I hope that you will get this letter via Michelle's Forum. I have been wanting to write you a note for a long time now, but did not know how reach you. Hopefully your precious michelle will someday read this and forward it to you.

I have been watching your beautiful daughter glide on the ice for about six years now, and she grows richer in grace and personality. She is the epitome of every parent's dream that their sibling will mature with the humbleness and honesty that your child have displayed. I know that we don't see much of Karen or your son, but I'm sure that they too, display in their daily lives the same values and appreciation for life that you have bestowed upon them. I have never seen Michelle express despair or hard feelings when towards anyone after a not so great performance. And that I commend the both of you in the development of such extraordinary individuals.

My father was an immigrant from the Philippines who came to Hawaii in search for a better life and opportunities. He married my mom who was a first generation sibling born here on Maui. Growing up we didn't have much but our house was full of love and support. They taught us that values such as honesty, being humble and thankful for what we received and for the people around us. They instilled in us to have faith in ourselves and God. Ironically, I see the same values in Michelle and I wanted to thank you for sharing her with our household. Michelle is a household name. My husband and I have watched every competition since 1993 and will continue to do so.

I have a daughter who is attending Pacific University in Oregon. She will be 20 come March 18 and it was because of her that we started to follow Michelle. She was so awed by her attitude as well as her performance that Michelle became a role model for her. In high school Lauren played basketball,( No iceskating here in Hawaii. ) She wasn't the best player, but she had the best attitude. Why? What mattered to her was that she played her best in a game and at the same time have fun! And I have Michelle to thank.

Here is wishing that Michelle will continue to follow her heart , do well in her endeavors and have fun doing it. I am so proud of her decision to go to UCLA and still pursue skating. You have to proud of her . I know you are. And lastly, we are proud of you both.

Aloha
