culled from the internet) but I am sure MK is getting the best treatment available.

I know three people who swear by arnica oil for pain relief.

I am a physician and I use arnica on my skating bruises but for a ligament deep within the hip I don't think it would be of much use but it wouldn't hurt. We really don't know what Michelle's injury is and for the record ligaments are sprained and muscles/tendons are strained.

If Michelle has seriously injured one of the hip ligaments it is a serious problem. One wrong move and she would get a sharp jolt of pain. NSAIDS like Naproxen may certainly help with the pain but they will not heal the injury and in fact the usefulness of NSAIDS has come under fire because they actually may impede the healing of bone related injuries. Since ligaments attach to bone they can avulse or be pulled away from the bone when injured seriously --a bad situation. Rest, rehab, and time. It is a wait and see.

Meanwhile we are stuck watching who is out there. Not my scene at all.
