For the few momemts I spoke to you when I gave you flowers (the vibrant fuchsia/purple orchids reminded me of your "rush" dress) you might not have made sense of my ramblings due to my nervousness and my laryngitis. On the miraculous chance (after the Sears Open it seems that miracles are more prevalent than ever) that you or anyone close to your inner circle reads this board, I hope the following words will make more sense than my ramblings.
It was breathtaking to finally see with my own eyes the pure excellence of your skating. I should apologise for the farcical circumstances you skated into, but I feel that I don't have to because, at the tender age of 20 you have experienced quite a lot of skating's pendulous standards. You have more courage than I to remain true to yourself and your inate high skating standards regardless of the marks. I can't imagine the frustrations you must feel being held to a standard of perfection and beyond, while others who reach for it and fall short time & time again are awarded for the attempt. It must get tiresome sometimes having to wade through all the various expectations of the press, ISU, USFSA, and people who respect your talent and hard work.
Having watched your public journey for over 6 years, this phrase from Maya Angelou's poem describes your perseverance and courage to believe in yourself:
" AND STILL I RISE"
Here's hoping that throughout your 2000-2006 skating seasons, you will continue to create colourfull tapestries of emotions each time you step unto your canvas of ice.
THANK YOU!!!!!
