I am making myself a wish list of music right now cuz my Birthday is coming up & want to finally get some of the music Michelle has used that I don't have already :-) On my Wish List so far: Charles Gerhardt conducts the film music of Lee Holdridge for East of Eden Ben Hur/El Cid/King Of Kings for Salome's Dance These are things I want for sure. What do you who own it think of The Red Violin? I am also having trouble finding Lyra Angelica just now :-( Does anyone own Strauss part of Salome? Was it a worth while buy for you?

Shallah, I have the "Red Violin" soundtrack and I absolutely love it! I wish MK's program could be longer so she could use more sections of the music. My favorite track is #20 which is a Chaconne for violin and orchestra titled "The Red Violin". The music is so intense and passionate. I also have CD's with Lyra Angelica, Gulistan Bayaty Shiraz, "Dream of Desdemona", Dante's Prayer, and "Rach".

Definitely get EOE...CH conducts LH...the rest of the cd is good, too. I have already picked out music for other skaters from it. I don't have Salome, but have TRV...wonderful, Dante's Prayer, OMT, Pocahontas, peter Pan....EOE is my fav, but Allwyn's LA is great, too. I can't give you specific title, because I am subbing at night school...no one has come...and I don't have access to my cd's.I also have Rach...love him anyway....

I just FINALLY found Lyra here!!! I already have Dante's Prayer by Loreena McKennitt and love the whole album. I wish Ms. McKennitt was more prolific with her work tho! Am listening to the clips on The Red Violin now :-) That is when they 'net congestion' isn't too high and lets the music through that is! HAR!

I highly recommend the music from Taj Mahal, "Gulistan Bayaty Shiraz" by Fikret Amirov. My mother and sister went and bought the CD to red violin after seeing the movie. I plan to grab it next time I'm home.

And Jarrett thanks for the link but CDnow has better prices than Amazon and right now they have The Red Violin for $12.58 + S&H. Jayne & Jesse check out Jarrett's music pages - click on next season to get info on her programs each season. He has it all organized with album titles and everything :-) Here is his page for her 98-99 with info on Ariane :-) http://www.michellekwan.net/music9899.htm For info on Dream of Desdemona go to Heather-the-Boardmaster's MK programs page for the different pieces of music used. I think it was 3 different pieces melded together for her short that time..... Shallah impatient for the music and so is getting some for herself & not waiting for gift givers to get 'em for her!

East of Eden is wonderful music!! Although I don't have the soundtrack.... However, I do have The Red Violin, I think the soundtrack is absolutely amazing!! Actually I had the pleasure to meet both Joshua Bell (The violin soloist) and John Corigliano (the composer)!! I didn't meet them simoutaneously...but I have met them. John Corigliano went to my school and often comes back for premiers of his orchestral works. My violin teacher had the same teacher as Joshua Bell!! So I had the pleasure to meet him once...he's absolutely a humble sweet handsome guy. And the music he plays...absolutely sensitive incredible and magical...which matches Michelle perfectly!! Hey maybe he'd be a good choice for Michelle's future BF (just a thought)

I have the Lyra CD. It's great. I can picture MK skating to it! (I got it from Amazon) I have a Carmen CD and a Rach (only a small part that MK has skated too) With her early programs it looks like I would have to buy a few cd's to get all of her music, huh? Oh RV is a definite buy for me! Beautiful music!

I've got: The Red Violin, Lyra Angelica (excluding section from Satie's Gymnopedies), On My Own, Winter, Beginning of DOD, Kissing You, Hands, Dante's Prayer, Rach (Piano Concerto #3). Right now, I'm dying to get Gulistan Bayaty Shiraz, Rach's Piano Trio #2, and Jeff Beck's ADITL. Can't say I really like any ONE piece over the rest.

to switch, when I did my Christmas cd shopping everything was better priced at CDNow but for one cd - at for Christmas they had FREE shipping, making it an even better buy. I hope they do that again this year :-) Another nice thing about CDnow is that they will donate to a charity of your choice through I Give.com. I Give lets you add your fav charitiy if it isn't already listed also :-) Just wanted to let you all know about I Give - and if you shop at Amazon.com they will donate to a charity of your choice through The Greater Good.com :-)

I have EOE, Lyra Angelica, Gymnopedie - piano version, Rach #3, Dante'r prayer, Winter, Gliere's red poppy + Massenet - orchestra suites- these make up DOD, Gulistan Bayaty Shiraz, Carmen - opera version, Rondo Capricisoco, TRV soundtrack, the yellow river cantata - accidentally bought this instead of the Y.R. piano concerto, and will order the piano concerto cd soon. Jarrett or somebody please give me the reference for Romanza. Someone wrote about Joshua Bell, I was thinking the other day that Mk should meet Bell, and Corigliano. I watched Bell on tv once 60 minutes? He seems to be vey easy going kind of a person. LOL to someone's idea of him being MK's future bf. I think it would be nice if they are friends, Mk seems to be so serious all the time. He has a very nice recording of Barber's violin concerto that I like, of course he recorded the Korngold v. concerto also. Which piece I like the most- hard to say, I love Rach #3 before Mk skated to it. Someone said they have a hard time finding Ariane. Ariane is made up of at least 3 different pieces of music. A small piece about 30 seconds of it is from one of Massenet's orchestral suite. The tango part is from ?? - Brian has the answer right? And the rest is from a cd that is not sold in the U.S.A. Now are we impressed with Lori or what.

skatingfan, the tango part from "Ariane" is from a CD called "Gidon Kremer: Le Cinema". The name of the peice is "Absalom's Death And Tango-Sketches To The Film Sunset" by Leonid Desyatnikov. If anyone is interested in buying the CD, it is available at CDnow. I would provide the link, but the url is very long and I don't want to mess up the formatting of this thread.

I do not order cds from the net. A few times a year i order cds and drive 25 miles to my most favorite music store. This next trip I will include the Gidon Kremer. BTW, totally off topic the amazon.com guy mentioned on tv that he goes to good old regular book stores to buy books. Someone please help with the Romanza recording reference?

According to Heather-our-BoardMaster's page here this program consists of Romanza - concertino for guitar and orchestra in A minor by S. Bacarisse & Fiesta Flamenca by Monty Kelly

Do you have Erik Satie's Gymnopedie - orchestra + piano version? I found so many Gymnopedie versions and I really want to find the same music which michelle used in Lyra.
