It's a sad day around here.
I had to have my 90lb. German Shepard put down a little while ago.
Something in his head snapped and he went into violent convulsions. Afterwards, he didn't know anyone-or where he was. He kept pacing like a wild animal at the vet's office.
Smokey was a good ol' boy. He made it 13 years-which I hear is good for a big dog.
He had a big heart. He loved to "talk" to you as you encouraged him.
God, I'm gonna' miss him.
I gotta' go. :cry :cry :cry :sad

When my cat died about a year and a half ago, someone here gave me the link to www.petloss.com. It's a great place and you may find some comfort there.

It's so hard to lose a pet. My dad, who was just diagnosed with lung cancer, lost his kitty last week. She was only ten years old, and was a beautiful, sweet little princess. I miss her so much. My dad is heartbroken. I promised to take him to find a new kitty but she's going to be a tough act to follow.
My heart goes out to you, mr pru.

I am so sorry. I have lost 2 family dogs so far, plus my grandmother just put her 15 year old dog down a few weeks ago. It is really hard but you will get though it. I am being totally honest when I say getting a new puppy helps. It will never replace your old friend, but you do love them just as much. :hug

No words, no words will suffice when your heart is breaking. I only know that one day, those eyes and that wet nose will great you again on the other side of the Rainbow Bridge. I believe they beat even the human souls on the other side to greet us. Their love is so pure and great. Much love to you and your family.

Mr. Pru I send my deepest sympathy to you. Nothing can make up for the loss of a pet but time. When I lost my last dog 3 years ago I just thought of all the good times we had together and what a great life she had. I still think of her every day and think of her spunky spirit. My heart goes out to you.

mr pru,
I'm so sorry! It's so difficult to lose a pet - my pets were always like family. I've lost 3 dogs and had another stolen...I'm thinking of you! I know what you're going through.

I'm so sorry for your loss. I know you will always miss him. When my daughter was only a year old, we got her a cat. Ramba moved with us about 5 or 6 times, and was like my fourth child. She died suddenly when my daughter was 16, about 4 years ago. My daughter keeps her ashes in a pretty container with a picture of the two of them on the outside. I didn't think she would want another cat for a while, but about 2-3 months later, she wanted another cat, which she still has. He isn't the same cat at all as Ramba, but she loves him as much, but differently. So, maybe after your heart has healed somewhat, think about getting another dog. It may help you heal even more. :hug

I'm very sorry to hear that Mr Pru :hug I've been there, and know that its a really hard decision. I'm glad he had lived a long life though, and I'm sure he knew that you loved him very much. May he rest in peace. :angel

I'm so sorry for your loss. I lost two yorkies in the past three years - one was 14 and the other made it to 16. The following words were of comfort to me and I hope will be to you as well.
"He will not go quietly,
the friend who shared your life.
In subtle ways he'll let you know his spirit still survives.
Old habits still can make you think you hear him at the door
or step back when you drop a tasty morsel on the floor.
Your feet still go around the place the food dish used to be,
and, sometimes coming home at night, you miss him terribly.
And although time may bring new friends and a new food dish to fill,
that one place in your heart belongs to Smokey...
and always will."

I'm sorry to hear that. We had our dog for 14 years and then had to put him down. I still miss him when I go home for the holidays, but it does get easier in time.

I'm so sorry, mr. pru:( I had to put my beloved sheltie down on March 2, and I haven't even been able to tell people here. For the first time in 29 years, I don't have a sheltie.
Serious hugs, and much sympathy, mr. pru. The only way I know how to cope when losing a beloved pet is to keep yourself very busy. Time helps but does not completely take away the void.

I am so sorry Mr Pru. My pets are my furkids and when they die it feels like part of my heart goes with them.
If there are not dogs in Heaven
instead let me go where they are

Mr. Pru,
Though I never had a pet---it’s always nice to know that you can have a good ol’ buddy like your boy Smokey and hopefully, when you look back, those will carry good memories for you and your family along the way. Keep your head up and much sympathies to you Mr. Pru. :hug

Mr Pru - I am so sorry to hear about your dog! One of the hardest things I ever had to do was to have my dog put down in 1991. It's like losing a child. I know that no words can comfort you at this time, so I'm sending lots of hugs, and I'm crying with you. :hug :hug :hug :bawl

I want to send a truly heartfelt "Thank You (BIG TIME!!) to each and everyone of you guys.
I knew I could count on the wonderful members of this fine forum to help me through the initial shock of this great loss.
I've buried enough pets in my time. I'm done with it. I love all animals, but I just can't deal with their death.
My male cat Spock made to almost 19. My female, Kitty Kitty-made it to almost 16.
There have been others, but it hasn't gotten any easier as I've gotten older.
My son has a cat (Cash) who is just a little over a year old. After he's gone there'll be no more animals.
Prudence has a Shih-Tzu (sp?) Shyla-who is without a doubt the most spoiled rotten animal on the face of the earth. I could go on all night about the things she does for that dog. Neither one of them realize that she's a dog, for God's sake!!
Again-thanks to everyone. You all helped me out.
I owe each and everyone of you.

I'm very sorry for your loss, Tim. You gave Smokey a good home and I'm sure he loves you as much as you love him. Your heart will never lose anyone who you loved. Take care.

I'm so sorry to hear about your loss. I lost both of my Rotties within six months of each other last year and it definitely took a toll. Our pets are part of our families and it hurts to lose them. Do a search for "Rainbow Bridge". It's really something else and hopefully comfort you. It got me through my grief. Hugs to you and your family. :hug

My deepest sympathies to you mr pru.
A few years back I watched helplessly as 2 dogs attacked my cat. And about a year ago my father lost his dog (Negro) too. They’re all in a better place now.
