View Full Version : DONATION UPDATE #6

First - To all the cat lovers on this board - Thank you all for your posts and emails regarding my kitty Ezmie. She was a long haired calico that bore a striking resemblance to Barbra Streisand. She actually was not a kitty physically - she was 16 years old! But she was my baby and she is very much missed. On a positive note, her brother Boozer (18 years old!) and sister Domino couldn't be more thrilled. Cats are very interesting creatures :) A new Barbra Streisand rose bush will be planted in her honor this weeked in a prominent place in my yard :)
Well, we finally have a new total and Heeeeeeeeeerrrrrrrrrrreeeeeeeeeeee it is!!!!!!
TEN THOUSAND TWO HUNDRED and FOUR Dollars and 74 cents
Simply amazing. And all for someone who is simply the best, from people who are simply the most generous and loyal supporters anyone could wish for. Michelle is going to be so pleased.
Heather - would you please stick this one to the top and release Mambo ~ ummmm I mean - Update #5?
Thank you all.
Anna

Wowzers, wowzers!!!! That's amazing.
I am so proud of everyone, and so proud that we can give something back to Michelle. When I read this, I was thinking about what Michelle did for all the fans the other night at COI.......and how wonderful that gesture was, how wonderful that she took the time to do that for all the fans. It proves her golden character.......that she's a VERY special person through and through........And with that, I hope that what we're doing here, that we can show Michelle how proud we are, how much we care and how much support we give her......it's already evident that she is very loved!!!! It's amazing......and I am touched by it all.
Okay, I rambled.

Absolutely amazing! I cannot wait until we are able to give her the gift and make the donation in her name.
How hilarious is it that you thought your kitty resembled Barbara Streisand?! I am sorry for your loss. I had a beloved kitty myself some years back that died of leukemia. Now I have a seven year old beagle who is my baby, and will remain so no matter how old he gets!

You all are simply incredible. I wish I had money to give to the fund, but I'll at least be happy that I am a part of the forum that has these wonderful people.
Michelle will be so thrilled with her gift (it might mean even more than the one she's been searching for).

Amazing!!!
Hey, Anna--I missed the post about the kitty. My condolences. My cat, Rainbow is a calico as well and Barbra Streisand is one of my favorites. I love the idea of the rose bush.

As a fellow cat lover and owner I am so sorry about your loss Anna. :( However I can see how you thought your kitty resembled Barbara S. because I have a long haired gray cat, a female, and see is such a diva! :lol I even thought about getting a Diana Ross-like diva outfit for her to wear for Halloween as a gag, but thought better of it when I thought about actually having to put it on her! :lol
All of us contibuting MK fans are just amazing! I really want to thank all of you who also took the time to contribute to this wonderful MKF project! I would reach across the computer screen to hug all of you if I could! :D

Amazing. :)
Anna-You may want to edit the title of the thread to say "Donation update" instead of just update, so if someone is looking for this fast, they'll know what it's about.
As always, thanks again for doing this. :)

Over $10,000.00 is amazing!!!
So glad you got mine, it was not too much but I had to somehow be a part of this wonderful thing being done for Michelle. I get to see her live in Cincinnati on Sunday night and I can't wait!
Sorry to hear about your cat, we have one in our household called blackie and she is very much a part of our family.

Anna, I am so sorry to hear about your cat. I love cats almost as much as I love Michelle, and you have my sympathy.
That total up there boggles the mind, completely. I have never been more proud to be a Michelle fan that I am right this minute. It just makes my heart happy to know how much our girl is loved by so very many wonderful people. I will say it again: I feel very fortunate just to be living in the same era of time and being able to experience her, because she truly is one of a kind. There could never be another like her, period.
I LOVE YOU GUYS!!!

Kwaners are awesome. I never imagined such a huge amount!
Anna, here's what's hopefully not a dumb questions, or one that's been asked: when, where, and how will Michelle be presented the medal? Or is that a secret at this point?
I'm sorry about your kitty. I had to put my sweet cat to sleep because of a painful disease at 13, so I understand how much you miss her.

SBMtnResident - Not a dumb question at all - however, I don't have an answer. We have a few ideas about the presentation, but we need to go one step at a time, so the next step is picking the medal and having it processed. Once we find out how long that takes, we can plan our presentation strategy.
Thanks for your kind words about my Ezmie.

I send my check to you today, it may not get there until mid to late of next week since the mail from MI to CA is kind of slow. :\ I am sorry to hear about your loss. My kitty had to be spayed today because of a rare hormone problem that was causing her to develop lumps, but those hopefully will go away. She won't get to come home until tomorrow, but the vet said she was very good and everything looks good. I know how hard it is to lose a cat, they really are like people and have their own unique personalities that can be very interesting. Our one cat is quite interesting, very spoiled and very stuck up, though she taught herself to use the toilet, loves to play in water, acts like Garfield, yet knows when you are upset, plus she is just so cute!

Anna,
I feel silly asking this but is it okay if I only send like 2 or 3 dollars. My fiance and I are both out of work right now, and we are getting married in July so our finances are totally tied up. I'd like to contributed, but can't give a lot. Just let me know.
Thanks :)

Hi, for those of you who have not heard about my poll, :D I have started a poll on "Michelle Kwan Projects" thread to find out how many of us want to have a two-sided medal now that we have exceeded our expectation on the donations, approaching $10,000! :) I also include a costs breakdown based on Skatingfan5's research.
Thanks for participating. :D

Golden Michelle -
Yes of course it is okay to donate only what you are comfortable with. Every little bit helps someone - since we will be giving the bulk of the money to a charity in MK's name.
Thanks!

My condolences about your cat, Anna. :(
I just cannot believe how much money we have raised. It is truly amazing. But when you think about how great Michelle is, and what great fans she has, I guess it's not quite so amazing! :) Like Cole50 said, I am so touched by this huge outpouring of love for Michelle. I am so excited to finish this project and present it to her and donate so much money to charity as well. This whole thing is so heartwarming. Okay, I'm getting really sappy, I'm sorry! lol
It is definitely true that every little bit helps, because if you look there are almost 4,000 members, and if each of them donated only $2 we'd already have $8,000! Not that everyone will neccessarily donate, but the amounts vary too. Just goes to show you how much a lot of little bits can add up! :)

Anna, I'm so sorry to hear about your kitty. My kitty is 18 years old and I've had him since he was 6 weeks. His eyesight is almost gone and he's having a lot of trouble doing simple things that he used to do, like jumping up on things and stuff, and it's so sad to watch him age before my eyes. But I thank God for him--he's been my constant companion through good times and bad.
Re: the donations, I think that Michelle will truly realize how incredibly special she is to so many people. This is simply amazing. I had no idea we'd get this much support. I am proud and humbled to be a part of the MKF. Love you guys!!!

I was just wondering what you meant by "...since we are giving the bulk of the money to a charity in MK's name." I hope that the "bulk" of the money goes to the medal. I want the best medal we can raise money for and and am under the impression that whatever is leftover will go to charity. I do hope that most of the $$ goes to the medal.
Thanks for all the hard work you are doing for this! I can't wait till it's all finished and we present a gorgeous medal to our girl! :)

Actually - the bulk of the money will go to charity, because the pricing estimates received so far seem to indicate that even the most expensive medal for Michelle will cost under $5000. So we will still have OVER $5000 to donate! Never fear - Michelle will get a magnificent medal.
Thanks to you and your mom for donating!

Thanks Anna for the reply, and also thanks for always listing that you got people's money, always nice to know that the US post office has delivered!
What's nice about raising so much $$ is that it we can afford a lovely presentation box if we want, or do something even more with the medal.

I'm glad to hear there is not a strict deadline for donations as I sent money by paypal last Friday. I hope I did it right and that it got there okay. I've never sent money to anything or anyone using that method. I too am astounded at the amount of money!!!! This is really so exciting.
Thanks to all those who are working so hard to make this such a great success.
