View Full Version : Will the world stop rotating IF Michelle doesn't win or

even medal??? What will happen if Michelle has a really "off" Worlds? Will people forget to breathe? Will her fans desert her and head for the hills? Will fans of other skaters call her a "has-been", "washed up", etc?
Out of all those things, the last question is far more likely to happen than any other. Why is that? Because there are so-called "figure skating fans" out there who only like one skater and one skater only. While there are many excellent, even outstanding, skaters in this competition, they can't see it.
Gee, Michelle is going into the SP tied for 3rd place. She's been down before. She may not win. She may not even medal. (And, no, I do not believe in skate gods. I don't believe anyone tempts them when you speak in realistic terms either)
Sasha just may win. Good for her. She's long overdue, IMO. Shizuka may win. Good for her too. She is long overdue, IMO. Ando may win. Good for her even though it's her first Worlds. What a wonderful thing that would be for the rising young skater.
Michelle made a mistake. She didn't practice on the event ice therefore she couldn't feel it under her until it was too late. You won't see her make that mistake again.
What should you expect to see from Michelle? Fire! Yes, fire! She will be mad at herself and she will come out like gangbusters. What should you expect to see from Sasha? I expect the same thing. More confidence. What should you expect from Shizuka? A strong will to win and the ability to do so. And from Ando? A desire to be on the podium, maybe even win.
For some, like Irina, just to move up and skate well. The same for Fumie. And I expect Jenny Kirk to strive to be on the podium as well, if that's possible.
But will the world stop revolving if Michelle isn't on top or even on the podium at all? No. Because Michelle will always be who she is; a warm, wonderful human being who just happens to be a great skater. Sometimes I seriously think people lose sight that she truly is human.

A really extraordinary one, I might add. But true, world won't end. We've been there as they say. We only end up loving her more everytime no matter what happens. Go Michelle!

very well said, realistic. Couldn't agree more.
This is just a sport after all. It's not life or death. Personally, I am looking forward to a fierce competition. Hopefully, MK will skate with fire and be satisfied with her programs.

IMO, what's the sense of even talking about this when their are still two phases to go?
I choose to wait and see what transpires!
Regardless of what happens Michelle will be fine!
If she weren't to win or medal I'll avoid this board for a while simply because you'll have people coming out of the woodworks whimpering(she lost), whining(why???), and gloating(her career is over)!
Some have a tendency to be quite immature
and become alarmist when life doesn't go the
way they want it!
I choose to stay positive and supportive
of Michelle in the up swing and down!
That being said,
it's far from over and Kwan the tiger
will make her appearance and make
her presense felt Friday & Saturday!

I think the world will be shocked if MK doesn't medal. For her to not medal would mean she would have to melt down and not perform typical MK skating. I think MK's B-Game can win a medal in this field.

No, the world won't stop if MK doesn't win. Now that we've established that...I hope that Michelle can deliver two performances that she can be proud of.

Yep!
Funny thing, every time I think about or hear someone mention Michelle and the tiger that lurks under the surface when in competition I alwas hear the song "Golden Eye" by Tina Turner in the back of my head!:lol

Thanks Kabooke and Terri77. I realize that some people are waiting for some MK fans to implode or turn homocidal if Michelle doesn't win. That's not what love is about. I'll accept any outcome, but hope for Michelle to do her best! LOL! I would be happy just to see her stroke around the ice all day. :b FIRE!!!

However, who knows what tomorrow brings? ;)

Well, I'm sure the world will keep on turning, and I know I won't jump out of any buildings :lol ... But I won't be a happy camper if Michelle doesn't medal.
There are some sports where I like many of the competitors, and I don't mind who wins as long as it's a good competition. In figure skating though, I most definitely have my favorite ... and if she doesn't win, I will get no joy from whoever does win. If that makes me an evil fanatic ... oh well. I've been called worse. :rollin

The world won't stop, it never does. She has up years and she has down years. And one thing remains constant throughtout-The MkForum.
I may not visit another board if Michelle has another off night. But no matter how many trolls there are out there, there is more positive than negative on this board. And I will take comfort in knowing that my family here feels the same way that I do.
With that said, my gut is telling me that it "ain't" over. Whether Michelle medals or wins, she will deliver her best. And I will proudly take that any day no matter what the end result.

Are you kidding me with this? I had to laugh yesterday when someone told me to clam down. Gee, I am calm, but while I'm on MKF, Michelle losing is a big deal. However, when I get offline and engage in my "real life" I won't think about it for a moment. So, can we please just have fun guessing and fretting about how the competition may turn out? Heck ya, I'm still going to yell at the TV if MK doesn't do well... isn't that part of the fun of sport?

The World won't stop turning for me. But, Am going to continue to keep my fingers crossed for her. It is an uphill battle.
Any medal of any type I will be content with. But, I am still Wishing.

First of all, graciesfriend, your post cracked me up. So did Kwanette's right after it.:rollin
Yes, Cordelia, I am totally serious with this thread. There are some fans that are totally freaked out over MK's QR. Then there are those who know that she's come back fighting when she's been down before. And there are those who can't "turn it off" once they are away from the computer. That's just the life of a fan.
To me, Michelle winning or losing isn't important. And that was the gist of my initial post. Would the world stop revolving? Obviously, according to graciesfriend, we have at least a billion years to wait for that to happen.:rollin

Yes it is true that the world won’t stop spinning. However I do feel saddened for the millions of chickens out there who are losing their lives over this because of all of Michelle’s fans’ nerves. ;)

I really haven't seen people freaking out but then I don't visit a lot of different boards. It seems to me that the mood here has been pretty optimistic. OTOH, my world as I know it will end if she doesn't win. j/k
I think everyone here has made it clear that we're behind her regardless of what place she ends up in. I just really hope she's pleased with her next two skates.

realistic, maybe they are wondering why we are expected to be PC on a skater specific board. I think it goes without saying that no one is going to slit their throat if Michelle doesn't win or medal. But it should be ok if we say we would like her to. I cheer for a whole lot of skaters but there are some I would not like to see do their ultimate best because I don't want them to beat Michelle. So I don't want anyone to land a quad or 3/3 if that would put them over Michelle. If that makes me a mean horrible person, so be it. I always want Michelle to win everything-I know that won't happen but that's what I wish for. I think that's how any normal fan feels about their favorite.

There are 3 phases to this competition, not one. Didn't we learn that with the men, when so many were predicting a loss of 2 spots on the men's world team next year, and we ended up with 2 men in the top 6 ? :eek

Amen, friend! That is me to a T! However, although I may get no *initial* joy from the person that does win (I'm finally getting to where I get a li'l giddy watching Sarah Hughes in SLC), I do get joy just from watching MK skate... be it the performance of her life or one where she falls on her bottom repeatedly. I love this gal! I've been watchin' her for years and one li'l world championships isn't gonna stop me! Worst case scenario... say she doesn't land a medal spot (HIGHLY unlikely), think of how ON FIRE she will be for the next two seasons... and one of those seasons just happens to play host to the one title that she has yet to win.
So am I worried? Maybe a li'l jittery, but I think Ms. Kwan will be just fine and I think her true fans will continue to love her. Heck, most of us have loved her straight on through two Olympic dissapointments... one World Championship isn't the hugest lose. ;)

Yes,it will cease to rotate. This is why the US Govtmt. and NASA have invested so much in researching other planets. If Michelle has to settle for anything less than gold,a few Earthlings with the mega mucho $$$$$$ will buy tickets for Mars.

Guys..don't forget..Michelle has been World Champion since 1996 and although she has won most of the titles, she has not won every single world championship since. Don't forget there was 97-Lipinski, 99-Maria B., and 02-Irina..who has all won world titles in between. My point is, Michelle hasn't won all of the World titles and we have all survived!!! So its OK!! If there is a new world champion then let it be...like Michelle has said before, its only a sport!! So relax....and watch..Michelle will be fine!! :SS

No it won't be the end of the world but it'll definitely feel like it is. Yeah so I'm selfish because I want Michelle to win and win. A part of me is overcome with emotion when she skates her best even if she doesn't win; '97 Worlds is a perfect example. But a greater part of me is overwelmed with the awe and amazement when she wins, knowing she skated her best.
Keep on breaking those records Michelle.

A World medal, even bronze, will prevent the Earth from stopping.I've been assured by the "skate gods" that if worse comes to worse and Michelle fails to medal, she won't be fired from the USFSA or the ISU.Even Michael Jordan didn't win em all. To win,she has to beat Cohen and Sokolova tomorrow and either win the round or let Liashenko win and then whup Elena L along with everyone else on Saturday.Otherwise, most of us are bound for da moon because we can't afford a condo on Mars.

The real "The Day the Earth Stood Still" will happen when she regains the title for the fourth time!
