Does antone know how easy it is to get a cab in DC? Are they all over, or only in certain areas? Also, does anyone know how much cab fare is? Never had to take one before...

I'm staying there, too. Thanks for asking the same questions I need to get answers to!

I am also staying at Hyatt. I have been trying to gauge on map how far from MCI and gather info on the metro. Traveling together as a group is a great idea.

I'm not familiar with DC, but you can almost always get a cab at a hotel, so if you are at MCI and can't get a cab just go to the Metro Center or Grand Hyatt and I bet you'll be able to get a cab from there, although you'll have to tip the doorman who calls it for you.

Cabs are easy to get downtown, especially after events at MCI. The cabbies will literally be lined up wanting business. Be aware that DC cabs use a zoning system not metered. Cabbies usually don't rip tourists off by saying they crossed a zone when they did not, but there have been cases. Basically, be aware of the zoning system before hand. Most cabbies will tell you what the cost will be before you leave, if you ask. You can always ask them to drop you off before entering a new zone, if the walk is short to your hotel and you wish not to pay for an extra zone.

I think I am staying at the same hotel. Is it the one at 400 NJ Ave NW?
I will be arriving on Friday ( 3/28 ) just before the Ladies Short program. I would love to meet up as a group and travel to the shows together. If anyone staying here wants to exchange cell phones, let me know. My e-mail is aliceandnick@yahoo.com.

I know nothing about DC cab fares, but from my map, the distance isn't too far. I'm guessing it'd be an okay walk in good weather. Looks like your walk to the nearest metro station is about 1/3-1/2 the distance to the arena, so that probably doesn't save you much. So I can't imagine it being a very expensive cab ride home at night or if it's raining cats and dogs.
PS there's also a Grand Hyatt at Metro Center right by the convention center.

Thanks for the info Pamby! I think the Grand Hyatt is one of the official skaters hotels.
