How would MK have placed any higher in a short program she WON by putting in a triple flip????

taboo, I was thinking the same thing!! Although I agree with her, MK should put the triple flip in the short.

LOL! Hmmm...maybe if Michelle did the flip in the short they would abolish the old scoring system and hand her the gold right then and there instead of simply placing her FIRST for the short!!!! Roz...as Chandler said, "You've got to stop the q-tip when there is resistance!"

I was thinking the very same thing. But i think that Michelle should keep the triple toe in the short, because i don't really think that she should take the risk of a harder jump when if she skates clean with the 3toe she will more than likley be in the top 3 after the short.

I mean, commentary is one thing, but rewriting historical fact is another. And as for why Michelle hasn't put in the 3 flip yet...she has won every short program she didn't make a mistake in for I don't know how many years in a row without the 3 flip. When there is enough incentive to put it in, she will. But when she wins the short program at *every* competition (when she's clean), what's the point? When was the last time Michelle didn't win the short program if she skated clean? 1994?

My parents were looking at me with worried expressions as I ranted an raved at the TV. My Mother just kept saying "Yes" & "Yes dear" I guess to get me to calm down ;-Þ Like Taboo said how can MK do HIGHER than FIRST PLACE YOU FOOL <Shallah has been in a BAAAAAAAD mood and this is the last straw> AAAAAAAAARGHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!! MUCH GNASHING OF TEETH

I was also saying, hey, Michelle won the short program! My parents were just like "ok" and then I continued to say how Michelle doesn't need the jumps until she is competing against someone like Irinia who can match her almost artistically (with a different style) and is better in the technical aspect.

I yelled at the TV...get the facts straight....Opinions are one thing....

I was thinking the same thing as everyone else! I was like, MK WON the short program so how can she place higher?? Did you notice that Roz mentioned the jump thing like a million times or something? She just won't let it go will she? I also yelled at the TV!

is roz going to bring the triple toe up. Get over it. As long as she skates clean she will at least be in the top 3. She will do it when she does it. Just win the long. Liz D-Where did you get that picture? I love it. That is michelle right?

Uh-huh - I was yelling at Roz, the TV, and my husband about that one! I guess the new theory is that MK got silver in Nagano because she had the 3toe in the short program. SJB is absolutely right - it has not yet hurt her to opt for the 3toe in the short program, ever.

OK, you skating historians, when WAS the last time that Michelle didn't win a short program if she skated clean? Just curious as to how many competitions in a row where she's won the short program (if she had no mistakes or falls--don't count Worlds 97 or 99). I'll bet it's a long, long run! I'm not against her putting in the 3 flip, she'll probably need to at some point, maybe against Irina. But Roz is WAY out of line suggesting that MK could have done better in ANY past short programs, because, within my memory, she has won EVERY one of them if she skated clean. Please, if anyone has some hard facts on this, I'd really like to know them.

I feel that all 'critics' are saying Michelle needs to 'up' her triple into a triple flip, etc.. but the one thing that i don't understand is.. if Michelle continues to skate cleanly, how will that hurt her? I remember watching the men skate... and I think Honda placed AFTER Yagudin, even though Honda has a quad... The reasoning was that Yagudin did a triple-triple and Honda did a triple-double... so if the quad jump(harder jump) won't place him ahead... why are people so adamant on saying that if Michelle does a flip, it'll be better, etc.. etc... ??? She skated a clean short at '95 worlds (I don't remember what solo jump she used) and ended up in fifth. That's the last time I remember her not winning the short with a clean program. I can't remember what happened at the '96-'97 season Champions Series final where she lost to Tara, but I'm thinking she lost that in the long. Anyone?

Lavender, I got the picture from: <A HREF=http://download.cnet.com/downloads/0-10077-100-876179.html?tag=st.dl.10077_103_1.lst.titledetail >http://download.cnet.com/downloads/0-10077-100-876179.html?tag=st.dl.10077_103_1.lst.titledetail </A> It is Michelle. It's a screen shot of the MULAN special in the beginning when they introduce her. AYS, when MK lost to Tara in 97's Champion Series Final, she fell in the short program and placed 3rd. Then she was 2nd in the LP and place 2nd overall.

I don't know why she said that! I can't remember her not winning a clean short since 1996. I wonder if she realized what she said afterword?

AYS, now that you mention it, MK did skate a clean short program there, and she didn't place first, and the solo triple that she did was....the 3 flip!! LOL. Maybe someone should alert Roz?....I don't think it would help, I just heard Roz say that this was the first time Michelle's ever used another choreographer....how about "Kissing You", Roz? Can't remember it from the Master's? So right now it's 1995 Worlds and counting...anyone got a clean SP skated by Michelle that she didn't win *after* that?

Brian

At the 97 Ultimate Four MK skated cleanly, but finished second to Kristi Yamaguchi who did the same jumps as MK.

Michelle knows what she needs to do. If she needed a 3flip in the short, she would put it in. She did use it at the 98' Nationals because of her toe. It was awesome. Michelle is a smart girl. I wish the commentators would get off her back. "Roz" hasn't done a triple of any kind in 15 years or so. Leave Michelle alone!!!

SJB

so now we have the 95 Worlds and the 97 Ultimate Four...any other instances? Because I'd say that that's an awfully good winning record, 3 flip or not....

Actually, there is a much a higher correlation between putting in the flip and not winning with a clean short. She's one out of two since '95 Worlds (lost in '95, won at '98 Nationals), and only one out of umpteen with the toe (lost to Kristi in '96, won every other since). So she should keep the toe, LOL. Especially since she doesn't usually compete against Kristi. LOL.
