Just wondering! I thought it was pretty good and not off topic. Then I guessed maybe it was because of the ice cream bet. Seems a little early to be locking a thread where 2 people agreed to disagree.

It was closed because of a post after that which I hid. It had to potential for becoming a posting war, which is why it was closed.

huh? i thought that the thread was heading in a good direction after some bumpiness. the posters seemed to handle a situation where they disagreed without name calling or pettiness. i thought it was a good example of people agreeing to disagree without ugliness. couldn't you have juse deleted the later, offending post that nobody saw and let the tread continue? oh well...:\

I asked for the thread to be closed. It was mean spirited . You can find my request to close under the title "skating chat" on this page. My request should answer any questions. I objected to the entire tone of the thread, not any particular posting.

I'm sorry. I disagree with the closing of this particular thread. It was going quite well because it was being handled in a mature, adult manner (with a little bet on the side).

I can understand AshleyL hiding/removing one post that may have been way out of line, but the entire thread wasn't. I was going to post there but it was closed before I could. I thought it was going in a pretty decent direction.

I figure if you don't like a thread, don't read it. Which leads to my question? Why is a thread closed if only ONE person has a problem with it? What if the people who are posting on the thread don't feel bashed, insulted, etc and want to continue the discussion?

It's one thing if it takes on a too personal tone and one of the posters involved is offended. I guess I must be nuts because if I don't like the tone of a thread, I just quit reading it and leave it be.:evil

Oh well, I'm not here to cause trouble at all. I'd just like an answer if I can get one. Thank you.:)

I think there was more than one person dissatisfied with this particular thread if you read through it. I just happened to be the one to report it. As I said in my original complaint, there is no reason to start bashing other posters, other skaters, and skating comentators. This was an extremely negative thread, I haven't changed my mind in my assessment of remarks made about other skaters(other than Michelle), other posters, and Dick and Peggy.

That's fine, beachgirl. I disagree with your assessment of that thread. But it's closed now. I just wanted an answer for why a thread would be closed that only one poster may have had an issue with. I didn't get an answer, but I didn't really expect one either. Sometimes you just have to let it go and that's what I think I'll do.

As I have already stated. If you read the thread, there was more than one poster objecting to the direction the thread was taking and the bashing. I think that is a very good answer to your question.

beachgirl, I actually wanted an answer from AshleyL if she saw the bashing of posters/commentators/skaters that you saw. Obviously at least ONE post (which Ashley hid or deleted) deserved to be removed according to her. I respect that. But I just re-read the entire thread, and I see no one there having the same problems you did with it. As a matter of fact, the two posters, redvispa and sk8cynic, ended up with a friendly bet for ice cream. They were the only two who were disagreeing with each other.

I'm sorry, but I just wanted to know why (other than your reason) the thread was closed for someone who didn't even post on the thread. But that's fine. The thread's closed. I'm done with it. I apologize if I've offended anyone for questioning this, but I actually thought it was a good topic. I guess I just view things differently.:(

It's JMO, but, I think that since new mods have been appointed, they are closing threads and deleting threads too quickly.
Do you really want a board where everyone has to think and say the exact thing or the thread will be closed or deleted?
What a boring board that would be!
Heather and Jenny were a little more laid back about these things.
I think the new moderators should ease up a little.
JMO.

No, we absolutely do not. You know that I'm against censorship, and not everyone needs to agree. I think the moderators are finding their way through this process, and I hope other forum members will allow them the courtesy of working out kinks. I can guarantee you that just weeks after we starting moderating, it wasn't the easiest thing in the world. And Jenny and I did not have to start right away with over 5600 members. Every new situation is a learning experience (LOL, I think I'm making this into a bigger deal than it is.)

I think this particular thread has run it's course (no, I'm not going to close it ;) ) A thread was closed, and some thought it shouldn't have been. That's been discussed. Someone asked why it was closed, and that was answered. End of story. Let's move on.
