View Full Version : Should MK switch to tan skates or boot covers?

What do you think? Really - think about it:). I would normally say "no" because I think white skates look more like the classic pure skater that MK is, *BUT*... MK needs every advantage she can get as her competition gets tougher and tougher. As we discussed elsewhere, we all know they'll be comparing her spirals, spins, and falling leaf jumps to Sarah's and the rest's from now until 2002. Sarah already has long thin limbs to begin with, and I think it might make MK's line look *a lot* better if she lengthens what she already has. I love her, but let's face it, she's a petite girl with cute little legs. Her legs make up a small portion of her overall height. And in a dress like the one for the Red Violin, the cut of the skirt makes her legs look even shorter. I noticed that when Tara wore boot covers for her "Genie" program, her legs look *SHOCKINGLY* longer and more shapely and just more aesthetically pleasing. Tan skates make a difference for people like Nicole and Maria, but they already have long legs and I thought it made a much BIGGER difference for Tara - someone who, like MK, has shorter legs. So, I think that MK should consider wearing boot covers for, at least, some programs. She (and some of you:>) might be resistant to the idea at first, but I think it should be considered. I'd be very interested in seing how much it would improve her look. Not that it'll make or break her career, but it's something I've been thinking about lately. Any thoughts:)?

No. The color of MK's boots is not going to determine whether she wins or not. They could be blue, yellow, or purple. It doesn't matter.

NO!!!! I hate those tan things. I think I also think it seems that the beige skates are for women skaters who have bigger feet and they may wear those skate coverings on them sometimes. Michelle has smaller feet. I think that how it is.

I kinda understand your point...but I think MK should stick to white boots... ...but then hey...if MK had boot covers...may be then Frank wouldn't have had to look for boot polish!!!...Hee hee :-)

I think her legs are lovely (and long) as they are and I don't certainly believe that she needs to make them look longer! Besides, I always thought tan skates/boot covers were horrid because it seemed like the blades were sticking right out of the skater's feet! (JMO!)

Boot covers--bleah! I can't stand those things. They look like some kind of circulatory disorder that causes the skaters' feet to swell. I say stick to white skates. They look so classy. I'm ssooo glad she hasn't gone to the tan skate/boot cover look.

NO WAY!!! I personally can't stand tan skates or boot covers. Michelle doesn't need them. Her lines and extensions look beautiful with white skates.

I'll second what just about everyone else is saying and say NO WAY! I don't like either of them and I have always thought Michelle's body was perfectly proportioned. No need to change anything IMO. Suzanne

I've always liked the clean white boots regardless of which program and which color costume she is wearing just for aesthetic reasons. But I think the white boots are also good precisely because to a certain extent they draw attention to her feet, her edging and her footwork. IMO it just makes it that little bit more dramatic when she does kicks into the air, her spiral, her Y spin, her new and improved layback, whatever, and you can more easily see her turned out/pointed/good foot position.

Ok, I'm going to have to disagree with EVERYONE :) I HATE Tan colored boots.... but LOVE over the boot tights. They DO make the legs look longer and give a more graceful image. I don't think it's as important in freestyle, but in dance it is very important to give off the image of long, powerfull freelegs. It gives the illusion of increased extension in the legs. When I competed, I skated my first year without over-the-boot-tights, but realized that unless I was 5-11', I would have to make my legs look longer. After that, I never went a competition without them. On the other hand, I believe that MK will be gracefull and classy even if she wears a paper bag... :)

Ick! No way. Keep away from boot covers. I hate those damned things. Whenever I see the skaters wearing them I can't help but cringe. To my eye it just looks like a stocking pulled on top of a boot. I think they're hideous. I don't care what inadequacies of the skater they help to conceal. Maybe they wouldn't be so bad if someone could make them look less lumpy or something. Invariably I can't concentrate on what the skater is trying to convey because I find myself staring at the boot covering and wondering what the heck possessed that person to put her stockings on over her boots.

I see you all just LOVED my suggestion, hehe:). Well, at least I got replies, I guess! (Thanks for the sympathy Karin, Artec, Kwan Luva, and Beth!) Just to reiterate, I do not normally prefer tan skates or boot covers...I love white skates, but I still think tan would improve her line. That doesn't mean she has a bad line now, but there's no way we can say she has long legs - compared to who? Our girl is 5'2" or 5'3" to begin with, and she's not leggy for her size like Katia, for example, is...so say you hate tan skates, but not that she already has long legs. (I don't have very long legs, myself, so I'm not trying to pick on her or anything.) Well, thanks for answering:)!

I think tan skates look like rentals and I always call those boot covers po' folks tights because they look like somebody wore them so long the bottoms wore off. Maybe Michelle can wear blueberry color skates and then she'll win 2 Olympic gold medals like Pasha. ;oÞ
