Moderator Post – MK Poems
Post your odes to Michelle and other Michelle-related poems here. Poems must be G- or PG-rated. The deadline is 11:59pm Eastern Standard Time on Friday, December 1st. Once all poems have been posted, I will start a poll for everyone to vote for their favorite.
The winner will receive the title of "MKF Poet Laureate" for 6 months. Or until the next poetry contest, whichever comes first.

Okay, I guess someone has to start. So here's my entry. :)
05/03/03
Ballerina on the ice.
Angelical beauty, so concise.
Natural artistry of a delicate swan;
The talented works of Michelle Kwan.
Ballerina on the ice.
Facing challenge, and yet so precise.
Arabesque with no disgrace
As we saw the desire on Michelle's face.
Ballerina on the ice.
Deserved admiration, and still precise.
The appreciated artistry of the delicate swan;
Five Golden moments for Michelle Kwan.

I am by no means a poet....but I thought I'd try :)
Michelle Kwan
In 96’ she was young and sweet
An innocent girl, yet still so unique
Romanza showed us the flair to come
While Salome shocked us all when she won
In 97’ we watched as her world fell down
The doubts, the fears, all showed in her frown
Dream of Desdomona, so beautiful and strong
Taj Mahal was great, but the fight may have been gone
In 98’ the new Michelle arrived
She just floated on the ice, so soft, and thrived
Rachmaninoff became a beauty to behold
While Lyra Angelica became the great skaters mold
The Nagano Olympics broke our hearts
She skated so well, but maybe without that spark
Her true beauty, her self, really did still show
The silver was great, although it was not gold
In 99’ the “haircut of the diva” appeared
She lost the world title, but still gave us happy tears
Carmen was real, all most like Witt’s
D’Ariane, so brilliant, as good as it gets
2000 came and she still wouldn’t quit
“She’s to old”, “She’s done” She didn’t care about all that sh** (crap? :))
A day in the life, more relaxed and bold
With The Red Violin, she said “I’m not that old!”
2001 she again proved she was real
The passion, the fire, she was still the deal
East of Eden was pure, just like sunlight
While The Black Swan showed us, she really could still fight
2002 came, and the Olympics were now
She trained, she focused, and made us all say “wow”
A return of the great Rach was so smart
And Scheharazade got most of us in our hearts
The Salt Lake games were going to be her’s
In her home country, we all ready had the h’orderves
A little bit slow, and that damn triple flip
But a second medal proved, her career wouldn’t be just a blip
She returned in ’03, determined to stay strong
While most of her counterparts, were a long time gone
The feeling begins gave us all that high
While Aranjuez made us all again cry
In ’04 she rach'ed, with passion and heart
And even a streaker, couldn’t change her part
A second helping of The Feeling Begins came again
And Tosca, the opera, resulted in many wins
In '05 she sored, to even more hights
With Glitter in her eyes, she used all her might
Spartacus showed the passion was still strong
And Bolero proved that she would never be gone
Now in ’06, her career still not done
She’s pursuing other interests, but still has the hearts she has won
We’ll all look back, with out a real frown
Because deep down we all know, she really has the crown
ALL HAIL THE QUEEN
ETA: '05 part :)

Thank You
Ponytail in the wind
she spun with control
her heart on her sleeve
and baring her soul
Little girl, big smile
so light on her feet
the edging, the control
just couldn't be beat
she's taken us in
along for the ride
through happy or sad
we're there by her side
Floating and flying
She's music on ice
On that kind of artistry
You can't put a price
Rondo gave smiles
Romanza gave spark
she's been our light
when certain times were dark
The beauty and grace
That she can encompass
Her courage and maturity
Continue to stump us
A legend in her time
And always will be
Michelle is how goodness
Is defined to me
But dwell on the past
We shant for too long
Good things are to come
This isn't her last song
We'll be right here waiting
Whatever she decides
Amateur or professional
For her, we'll abide
Thank you Michelle
for all that you are
No matter what comes
You're always our star

I remember a post from several years ago, where a member described meeting the Kween in a hotel lobby. The Kween was wearing a bandana, and the member complimented her on its appearance, to which the Kween replied, “I’m a pirate.”
It seemed so funny. How could our sweet, gentle angel be a bloodthirsty pirate?
But, then I considered the Kween’s qualities of courage, indomitable will and passion and wrote this poem.
The Pirate Queen
Sailing spiral, steady strong
Seductive swelling siren song
Gorgeous swathed in velvet azure
Beauty’s not her only dagger
Blades that cut precision measure
Quest for secret buried treasure
Flying falling leaf proclaim
Gravity and fears are slain
Vengeance against apprehension
Courageous slayer of trepidation
Jolly Rani’s cannon fire
Destroys the ego’s false desires
This brigand captured wisdom’s wealth
To craft her motto, “Be yourself”
Transcendent over sport and art
Oh, buccaneer that plunders hearts!

Herr Drosselmeier, your poem is just wonderful.
I tend not to write poetry, but Michelle is inspiration for anything.
"Constellation"
She is a star, so shining high,
The others crowd around her.
They jump, they soar, they leap, they fly,
Then fall to earth without her.
She is the sun, she is the moon,
Sparkling gold and silver.
She jumps, she soars, she leaps, she flies,
With movements like a river.
Clouds appear, yet still she shines,
A bronzed and golden goddess.
Passionate, joyous, ageless, timeless,
A nova far and high.
But now the moon, the stars are dark,
And shadow blights the day.
But like a comet streaming fast,
She'll ever light our way.

I am happy that you enjoyed "The Pirate Queen."
Reading your "Constellation" brightened my day.
It is so nice to see her painted in galactic dimension.

Well, HD, we all know Michelle is a superstar. (time out for groans).
I didn't mean to single out any one person's poetry. Everyone's is wonderful, and every poem captures Michelle's essence. The talent in this group is amazing.

I read everyone's poems so far, they are so good they inspired me! So I gave it a try.
Here's this, hope its not too too long! Maybe I'll edit it later:P
Pretty
I needed to see East of Eden today.
It was a day full of cold and rain
and dull, unfocused light.
A day that stands on your shoulders
and pulls them down until
its hard to even move.
I tried to think of sunlight, or
that picture I saw the other day.
But I needed something more.
Something with more than just pretty.
So I stole a minute
And I finally found it
and on it came,
With dull voices rambling on on
"She needs this to win..."
"She has to land that or else..."
(If only I could mute it and just their voices would go.)
But then there is Michelle, and everything goes silent.
She is very pretty,
pretty dress
pretty face
pretty smile
with so much more than pretty behind it.
The music starts and
she begins to glide,
carving smooth
curve and edge into
blue-white ice.
I and her audience
sit mesmerized by the
wonder
of what we see.
She skates with eyes
arms and
heart wide open
Telling us what she is feeling
And knowing that we understand.
Then amid the thundering ovation, the voices come again.
"Well....ya think she did it??"
"I don't know so and so did this and such jump..."
"And this one won that competition..."
"Did she up the ante enough?"
They don't understand.
What we saw was pretty
pretty technique
and choreography
pretty movement
footwork
line and
style
With so much more than pretty behind it.
We have watched an artist at work,
with great love and care, craft
knowing, wise and most
heart-felt beauty
onto the ice.
Yeah...
That's what I needed to see.

I would think you could change it up until judging time. Thats just my opinion. You're still the one writing it and what not.

OK, deadline was last week. My bad for not closing this at the deadline but I was busy still coaching my cheerleaders in the Superbowl. Now that that's over, it's time to commence voting.
