..then what would she be? (I'm calming down after reading the 2 long-program thread) MK often describes herself as an instrument on the ice, but she never says what kind. I kind of think that she could be a violin (not just because of TRV). A violin's sound is soft yet it can be used in tense moments. If you listen to one, sometimes it sounds like a human voice, and it's so emotional. What are your choices?

Either a violin, cello, bass, harp, or piano. Why? No reason, I'm just partial to these particular instruments.

I think the viola its more dark and passionate then the violin and Michelle is more of the dark and passionate type when it comes to her skating.

Although a violin would be a good representation of her depth and spirit, I think physically she is a flute. Graceful, thin and strong! Anna

I agree ciolin and piano are great choices. I also liked the idea of Michelle as a harp since she is an angel on ice and angels frequemtly are associated with harps :-)

I think Michelle would be bag pipes. Just kidding. I also think she would be a violin because like many of ya said it can play intense music, kind of upbeat music (I think it's violins in Shania Twain's music...) and soft music... it's not just one type of music, just like MK is not one type of skater. :)

piano: has ivory's...that are often 'tickled' flute: slim and silver; air is blown into one end and its buttons are frequently pressed harp: big, gold, and high strung bass: big, low, and masculine. with the shape of a woman bagpipe: a bag with pipes. ------------------------------------------------ personally I think Michelle would be a violin...perhaps a...red violin?

Oooh -- cool thread! My first pick would be the human voice, since there's no other instrument that can completely capture the full range of emotions. As far as a played instrument goes, I'd pick the oboe -- it can be light and airy, or very soulful.

French Horn. It can play a sweet melody, a lighthearted piece, or a dramatic piece. Also, the horn has a 4 octave range, and MK has a huge range of skills that she puts together in each of her masterpieces.

Considering the responses have ranged from violin to bag pipes, I have to agree with the person who said that "Michelle is like the whole orchestra." LOL!!! She helps me feel the music so much when she skates. When the violin plays, she becomes the violin. In the case of the Red Violin, she was a tormented violin. When the harp plays, she's the harp-Lyra. When the piano plays, her skates strike the chords of the music-Rach. When there is a crescendo of music, she is the entire orchestra--East of Eden is a great showcase of her with many individual instruments and a finale of the whole orchestra. WOW! I love this thread. Thanks for starting it...

ITA with you, Littlepang. At times she's a single instrument as in Red Violin. But most of the time or at least by the end of the music, she is or has been the entire orchestra. She uses ALL of the music so effectively. Take Fate of Carmen. I know a lot of people are lukewarm on this program, but I love the footwork sequence--it is perfected to the type of music and percussion instrument used. And towards the end, when she dramatically snaps her hands forward, backwards, etc, to the stucatto chords of the orchestra, is just gives me goosebumps. Very few skaters could use this type of music and make it interesting. Lori Nichols & Frank are the most creative choreographers. And, Michelle is absolutely fabulous at understanding what they want and pulling it off to absolute perfection, with drama, passion, and musicality. She is a one woman orchestra on skates!!!
