USFS hired a new Associate Exec Director and he has a lot experience negotiating media contracts for various sports. I hope this is good news for FS fans (just so he doesn't have all the skaters wearing cowboy hats :silly )

James J. Fox Hired as Associate Executive Director for U.S. Figure Skating

U.S. Figure Skating is pleased to announce the hiring of James J. (Jim) Fox as associate executive director. Fox has extensive background in the Olympic movement as the former director of broadcast marketing for the United States Olympic Committee (USOC) and executive director of USA Boxing and USA Weightlifting.

Fox most recently worked as the director of sponsorship and licensing for the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA). He will begin his position with U.S. Figure Skating on Jan. 3.

Boxing?? Weightlifting?? Rodeo??? Sounds like a great resume to prepare him to represent figure skating. Last time I looked, the only one that has much representation is...rodeo - just the "bull-riding part. I'll reserve judgment. Sounds like they may have bought into another snow job.

Agreed mmg. I feel the snow falling in July, and I'm in S. FL.

What the sport needs is Michelle Kwan. Maybe now she will be appreciated for what she did for figure skating. She always talks about what it's done for her - such class, but she kept interest in the sport going for a long time.

The article posted from USFS is dated 1/2/07. Here is a current article from The London Press, 7/25/07 (canoe.ca), "Reception poor for TV skating." Although the article is about TV coverage in Canada, mention is also made of TV coverage in the U.S.

The one remark about no worlds in the US is simply wrong -- the ISU/ESPN deal will run through Worlds '08. What will happen after that is anyone's guess (but NBC wanted the pre-Oly Nats, so I assume it will also want the pre-Oly Worlds, especially since it is currently scheduled to be held in Los Angeles)
