Hi. I read the FAQ and I didn't see anything about this, but I knew that we aren't supposed to sell anything with our posts or anything like that. So I was wondering if there was a problem with the movie promotion in my signature. I don't think anything is wrong with it because I am not profitting from what the movie makes lol. I just wanted to make sure.

I think it's OK. As you said, it isn't as if you're the producer or director. Just remember to turn it off if you post more than once in a thread. And remember to remove it after October. :)

I didn't think we had to turn off the signature unless there was a picture/banner in it?

I think that the signature rule effects all signatures. I think it is primarily in place because of images in signatures and long signatures, both of which clutter up the board and make it take longer to load.

If I remember correctly, it only affects graphics within signatures. There shouldn't be a rule against only text, I don't think.

I would actually prefer that all siggys be turned off after the first post in a thread. It's distracting to me to read the same quote five or six times in the same thread. And even though it's only text, it does make the threads longer so they take (at least a little) longer to load.
JMO.
I'm checking with the other mods to get a concensus.

Hi Michellesmom,
I'd say I have to agree with you. I think that it's a lot better if they turn off their siggy once it's been used in a thread, even if the siggy is text based. Just like you said it will help the thread load faster. :)

From Forum FAQ:
4. Do not post a signature banner/picture more than once in the same thread (jump down for how to turn off your signature).
This says nothing about text signatures. Sorry guys, but I think this is going a little too far.

had my signature messed up anyway, so I couldn't post it in the preceding post.

As scheherazade stated, the rule as written applies only to signatures with pictures/banners.
I do not think it should be applies to text signatures.

As the FAQ is written at the moment, it does just say for graphics. However, I do think signatures that have tons of lines should be turned off after the first post. Since it's not in the FAQ, I would say that it would be *appreciated* if members do that, but at this time, it isn't enforced.
For example, a signature with a few lines (name/website/one or two quotes) is fine. An example in this thread would be scheherazade's.
A signature that's too long to be posted more than once is something like this:
Heather
Visit my site!
~I love Michelle. Michelle is great. Go Michelle!
~I love skating. Skating is great. Go Skating!
~I hate rain. Rain stinks. Go away Rain!
~Everyone go buy Clay Aiken's album on October 14~
~I'm going to Skate America, are you?
~TV Season is starting soon! Woohoo TV!
As it is not in the FAQ at the moment, again, it's not required. But it would be nice to think about whether your signature is too long to be posted more than once in a thread.
Another rule of thumb is if your signature is longer than what you're actually posting. If you're just posting a "yes, me too!" post, and then you have a LONG signature, then it's really a waste of space to have your signature there again.
Hope that makes sense. While images are the main problem when it comes to signatures, if everyone posts 15 lines as their signature in every thread, it will make the page load slower. I'd never cap a limit to the number of lines allowed per signature, but it would be nice to think if it's necessary to post it more than once per thread.
And, to the original question, it's fine to promote a movie, tv show, etc in a sig. :)

LOL bwheeler! I saw the thing about the cows in the FAQ, but I thought maybe you had a special story concerning cows separate but also related to it that inspired your quote :)
