I know I asked for flower suggestions in the Brainstorming #2 thread, but I thought it might be better to compile that separately here.

So far, people have suggested tropical, Hibiscus, lillies, orchids, plumeria, a lei, NOT roses, pale violet, blue or purple Iris's, and tulips......

I know I'm not really smart when it comes to flowers, so if anyone knows a great link that shows what different types of flowers look like, that might be helpful (for instance, I know what roses, orchids, and tulips look like, but not hibiscus, iris, etc!)

I agree that red roses are too Valentine-ish, but my experience with other color roses arranged with baby's breath has been that they are breathtaking and very much admired and appreciated. Colors such as the "Sonia" peach etc. I just looked up Flowers.com and see they have a two dozen multicolored roses and baby's breath bouquet shown ( it said something like send a rainbow of roses)---and priced at $59.99. A rainbow of roses sounds so appropriate. Just a thought.---------MaryAda

...how about a bouquet of gold (or yellow) flowers? Some of the flowers that I can think of offhand the come in gold are roses, plumeria, tiger lillies, daisies. With some white babies breath thrown in for contrast.

The lavender-colored roses are called Sterling Silver. That's what made me think of the gold thing.

Jenny--I visited the Flowers.com web site and under the Flowers Best Sellers, my favorite is the "Timeless Tulips". However, the rainbow of roses is also lovely.

Take a look yourself. I will support and contribute to your decision. Thanks so much for taking this on!

I suggested tulips earlier but the rainbow roses sound beautiful.

I couldn't resist the phrase *rainbow of roses* so I had to check it out and they are so beautiful! I'm not crazy about roses but this bouquet is *insert squeal* soooo beautiful!

Whatever--just make it huge. And I mean *huge*! There are certain types of flowers that Chinese people (superstitious ones--me included) don't like; however, until someone mentions it, I won't bring them up!

Jenny, how much are the flower prices in the USA? I am willing to pay at least $10, or more if we need to. No problem. I understand how it feels to be appreciated and to be surprised with flowers! At the hospital, when discharged patients send us flowers, we are always so happy.

We should make a decision soon!

Jennie, I went back to the Flowers.com site, and checked out the rainbow of roses, and discovered that they would be shipped boxed, and would not come arranged as per a local florist, so I guess that's not such a good idea. Maybe an 800 number call to FTD could help with ideas for this particular situation. I too am willing to send whatever you need to do whatever you deem appropriate, and I second the thanks for taking this project on.------MaryAda

Jenny,

I'll pay at least $5 US. I really do love the rainbow flowers, but like Maryada said, they don't come in a vase. As Maryada also said, you may be able to get a vase if you talk to them directly. While on the site I saw a beautiful bouquet of 50 mixed tulips in a vase. But I agree with Karin, whatever you choose, make it "huge"!

P.S. Thanks for fixing my membership <!--EZCODE EMOTICON START :) --><img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/smile.gif ALT=":)"><!--EZCODE EMOTICON STOP-->

Terri, it was me who suggested a *huge* bouquet, not Karin! Karin is not even returning until September!

Tulips for me...they signify rebirth and spring.

MK certainly has been re-born so i think they'd be appropriate, not to mention they're beautiful!!!!

Couple of places online to buy flowers. hee hee..enjoyed doing this little research and these are the nicest online flower shops imo.

Sterling Roses ARE beautiful. Roses just seem a little too formal to me, but I LOVE almost all flowers and anything you choose would be fine with me.

I will send whatever amount you decide on for whatever types of flowers you want. I also loved the rainbow roses.. too bad they couldn't be arranged instead of just boxed. I agree with the Valerie and Terri's sentiment that it should be huge, whatever kind of bouquet it is. Where did Karin go, by the way? I can't seem to remember...

I will go along with what ever is decided.
I prefer a HUGE boquet of COLORFUL spring flowers.
( Of course from the previous thread a few weeks ago,
if MK is a flower - and my response was peony)
I think just 2 peonies as part of the boquet would be
lovely.

Hi, I was just catching up with what's happening.. and i LOVE this idea!! I'm in on it...

I thinnk Forget-Me-Nots would be a great idea too... a handful of blue FMN will show that we won't forget her, ever... and they're very nice flowers!

That's my suggestion! <!--EZCODE EMOTICON START 8) --><img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/glasses.gif ALT="8)"><!--EZCODE EMOTICON STOP-->

Wow, those rainbow roses *are* pretty! I love the vibrance and variety! I can imagine MK not seeing something like that before and really liking them. I don't think 2 dozen is enough, though. I'm with all the people who want it BIG. I want her to be like "Oh my gosh, that's HUGE!" I'm sure she's gotten flowers from other people (and certainly decent sized boquets) and I want ours to stand out. We need it huge! That's why we need to get a pledged amount total asap, to see what we can afford. I know if we needed a few extra bucks to get something better, I could get my family memebers to donate bcz they love her, too. (Please see my other post on the pledging idea in the 2nd brainstorming thread.) I also agree that we want them in a boquet, not a box.

I do like the idea of forget-me-nots, too, though. I don't know what they look like, but I like the theme there...and don't you think she would, too? Esp. with all her talk about what people said after nationals about her.

Oh, this is important - what flowers do people from China not like???? Please post that info...we don't want to spend all this time and $ and send her something unlucky<!--EZCODE EMOTICON START :) --><img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/smile.gif ALT=":)"><!--EZCODE EMOTICON STOP--> . This is fun!

Kara

I just got a far-fetched idea...do you think that if we go through FTD we might be able to get some perks bcz they sponser the Winter COI<!--EZCODE EMOTICON START :) --><img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/smile.gif ALT=":)"><!--EZCODE EMOTICON STOP--> ??? They might do a better job of finding out where the hotel is and how long she'll be there if they call or whatever bcz they're "official"...or maybe even making sure the flowers are arranged especially nicely, or putting them in a vase instead of a box or something.

Anyone know anyone who works for FTD? Or any other flower place that would maybe give us a discount for a large order, or bcz we could place the order through an employee??? I've noticed that often, if you look into things like this you can get better deals. Even if we don't know anyone, maybe the roses could be arranged in a vase if we just ask or if we pay a little more...you have to ask for what you want, and they'll give it to you more often than some might guess...we should also remember to ask for baby's breath and greens in whatever boquet we get. If we get the roses I think we need 3 or 4 dozen, and we should specify not all red since a lot of people don't think red is appropriate. I think some red, but more of the mixed kinds maybe.

Hey y'all as I said over on the #2 brain storming idea thread(to many threads to keep track of)Michelle is a very gracious person and I really don't think that she is going to be upset with any kind of flowers. Whatever Jenny decides is fine with me as long as it is HUGE! I think Michelle will be happy and over whelmed that she has so many fans that appreciate her and lover her. Just my two cents and I am looking forward to whatever decision is made.

OK, I promise I'll stop after this post<!--EZCODE EMOTICON START :) --><img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/smile.gif ALT=":)"><!--EZCODE EMOTICON STOP--> ...I just checked out FTD and one thing we should keep in mind is that they said that when you up-grade your order (like if the version shown is $55 and the next two more expensive versions aren't pictured), the florist will either give you more flowers, better QUALITY flowers, or a better quality VASE<!--EZCODE EMOTICON START :( --><img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/frown.gif ALT=":("><!--EZCODE EMOTICON STOP--> ! Umm, no thanks, we'll take more flowers! I can just imagine us paying an extra $20 for what they say is a "better" vase (whatever that means), and when you order you don't know which option they'll choose...something tells me that if we're not gonna see it, they won't choose more flowers.

At florist.com, the upgrades specifically say *Large and *Extra Large, and they really have some gorgeous displays that look pretty huge already.

Even if you've already posted what you like above, please post again below this thread of mine so I can accurately count who likes what. Here are some options to choose from:

Roses:
<a href=http://www.1800flowers.com/flowers/product.asp?pcode=1468>Rainbow of Roses</a> (shown boxed -- I'd have to look into a vased version)

Tulips:
<a href=http://www.1800flowers.com/flowers/product.asp?country_code=0&pcode=1148>50 Stem Tulip Bouquet</a> (shown boxed -- I'd have to look into a vased version)

My #1 choice would be the 50-Stem Tulip Bouquet or a
similar large bouquet of tulips. As much as I love
roses, I think a bouquet of tulips is a little more
unusual. The bigger the better, we need to make an
impact.

Choice #2: The Rainbow Roses. You can never go
wrong with roses.

Anything that is in a bouquet and is HUGE is fine with me.
So I vote for: 1.Bouquet 2. HUGE

1. Rainbow roses
2. Tulips

I like vases!

My vote would be for the "Cheerful Tulips" -- super-sized.
I agree with whomever wrote above, that tulips are 'special.' A little out of the ordinary...and the cheerful ones are especially beautiful!

But as long as it's huge, any flower choice would be great!!

Terri
April 6th, 2000, 06:56 PM
Just to clarify, my second choice was for the 50 stem tulips.

Valerie

Maybe calalilies or something exotic like orchids. Really anything will be fine. What a great idea, Jenny!

Caroline

1) Rainbow Roses ( if they could add more
it would be even better! And the vase is
a must of course)
I agree that you can't go wrong with Roses and
I don't think they are cliche.. but they have
always been associated with passion which is what
her skating exemplifies.

2) 50 Tulips

I vote for the 50-stem tulips, if you can get them in a vase I'm sure you can--I have sent flowers via the web lots of times, and you just have to tell them what you want. It just costs extra. :-)

BTW, if you go to the 1-800-flowers web site through the hunger web site, they will also donate a portion of the sale price to the hunger charities.

I am not sure if I am still a loud to suggest anything for the flowers because I am not making a money contribution, as of now, but I will do so anyway.

I think Jenny should buy a mixed bouquet of flowers. Michelle has so many different types of fans, Irish, Chinese, short, tall, skinny, chubby, that these flowers could repersent her mixed bouquet of fans. <!--EZCODE EMOTICON START :) --><img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/smile.gif ALT=":)"><!--EZCODE EMOTICON STOP--> I know, I'm cheesey!

Stargazer Bouquet (http://www2.flowerfarm.com/consumer/Product_Information.asp?No_Catalog=X&ProductNumber=SL901BASE)

They might not be a wide variety of colors but they are beautiful and have a wonderful fragrence. It would be nice to give Michelle something that smells as beautiful as it looks.

Just for the halibut I looked up Vermont Teddy Bear Co. which sends Bearo Grams and they have a figure skating bear here (http://store.yahoo.com/vtbear/figureskater.html) and you can get the bear in different fur colors.

Another flower ideas:
