I was just watching that NBC repeat of the world pros...I must say first...MK never ever bores me...no matter how many many many many many many many many times I've seen a performance!!! OK...now EOE... What is the 1 thought that comes to mind with the most recent EOE???...IMO...EOE is full of spirals!!!...The spirals in there are so magical...it's got some many directions...

It's funny that you bring up EOE because I just got Cherie's best of mk tape this week and I watched EOE several times the other night (from world pro's). I'm not exactly sure what makes it so magical- the music, the choreography, or just Michelle's gracefulness, but I kept rewinding and rewatching that performance- atleast 8 times the other night, I couldn't get enough of it!! It is definately my favorite music that MK has ever used, probably my #1 fave program now. Does anybody know where I can get that music from?

I taped it so I could have it with just performances...it is magical...the music is magnificent, so poignant, she is so light and peaceful, those spirals, falling leaf, and her HEAD...I mentioned that before...Could Sandra have been any more effusive in her praise? Karin, you and I would have been on our feet a minute and ten seconds before the end....wonderful!

I was just sitting around and I turn on the tv and there's mk...but it was the end of her program! I couldn't believe I missed it; if only I had turned on the tv a couple minutes earlier *sigh* oh well.

I absolutely love East of Eden. . .to me, it IS skating. My favorite part is where she holds her hands behind her back and just glides across the ice. To quote Peggy, "she is just so special!" :)

I too love the part where she skates with her hands behind her back, I wish she had skated a few more seconds like that. The look on her face is so natural. That's one of the best parts of Michelle's skating IMO. You hear alot of skaters talk about what they want to portray on the ice or how they work on their facial expressions but it seems like with Michelle, it's natural. Almost like she skates for herself (not in a selfish way), but doesn't try to put on a show for the audience, just skates what she's feeling. Maybe it's not natural and she has to work hard to make it look natural but if it's not you sure can't tell!

I thought it was going to be Ariane on the World Pros repeat, so I didn't bother to watch. I didn't keep EOE before, but now I've been wanting to get it on tape...

What makes Michelle's skating so special, and EOE portrays this perfectly, is that Michelle skates to feed her soul and to give some piece of that the audience when she skates. Unlike other skaters, even really really really good ones, who generally come across when they skate as if they're saying to the audience, "lookie what I can do!". Paul Wylie is another example of a skater who skates to feed his soul. When both Michelle and Paul are finished with a program you are left with the feeling that they are totally fulfilled from what they just did, rather than that they are so pleased with their performance. They both leave you with the impression that even if there was not one single soul in the audience they would still have skated exactly the same way, because they needed to to it just to stay alive.

I cried for the first time since 98 nationals. I couldn't understand how a rerun could do this plus although I like eoe it was not my favorite but for some reason it really mesmerized me this time. Has that ever happened to you guys? I am waiting for another performance like this with her aditl and red violin. I really hope that it happens this season and then the olympics of course.

I didn't watch the rerun, but I remember the performance, and agree with all the great comments about it. Unfortunately, the show aired against the Grand Slam Pros, in which I had already invested two episodes' worth of viewing, so I watched that instead. (Plus, I can watch the World Pros anytime, because I taped them). The one thing that annoys me on an annual basis is that after the World Pros event is held in December, they always show a rerun of the previous year's competition on TV. How maddening! They never show the current year's event until mid-January. Does anyone have any clue what the reason for this is (except to aggravate me, which is probably one of the reasons!). I remember that I wanted to watch Michelle's first World Pro without knowing the results (though the outcome wasn't difficult to guess). But I couldn't wait for an entire month to find out! I realize that 99% of skating is like that, but it still bothers me. Can you imagine if every basketball game played wasn't aired until the next week? What an uproar there would be then. Why do we skating fans put up with it? If I were the activist type, I'd start a petition, a boycott of the networks, and an all-around fuss. Fortunately, I'm more of a couch potato at heart! :-)

I just wanted to tell the whole wide world that the "East of Eden" music that Michelle skates to makes my older sister cry. I love the music though and it makes me "joyful". :)

East of Eden is wonderful because of the choreography, the music, the gracefulness, it's just so magical!

I did a search on Border's web site. I think this is correct. Can someone verify it? http://search.borders.com/fcgi-bin/db2www/search/search.d2w/Details?&mediaType=Music&prodID=15309599

I had the priviledge of watching it life, it was magical. Since I did not attend her immortal performances of sp, and lp in Philadelphia 98 nationals, world pro 98 is my highest real life experience of watching Michelle. Thumpers the cd title like Kwanette said is Charles Gerhardt conducts the film music of Lee Holdridge. Label : citadel cd # STC 77103. I think any local music store can order it for it, it took about 3 weeks for mine to arrive. You can also order it through www. amazon.com

I can't even imagine being there in person to see Michelle skate to EOE and Ariane. One of my former students who goes to GW in Washington, DC was there to see MK and her fav...Todd...she said it was unbelievable. Everytime I watch it ...5 minutes ago along with the sp from SC...I can't believe how georgeous it is. I love listening to Sandra's commentary...especially when they re-show the falling leaf....Truly amazing.....

East of Eden, one of the most magnificent programs of Michelle's is one of my favourites! An event occured several weeks ago when one of nurses began humming this music. I am a nursing student, (to fulfill your curiosity,) and I asked her in amusement, "did you hear that song from a figure skater?"; she replied "pardon me?" Therefore, I concluded that she had certainly not learned that song from Michelle.

Kwanette or skatingfan, OK, I finally found it at amazon.com but on the cd there are 6 different track listings for east of eden. Which track does Michelle use or does she use more than one? BTW, I am getting ready to order it but just wanted a preview.

Thumpers: Over the years, Michelle has used two of the tracks from the CD. At the 1993 US Olympic Festival and the 1994 Worlds, she used part of Track 6 at the beginning of the program and then the music switched to something else. Track 6 is the "Main Title". However, the track she used for the 1998 World Pro and for the 1996 World Exhibition is Track 11 the "Finale." By the way, I LOVE THIS MUSIC! Hope this helps!!! : )
